Yeah, Gumballs are the schnitzel for high-speed cruisin'. I actually considered mentioning soft Grippens specifically as a 70mm alternative, as they've got insane rebound and are super-smooth as cruisers, too. But then again, Mr. Chaput hasn't put out any BAD wheels by design. That's something to think about. Nothing he's put out has been borrowed heavily from 'conventional' wheel design (of the last decade -- Those of us who're older know C.C. has blended some great Older concepts into 'new' wheels for us to enjoy), put rather Mr. Chaput has invited ideas from skaters everywhere, taken what's proven to work, and then pushed on the urethane makers to come up with some outstanding wheels. It's a process I can see evolving before my eyes, and I'm grateful to see it happen, because when Krypto ruled, it was either use their borrowed rollerskate stuff aquired from Hyper, or suffer with 25-year-old designs that no longer had the 'good' formulas from the 70's. Thanks to Abec 11, we're on a much better level of performance now. This, btw, is not a slam on other wheel makers (certainly not Seismic/3DM, Manx, Exate, Power Paws, or Payaso) who've put out great new products as well. But for a scary few years there, I was really concerned that my skating was going to be 'stuck', centered around whether I could find another not-so-worn set of Mundos to ride on. Now, we've got choices, and good, healthy competition between brands. Moreover, we've got stuff that Rocks!!
If only the 'Thrasher' crowd had a clue...

go to milehighskates.com they have every thing. kryptos are a ok choice cause there cheap but are good quality. but if you want somethin to grip real good go with the gumballs for sure. and as for risers? what kind of trucks do you have? how tall are they? and how loose? i suggest sector 9 angled risers, well any brand angled risers i think there 1/2 inch and narrow down to 1/4? is that right anyone? anyone? well... if its just a commuter board go with the kryptos, if you want to do some fast carving gumballs

That 1 Guy, consider these things for that 'plush' ride...
You want a big wheel, 70mm or bigger.
You want it Soft (under 85A durometer) with a high-rebound urethane. You want a fairly small core, but definately have a core to keep the bearings aligned in true. This puts ABEC 11 Flywheels, most Kryptonics 'large' wheels, Gravity's, and maybe even Seismic Speed Vents onto the "maybe" list due to their largecores.
This criteria leaves you with a few choices from Sector Nine, Seismic, and ABEC 11, Landyatchz, and Manx, maybe a few others.
My picks would be either the ABEC 11 Gumball (PINK! for more speed) in 78A, or Seismic's Avila in under 82A (74A if you want maximum plushness), but both these wheels are FAST, Sticky, heavy, and will need risers on any conventional non-cutaway/drop-thru deck. I've run both, and with these, even Vermont 'frost heave' cracks are overcome, and small rodenti need to be aware they're potential roadkill if they don't scurry away in time. The downside is in braking in urban environs, and the weight in carrying on public transportation vehichles (although, if using Gilmourian tactics, one merely 'catches the bus' by hanging onto the back bumper, thus wheelweight is a moot point).
You might take a hard look at the 68mm to 72mm class of wheels but use the softest durometers to keep the ride smooth enough. Grippens,Flashbacks,HotSpots,Avalons and Satoris would be on that list.

RIpPeR, nice to meet you in Austin last weekend. I liked those black leathers you were sporting. I like mine, but they're kind of gaudy. Anyway, the wheels you saw on Chaput's board were MoMos, which as you said aren't being sold yet. As for the widest ones that ARE available, I'd agree with Michael: Avilas.

the 66 retros are definitely a good wheel. i have them and the would fit perfect on that 38" deck, and good choice on the randals. but the coolest thing about my 66 retros is that i they were personally given to me by chris chaput at a slaolm comp

Gumballs and Avilas are pretty much th widest, with the Avila being approx 1/4" wider, but with a longer 'lip'.
In my experiance the width issue doesnt make a wheel slower, in fact in the UK racers use the Avilla for high grip courses and some lugers have used the Gumball for wins.
Best wide wheel.... I really like the Pink Gumball.

I'm curious...what are the WIDEST wheels available on the market today, slalom, longboard, or otherwise??? I was admiring some slalom wheels that Chaput had on one of his boards yesterday but those monsters are not available to the public as of yet. Any help, anyone...
P.S. sorry about the stupid video linked on here...not my doing.

i just got a 38inch sector9 deck w/ some randall 2 150s but idk what size or type of wheel to get. i was thinkin like some red RETRO zig zags (either 66mm or 70mm). Im gonna use this board for crusing and carving and ill be carryin it round school. Should i get the 70mm or will they be too big for the board?

Hi, I own a K2 Evolution Four and am in need of replacement wheels. Does anyone know where I can get a set of them? I don't think they have been sold for about 5-7 years. I believe they are 103mm (or 104mm) 78 or 80a.
