Hey Joe,
Perhaps an unfair question and I do intend to purchase Alligators however. Do you think they compare in any way to say Hot Spots?

I have some similar, they are very heavy, had them set up on the superwide Originals on the kicks of a popsickle, rides on grass slopes like a snowboard, alot of fun, but never riden on roads??
something different to have, just remember the clearence for wheel rub if your using narrow trucks, you really need those tall risers!

Steadfast Off-Road Wheels

Has anyone tried Steadfast Off-Road Wheels? They look like truck tires made out of urethane and come in 64mm and 113mm sizes. I'm thinking about taking a long-board on dirt trails or riding slow on asphalt light rain days.
I saw them on the purple skunk site... http://www.purpleskunk.com/product_p/sds-offroadwheels.htm

expensive enough

" they ride well" that's sort of an understatement, i'm a pretty big fan of abecs and there's are other possibilitys, but i've had problems with speed vents. Sure they could mold them a little bigger and trim them clean, what it probabely comes down to is that this extra process would cost money, passed on to the consumer,i own a shop and so wheels cost me less than most consumers and i think they're already expensive enough. I stock abecs, and they cost more than krypto's(you might wanna try them if you care that much about bubbles) some times i feel like i stock them for personal use,i only buy models sizes and durometer that i'm interested in, if the price of abecs went up even more i'd have to pass it along,i already take a lower mark up than cheaper wheels. I have had NO, none, zero, real problems with abecs once i got used to the colors there are no complaints, and i personally take them up around 50 mph on a semi regular basis, i do kind of wish they were prettier, sometimes.

ABEC11- NOT inmpressed

I finally got two sets of ABEC11 wheels. Gumballs in76mm/81a and Grippins 70mm/81a. Both sets have more big bubbles and pitting than even the unbranded wheels I have, and I have been through a lot of wheels in my day going back to my Makaha 4s. I contacted them and was just told that that's just how urethane dose and if the biggest bubble is so big that it causes chunking then they will replace it. THEN? They ride well but to me quality control is not what these prices should get you. I would expect a company like this to spin and trim the tops of there molds to prevent this. To me I have to say they do not seem like the best wheel out there, and the customer service was not what I expected either.

Peter, I'd go with either the Grippens or the Avilas. BTW, I live in Vermont, so, I'm in tune with "cold" and 'skating'. By this time of the year, I've parked every decently round and over 80A wheel I own, taken my sheilded bearings out, replaced with ABEC 5 or less Sealed bearings, and use a Snowboard helmet (with goggles for full-moon nite Luge runs!). I'm NOT hardcore enough to ride after the second salting; I've learned that's when things Get Ugly (try no Braking or Grip, on a Luge, November fullmoon, and damn Skunks in the road.. Nope, not that hardcore anymore). Watch too for Frost, and frozen puddles. After those ruin your day, it's time either find an Indoor skatepark, or go Snowboarding! ;-)

For cold weather, say 30F, what wheels would you suggest for carving longboard grip? 75A gumballs or grippins? 72a Avilas? Objective is decent grip and avoiding uncontrollabe slides.
PS: Yeah, I know carveboard or tierney rubber are really the best here.

Daniel, sk8trip is Chris Chaput's online site for ABEC 11, Pink, and Retro wheels. Contact them directly, or try to deal with your ebay vendor. Either way, it should be dealt with if that's your wish.
As for the bubble or hole, if you're going not ride very fast, it might be fine. It comes down to whether it'll become a 'bigger' problem later.
Nonetheless, it probably shouldn't have got past quality control. With molds on big wheels, bubbles can occur, as that's a Lot of Goo to pour into the mold. It's not common to see on most high-end wheels (though I can recall seeing stuff like that regularly on Sector9 wheels a few years back), as those wheel makers know that the end-user is likely to go Fast.

ABEC 11 Gumballs w/ hole!?!?!

Hello, I just got a set of ABEC 11 gumballs (72mm - 81a) and on my first trip to the park I have found a hole / bubble a bit larger than a BB. It is just under the tread of the wheel 1/4 inch from the outside edge of the wheel. This is my first set of nice wheels. I love them and they really seem better than the others I have tried, but even on my cheapest wheels I have only seen a bubble this big on the very inside edge of a wheel (what would be the unlathed top as it was poured. Has anyone seen this on an ABEC 11?....and dose it even matter? I am 40 and will most likely never get over 20 MPH.

you have the board and it sounds like you have the 97mm wheels, try both, which seems like it pushes quicker. I have a board with 70mm gripins on it that seems like the quickest most comfortable board for pushing around.I'm not even sure about the bearings, they have black sheilds and spray out a bit of oil onto the wheels,so i think i relubed them, i think i remember recycling a set of swiss bones, a kid just left them at my shop after mom bought him a fresh set.

are you planning on using this to skate around the city for the broadway bomb or whatever? I'd think for that type of thing 97's would be better for going up onto sidewalks and over manhole caps. I'm not sure if their a pain to push from their size though. you probably wouldn't have any frets with 76mm wheel though.

the 97mm wheels are on s low rider board so its actually pritty low it has about 1 1/2 ince of space inbetween the bottom of the board and the road so with that said now what do u think would be better cause if i put 76mm wheels on theres harldy any clearance
