Brad, that's some pretty bad news. Hope you can get things worked out for next year. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help out.
Anybody up for a session on Saturday morning? Sweat out Friday's drinkin'.

Thanks yet again for great response. I will happily borrow a board if I don't bring my own!
Thanks also for the invitation to Townsville! Will certainly be in touch if I pass through. Starting to look like a slalom-trip now!
As to trucks - I mostly use old tracker mids (anno 1978). They last for ever. Most people back here have been using trackers too, and still do - but we see more and more radikals and splitfires on the front ends of decks lately. On the rear end I use a tracker mid for tight and sometimes a seismic for giant slalom. Some use a radikal off-set or an airflow off-set for a rear truck. But this is probably no news to you as I am sure you have discovered the same tendencies down under. Its all very personal - as is choice of decks - but if I were to suggest a very snappy and responsive setup for tight slalom it would be a tracker mid on the rear and a radikal on the front, mounted with a true wheel base (cc axle to axle) of about 52cm. With that you can do donuts around the cones. Speaking of which - that seems like exactly what you are already doing!! 5.5' CC = world standard tight! Yeah!

Henrik,
I am in Townsville, just south of Cairns, we have a small band of downhillers and we try slalom and would really like to meet someone of your standing. We have cones and places to use them and would love some advice/tuition if you are passing through. I'm also sure we could find you a bed somewhere if you call through.
Cheers

Tight course in the video

Henrik, the tight course on the right in the video was probably about 5.5' centre-to-centre on the straight sections. Glad you liked it.
What sort of trucks are the Euro slalomers using? People here are generally using Trackers cos they're cheap and available.

K, Bugs and Jogger - thanks for your replies and thanks for the generous offer to crash in sydney!
I took a look at the video - and it's looking VERY good! You certainly burn some rubber over there.. How tight is that initial section of the right hand side course (left side on the vid / true right side)? Center to center. Looking good, anyway.
Took a quick look at your OST forum - but will go back with more time another day. Saw that you had a discussion on equipment which I would happily contribute a little to if you like. The Airflow boards are pretty much the standard for high end racing in europe. I use an airflow s-camber Jani S Pro model for tight courses - as do a lot other racers over here. For Giant Slalom - check out the airflow C81 - a serious podium attender in europe. But I think there's a bit of a gap between us and euro taste when it comes to decks. They like long decks with pointed noses - we dont. But it doesnt really matter that much. Everyone finds what they like and eventually it's more down to the trucks and wheels than the deck - and of course finally down to technique.
But I will happily contribute to your materials discussion if you want a european perspective.. And - if I bring my airflow s-camber, you can all try it if you like.
Anyway - thanks for your responses - must go to bed now. But we'll be in touch. And again - that video looked damn good. Post some more!

Hey Henrik, I can't help you with slalom spots outside Sydney (there might not be any!), but in Sydney we have a small scene going as you can see from this forum. Feel free to email me and get in touch.
Here's a video of a few of us at one of our regular spots.

.. excuse the lack of modesty in the topic - but if you are going to use a title to introduce yourself - why not pick the best you have..
Planning a trip to the east coast of OZ December 2005. Will unfortunately miss your national championships as I would leave Europe on the 4th of Dec. Perhaps you have other competitions down the east coast around xmas or new year - or just the odd slalom gathering..
Unsure whether to bring my board or not - but thought I ought to check first if there was a scene in Australia at all.? Found nothing on Australia on http://www_slalomskateboarder_com/phpBB/ (why are you not there? - this is a pure slalom site - that is where the slalomworld meets!). But I checked ncsda, and YES! - I found all this under the asia/pacific section. Good to see this is a worldwide passion!
Be good to be in touch with someone whilst I'm there. Please drop me a mail or write here if anyone has any suggestions as to where I ought to stop by along the coast cairns-melbourne. All slalomworthy spots on this coast would be great information. As will any contact with cone owners and slalom session organizers.
looking forward to oz - with or without slalom board.
regards, Henrik Madsen (Sweden)
ps. I suggest you contact Corky or Jani on Slalomskateboarder.com if you want to have your own section opened there - I am sure they would be delighted to have you there! ds.

My last post was really at Kanufi and the other guy who both showed interest weeks ago and then never bothered to get back in contact once I was in Oz. Sorry guys.

Good session at Allawah today (no rain!). Set a pretty difficult course, maybe too hard!
Next one at P5 at Homebush on Thursday night, 7:30ish. We've got the space to set up two courses there, so we can set a course for all standards. Courses for horses.

Looking forward to a session this Sunday. Haven't skated for a while.
We have to get back to the netball courts soon - it could be THE spot for a slalom/longboard race. Need to test out whether a course can be set that will work for all sorts of boards/riders.
