yeah i did and it got me into thinking about a product that could be used on various styles of boards....
the 'flux risers' and 'flash rollers' that are out there at the moment work really well by the looks of things

hey has anyone seen or even thought of hooking up some lights to their luge.
not so much for lighting up the road ahead but getting some great effects at night etc.

Stuart, if you are going to run one of those boards, buy yourself a good sized cup. Those croch pads would kill you if you came off your board. Have you had kids yet? If not, I'd recommend getting another type of board, unless you don't want to have kids. In that case, ride it all you want!

I think a guy name Scootball runs a luge like that. Ask him on streetluge.net though because I think he checks there more often.

Rodger Hickey takes alot of undue credit for "Starting Streetluge. That's a bunch of crap!Just ask people Like Sam Puccio for one. Hickey was just a snot nosed kid when it all started back in the Early 70's.Yeah he was there later on... But as soon as there was some real competition he faded away.Where was he for the X games? By then he knew he couldn't keep up. He never raced in the next generation of faster real Streetluge races.I was there through it all. He wasn't!

so there was in article of the north county times in sandiego about the guy who made the skatebrake who is now going to be selling this little what looks like a modified butt board with metal handles at a sporting goods store called big 5 i think theres several in south cal . I think its a great way to introduce the sport to people and make it excesible . however i do have my reservations 1 being on the front page of the paper they show two 8 year olds on the boards , i remmember ridin down hills on my long boards but now older and wiser i cant say that it was safe . i can see that it can cause problems such as more accidents and a bad rap when little 8 year olds with no prior experience or profesional training and supervision start running stop signs , riding busy roads and getting wobbles at speeds they may not be able to handle , even if there is a brake. my other problem is that the boards are going to be made by veriflex ( the kind of boards u find at walmart or target) , personally i feel this to is a dangerouse choice for building the boards . my oveall oppinion is it a great idea with to many bumps.

Hickey was still racing and winning the races when the X-Games started and all of the other races all the way up to 1997, but due to some slander from Perreya to ESPN kept him banned for all of them. He would have raced, but eventually quit due to all of the bull. Sean Mallard, Darren Lott, Dave Perry, Beau Brown, Perry Fisser, Pamela Z, and many more names all got their starts by Hickey trainning them. So did I and my band of buddies back in the 70's. I talked to him about a year ago and he told me to not talk about luge, it was a shame, but he is totally burnt out with all of the slander. Such a nice country we live in. Oh well, those who are his friends know him, and if he ever reads this I would like to thank him for my ten minutes of fame. Jim

Main thing is we are all here, and able to come to La Costa once again. Long live skateboarding, Who's the first to go 100 mph, ON A SKATEBOARD(4 wheels) Bring a picture to La Costa...Ha Ha.....

JL,you're SO very right about Roger Hickey being The innovative force in streetluge from WAY back! I met him once, rode with him (on one of his Madrid woodies),and was hooked for life. I had built my own 'lay down' board outa solid hardwood, but after seeing what R.H. was running, went back to the woodshop and dug out cabinetmakers ply,and started all over again. That was,um,awhile ago,but I'm proud of the two speeding tickets I got even before I had a driver's license, all thanks to that wooden laydown board. Hickey made some of the raddest sleds ever, and I was saddened to see that by the time the X-games decided streetluge was 'worthy',that he didn't run in those events. Of course,I don't think short paddle-sprints really were what Hickey would've wanted to participate in.On the bright side, many of those he had inspired picked up where he had left off,at least in Racing for T.V.Land. Who else would've taken the luge concept up to Eagle standards,or Gravity Cars, for that matter? Hell, not many standup riders would've come up with aero-spats on the calves for racing in the Pyrenees Mountains, but Hickey did(taped his laces, too). Those who ride fast on a Skateboard,or Sled, owe a Nod of appreciation to Roger Hickey. Our sport[s] wouldn't be the same without his influence.

Tired of the same old hills every time you wanna go for a ride? Are the 2,3,4.....12, and even 13 mile runs just not cuttin it for ya? Do you want a technical run that you can get some bitchin speed on toward the bottom? Maybe even a full weekend of riding? Well you are cordially invited for a weekend of downhilling in Mt. Shasta California! We want all the people we can get for our fun run in the beginning of August. Nathan Winchell and I are doing our best to put this thing together and Im trying to get the word out ahead of time so people can get the heads up. Paul Busse I dont know if Nathan talked to you yet but I know you wanna come back to these 2 roads and go for a ride. So let me know wats goin on. Anyways there are 2 runs within 5 miles of eachother. 8 and 14 miles long with top speeds 70+mph. Both these roads are amazing. Everitt Memorial Hwy: 14 miles long! This run starts above the timberline at the base of Mt. Shasta. Heading down the road there are countless turns to negotiate including 3 hairpins. at the bottom things straiten out and allow speeds over 70mph Castle lake road: 8 miles long. The only traffic are fisherman and an occasional vacationing family. 15mph turns and very steep grade. Im planning on spending the night in the small campground on top of Everitt Memorial Hwy and making some night runs. Anybody interested or with questions please e-mail me. We are hoping for a great time so dont pass this one by. See the link on the bottom for some aerial photos of the roads. I will keep posting this once in a while incase anyone misses it.

Ok, truth of the matter is that I am a longboarder not a street luger. However in my hunt for skateboard wheels that will work in the wet west coast winter weather I came across some Xtreme Slick 99mm wheels that are advertised as street luge wheels. Anyone tried these? Would they work in the rain? Any downsides? I imagine they would grip well but, on the other hand, would not slide worth anything if one had to do a unexpected safety slide to a scrub speed or stop. Comments, suggestions?

I find it amazing that after all of this time the man that supposidly started it all dissapeared after Signal hill. I started riding at GMR in 1777 and Roger Hickey was the one inventing everything and dumping his own money into having the road blocked and having races for us. Sam might have been the first to race laying down, but StreetLuge, meaning going through corners at 65+ was invented by the master, Roger Hickey. Every interview I have ever seen of Roger on TV he has always given Sam credit for giving him the idea by laying down on a long wooden Skateboard. It is a shame that you guys don't do the same for him. Jim
