I agree! It is a great project and very doable. The next event is South Beach Miami om 11/01/03! just enough time. There are a bunch of talented freestylers in the area that could be involved. The idea of a sideways launch is great science if you ccan get the object to flip quickly enough it will give it extended hand time. The SF event is on 10/25, the same day as our big Rengstroff Jam and only 35 miles away. I can make the opening event at 9:00am and still get to the jam by noon.
I will start planning for the 2004 LA and SF events. My best friend George runs the expermental projects lab at Cal Poly SLO and is the founder of the Human Powered Vehicle Association (the model for the WFSA). Eric Matlin, a No Cal Jam series regular is a student there so I'm sure we can hook up to the facility to build something wild and crazy. I say go for the South beach event!!!!!

Thats actually not a bad idea Bob, before they launch the flying machines each team has to do a skit (if you will) that relates to the craft. The whole thing is shown on JumboTrons for thousands of onlookers, the skit could be a demo and the craft could be a huge skateboard, if lauched side ways could create a wing to soar on. Not bad Bob, I like it!

Has anyone else seen Flutag? Flutag means "Flying Day" of homemade flying machines into a large mass of unsuspecting water, and it just happened yesterday in New York Cities Hudson River Park. People from all over the world came to see and partisipate in this annual event of crazy fun! Basically you build your machine and then push it off of a 20-30 ft pier and see if you can fly (all end up in the water) it is extremely entertaining. So what does it have to do with skateboarding and especially FREESTYLE?!? Well I am a Local Hero Athlete for Red Bull on the East Coast and was invited to come on up and basically have a good time and thats what I did. The event went all day and some people needed a different form of entertainment, so I became the side show, with estimates of 40,000 people in the park to see Flutag I couldn't resist. The VIP Area is where I stayted the most due to the fact that secrurity was tight everywhere else however I did get some lines all around the park and the VIP area was surrounded by spectators due to its prime location at the event (it was where the crafts launched from) Later I skated in and around Times Square and got some footage and a couple of pictures for Bodega Skateboards(board sponsor) and then crashed at the W hotel in Times Square which I would highly recommend to anyone visiting that area! Stay tuned for events next year out here in the East, since doing the demos at this event a few possiblities have come up that could potentially be real positive, fun and major sponsored, Stay tuned. Get out there, skate, have fun. The rest is just icing and I have a sweet tooth do you? The Philly Connection Represents for the future of Freestyle!

Mike: I ran out of space on the ad, it is supposed to say "Noon 'til the chips and salsa run out". So far , all the Edison Park Jams have gone on past 6:00 pm. I usually have to leave around 4:00 pm because I get a ride there with my daughter and she has to get back to her family. This will be the last day of daylight savings time. I'm sure some of us will hang in there until you arrive and skate with you for awhile.

i have a question about the edison park jam. it says on the ad that its from noon to five. what sucks for me is that i cant get off work until three thirty in the city of industry. that means i couldnt get to edison until around four fifteen or four thirty. its a long drive if it ends at five. do you think there will still be people skating after five or do you think the park will be devoid of skaters by the time i could get there? i have never been to one of these freestyle jams but it sounds like a lot of fun. i have been freestyling for many years but i have not actually run into any freestylers out on the streets in at least twelve years. it would be really cool to session with some real freestylers & hopefully learn a new trick or two. if anybody involved in this jam could respond to this post it would be greatly appreciated. thanks alot

I was fortunate to see Gunter skate back in '86 in Oceanside, CA. Actually I got to skate against him, I took 6th and know he did better. He was one of the few AMs that sticks out in my memory of that contest. He was amazing back then, so I'm sure once he polishes off the rusty spots (so to speak) he'll be heads over everyone else. So I'm not surprised he won the Casper Pro this year.

My youngest son Robert is 34 years old today.
Robert won the 1977 Oceanside Freestyle Skateboard Championship at the age of 8. Today he lives in Corralitos California and accompanies me as the photographer to all the Northern California Jams. He has taken over 2000 digital photos of the 4 jams we have done so far. He is always sure to get pictures of everyone at the jam. He makes copies of the photos onto CD and we send some of the CD's to interested skaters that were at the jam.
He also videoed the San Francisco 2000 freestyle world championship, that footage he made into a video called "This Way Out". Robert is an electronics whiz and is developing a TV system so we can present the jams live on the WFSA web site. We plan to have "This Way Out" and other items, like a 12 month calendar developed from Roberts photos, on the "now being remodeled" WFSA website. The new donain address is www.wfsafreestyle.org. Please check it out and join the WFSA if you have not already, or if you have changed your email address in the last year. Thanx
Next No Cal jam is Sat. Oct. 25th at Rengstorff Park in Mt. View CA Noon 'til the hot dogs run out... This will be on my 45th anni. of skateboarding.
Next So Cal jam is Sun Oct. 19th at Edison Park in Huntington Beach CA Noon 'til the chips and dips are gone. Hosted by the Carrasco Family

All:
I've been travelling, so I'm not sure how many of you may be aware of this. My apologies if this has already been posted...
Our friend and fellow freestyler, Mike Rogers, has encountered difficult times. Please read the letter by Jill Gresko at the following Web site.
http://www.mr1skateshop.net/M.R.%20Fund.htm
He's got around 240 stitches and staples from his surgery, not to mention what had to be removed during the process. You may e-mail him for more details at MRskateshop@aol.com.
For those of you who do not know Mike, Terry and I competed with him back in NSA during the early 90's. He also hosted the recent West Palm Beach freestyle contests. He's a friend in tough times and can use our help.
A benefit is being held for him at the West Palm Beach YMCA Skatepark on November 22, 2003. Please contact me if there's anyone who's willing donate product for raffle or participate in a freestyle demo.
Thank you.
P.S. Please add http://www.mr1skateshop.net/M.R.%20Fund.htm to your Web sites to help get the word out. I put a link to his information on the front page of mine (http://www.techundergroundskateboarding.com) already.
