G'day everyone. I guess we're pretty lucky here in Sydney. Just 200Kms down the road is what most racing drivers consider the best race track in the world "Mt Panorama" Bathurst. This track is built on a mountain it's basically a mountain pass thats steep, wide, smooth, has ripple strips and sand traps. Its also a public road when there are no races on. After spending the weekend there I reckon its the best road ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD to skate. Check out this video http://www.awayteam.info/images/Mt_Panorama_small.wmv tell us what you reckon.

Yeah you cant drop the piss, but there is a point where it can get dodgy,i findi can ride drunk no worries but when im hung over its a different story.I am lucky to be here, the other nite i was riding back from a friends house and nearly hit a car head on going 60kms,can remember looking into the headlights thinking hmmm this is madness how did i get into a situation like this.Even if i was wearing full downhill protection it wouldnt have done anything against an oncomming car.It was a bit of a wake up call that our sport is extremley dangerous and we a very delicate.Skate safe/take calculated risks and have fun. Cheers Kanufi

I feel responsible Kanufi, we shoulda been keeping an eye on his progress and reminding him of the basics like feet position. I realise he was acting like he owned the hill and we advised against riding with a beer and without the leather jacket. But we shoulda straight out stopped him. I was too focused on trying to go higher myself, as well as makin sure DR C was getting everything on video. We'll have to keep each other in check with newbies from now on.

hey kanufi in response to "We didnt take a novice to the top of a hill and say go from here" i was commenting on the kids i see at my hill, not your situation, you guys are padded up, that's the most safe/responsible thing you can do, watching your vid just reminded me that i wanted to post something on the topic...it almost looks like he would have kept the beer to the end, but it bounced out of his hands...anyways good times safe skateing

Ouch, watching that slam and the aftermath made me cringe. Damn, it's pretty clear why leathers come in handy when you're doing the downhill stuff.
I'll have to come up and ride with you guys one day, although after watching that slam I am gonna be taking it easy!
Kanufi, are you and Gus and the crew coming down to Allawah on Sunday for some more slalom action? You guys could do the slide clinic, that would be awesome!

The run he fell off on was one of the last runs of the day.We didnt take a novice to the top of a hill and say go from here.Benny started off where he felt comfortable and each run went higher and higher. The road is extremley rough in parts with ruts and bumps which throw luges off. These bumps tend to re-position the feet and things get sketchey.Slow the vid down and you can see he doesnt release the beer until the bottle is about to smash in his hand.A true champion. Cheers Kanufi.

i dug the fall, the wound on his abdomen looked just like this one that happened to a friend of mine. i live on a really nice learning hill, its about a quarter mile long and at a full pump speed going in,i have hit 33 on it nice and mellow. so, this girl was a sponsered surfer and thought she was pretty hot s#@! on a board but had never really skated, so she went down the hill on the back of her board just like your buddy and got the wobs and bailed out just about the same way it was all bad she was in jean shorts and a tanktop or something ridiculous like that, awfull road rash. but anyways we got to be responsible when we teach buddies to skate, i have seen it over and over again, people come out to teach thier friend to skate down hills and forget what it is like in the begining. they send them down this 20-25 mph hill before they know how to put thier feet on the board, let alone carve off some speed. i have seen 5 kids eat s#@! out here and heard of about 10 kids that have fallen, one ER trip. And those are significant full speed no pads, no helmet, one time no shirt falls. so really teach the basics of not falling to your friends 1. knees bent 2. feet at the front of the board 3. always stay on a rail to avoid the speed wobs never just go straight! safe skateing
