What a phone call I just had.
Want to be on TV Want to show off in front of 20,000 people.
27-28 July Eastbourne www.skate2002.co.uk GRS event
Massive event. They want to block of a hill with the police for a downhill speed event. Slalom on the front. How about a Euro open flatland slalom competition. JMA, FFF get over here for this.
They will block areas off for competition and training.
Something for everyone here.
Whos up for it? The promotion event of the year. Get you banners, flyers. They have had trouble locating longboarders to show their skills.

Shortboard freestyle or longboardy type freestyle? Rodney Mullen lives. It would be great to see freestyle of either sort at an event.

Tu as raison Fred, on comprend rien a ce qui se raconte. I would want information about Folly Beach, please. What type of slalom do you practise, I heard about downhill giant slalom, I'm really interesting, but is it possible to have an idea of the space between cone, the lengh and every details like that. If you want some european gye come to your event you must communicate with them and then we can call this world champion ship. You understand my problem. I win some giant slalom in France and now I want to meat other riders from the world. Thank for your comprehension and answers.

Pro World Championship
There will be only 48 slots available to compete for the World Pro Champion Title. The top Series racers will be seeded 1-16 based on their finish in the season points standings. These racers will also receive a first round Bye. In addition, There will be a 32-racer elimination round. 16 of these 32 spots will be available for those racers who finish 17-32 in the Series standings. 10 spots will be At-Large Bids selected by the organizers (TLP), at their sole discretion, and 6 spots will be available to the top 6 finishers in a qualifying race conducted on Friday of the race weekend. These racers will be seeded in a 2 run qualifying round and will race a dual elimination race. The 16 surviving racers will then face the 1-16 seeded racers in a normal 32 man dual elimination.
Amateur (Open) World Championship
In keeping with the desire to expand and promote the sport of skateboard racing, there will be 48 slots available for those who wish to compete for the amateur title. The only condition is that the racers cannot have declared themselves as Pro Racers in the season. The top 16 racers in the FCR Series open class will be seeded 1-16 in the Amateur World Championship. 32 additional racers will be seeded into the race brackets based on a two run qualifying round and will race a dual elimination race. The 16 surviving racers will then face the 1-16 seeded racers in a normal 32 man dual elimination.

We ll John, unfortunately I do think O be at La Costa to win. My current form is a few tenth behind Levene. I skated with Paul Price yesturday and was pleased to be a head of him most of the time. My strength is the push start we have which I will lose in the states. We tried to enter the course together and he would be a head in the wide cones but as it picks up speed I would creep up. As this will also be my first taste of a US competition the experience is more important for next year. However I don't come not to skate hard. catalina sounded like my thing.
Another longboarder for you, Pierre Sampas from Antibes in France. I skated with him and JMA in Feb. He rips. I was so impressed. If he goes to the event watchout guys.

Tim Oates routinely qualifies on semi tight courses on a very long board. I think he is a top contender for the longboard slalom at Folley Beach- along with brad edwards who regularly runs a long deck in the slalom.
I like prior announcement of the course setters- as it gives knowledgeable people an idea of what might be set. I remember in 1993 where Sweeny, Dematos, and Kulpi were the course setters so we got an ultra tight ultra offset course on flat- It would have probably changed people's training courses had people known in advance.
Clingfilm- in regards to getting points La Costa will be a heavily attended event- you would likely garner more points at Breckenridge or Jackson hole which will likely be less heavily attended. Of course- if you intend to win it wouldn't make any difference.

Scabs I'm not avoiding major competitions, but I can only afford one visit over and that will be La Costa, hopefully. This is an FCR event and I need some points as it will be the only FCR event I can attend. I have sympathy for the FCR guys, as an event organiser, that they can only run events in their area, which means, national and global qualification is very difficult. I have trouble trying to orgnise things only a few hundred miles away. Apart from FCR events, JG's event and Folly Beach seem to be the only other events of major consequence in the US. Where are the other organisers? I suspect (hope) that they are like ourselves organising events that will install a truely world series nest year, or at least a US vs Europe event. This year there is a need to focus on Euro events to promote the competitions over here. I feel Lee at Urban and Chris Lush have done an outstanding job, for their first ever attampt, of organising events in the UK at Brands, London and Sheffield. The guys in Switzerland seem to be equally impressive. I think that this year we need to set-up various locations and arrange a series of events equal to the FCR series. I hope that central and eastern US and Canada are also working towards this so that slalom is not a californian only activity. My hope is for at least three qualifying series next year, Europe, East coast and west coast. If more appear that would be great. Then the top skaters from each series can enter the finals. Is there any way that the rules for US football could be used to get to the finals. However the morte skaters the greater the need will be for more than 32 skaters. I am sure that the competition over here will be high.
John The ISSA rules are good in this matter. I have modified the UKSSA rules (qube2.lcp.linst.ac.uk/skate/)which use ISSA as a model to allow two or three people to set a course, rather than electing course setters on race day, you can prior announce them. This saves time at events and allows courses to be set-up before the race day, allowing more practice time, especially for the course setters who have a reduced allocation. There is no right or wrong here just good, transparent, course setting. I don't understand the Tim Oates statement.

I'd set a course if asked. I'm sure Clingfilm and Simon Levene would do a great job as well. 1990's ISSA rules state that courses should be set by 3 people chosen from a lottery draw of the countries present. That way no course favors one country.
If Tim Oates enters the World Championship longboard slalom event- I'm definitely coming to race in Switzerland.

Clingfilm, I can more than appreciate the need to quantify funds for events. But if you recall, FCR/TLP had stated that they would take other events into consideration towards awarding points to their series. That and the fact that the title "World Longboard Slalom Champion" is at stake, I think this should be an event with high priorities. A quick look at the attendees shows what others think of its importance. It disturbs me to think that racers have the impression that they can`t afford to attend "other" races because of financial conflict with them attending the FCR series. I know we don`t have a clear understanding of what "other" races the FCR would accept as point awarding worthy. Maybe that`s something we need to take up with Jack Smith.
Unless you just need an excuse to avoid any real competition...heh heh !!!

Just checked that easyjet.com fly to Zurich. A whole mix match of fares but between £70 - 100 plus tax. This is from Gatwick. the 6.00 am flight on Saturday and return at 19.00 seems best to me. Check it out and let me know your plans.
Jadranko I do not think the date clash is important as none of us planned to to the world championship due to the fact that we have to compete in the FCR series to qualify for the finals, so our funds are for limited visits only.

Hi all
We have known that the World Longboard Slalom Championship is on the same date as our Parallel Slalom Contest. Our PSC is an local event and we haven´t thought that so many interantional riders are interested in, thats why we set the Contest on the same date anyway. We couldn´t move it because we have already done a lot of ad.
Our Homepage will be availabe ín English from the 9th May. You can get information about the accomodation, flights etc. from the 9th May, too.
Don't take it amiss, that our English isn´t very good...
