Streetluge gear for sale
On 11/18/2007 Jason Breault wrote in from United States  (72.45.nnn.nnn)

Ive got some top notch luge gear for sale, as i am indefinately retired from the sport at this point.
I have not inventoried my gear lately but from memory i have:

Rogers brothers 1st generation pegless luge, green and silver paint, with home made fender/numberplate setup. Includes 3 z-roller trucks and 83mm flywheels. needs bushings and bearings, otherwise its race ready, some crash scuffs on underside of rails otherwise its good.

Custom syed race leathers, they were fitted to me when i was 6'1 220 lbs, they were on the loose side, and the left leg/calf is larger than the right to accomodate a knee brace i wore at the time. will need to be re-fitted and modified. there is crash scuffing on the hip and the cuffs of the arms but all seams intact, worn only 1 race and a few practice runs.

Few bell wedge helmets, i have 2 i believe, 1 is older xl and the lining is worn but intact and not flaking to the best of my knowlege, it is custom painted chameleon green and silver, the other is either a large or an xl (can check if i get any interest)it is newer and it is painted to match the board, hunter green and silver with pinstriping accents. it has some scuffs from one crash shell is not cracked or stressed. Pics via email if interested.

i have a few other odds and eds i can throw in to sweeten the deal but i need to inventory the stuff once i know someone may be interested in the gear.

i also have a drop thru homemade cutaway style speedboard, metallic wrinkle green and black flame paint. 13 ply birch.

the board has a vinyl carrying bag, if i can find it it willbe included with the board.

REASONABLE offers please, it is all still perfectly functional, professional quality gear, im not looking for what i have in it but i do expect reasonable offers.

100+mph
On 11/7/2007 Paul Howard wrote in from United States  (65.122.nnn.nnn)

Hey V.WSR, On your feet, stomach, butt or back - 100+mph is some serious speed, hats off to you. Towed flat or on a slope, it's still 100+mph.

Now I see what you mean about wheel material choice, I can't say I'd want urethane tearing off of my bearings with centrifugal force at that speed. Good idea.

Cool story about the board making it's way back to you.

I'm at work, gotta go - P

We cool.....
On 11/3/2007 Voyagerwsr wrote in from United States  (207.200.nnn.nnn)

Well Paul, here is the deal. When I would ride at places like Templin Hiway and it would be real hot and we would get a good tail wind it was getting hard to exceed 80. Now about that time streetluge was bginning to come into a defined kind of setup and race format and what I wanted to do was go fastas well as road race. Not everone wanted to do the speed stuff, and that's cool but then people were getting bummed with me showing up with my streamliner and calling me a rule breaker. Funny because at that time the rules were very open. When I went to Providence RI to help set up the Venue for the first Xgames ESPN claimed they copywrited the name Streetluge and we could not use it , even if we were describing what sport we were into. Thought they never did back it up I just kept using the term that all laydown skateboarders used up to that point in time, After the first Xgames the sport became officially and in the street vernacular, streetluge. But I was always a downhill skateboarder, either stand up or laydown, period. Around 1991, Roger Hickey lamenting on this terminology problem decided to coin the term Speedboarding, for standup downhill skateboarding, which I told him would never catch on, you just cant rename something that exist and no one would use that term. LOL Anyway since the very beginning, I have wanted to find out how fast I could go on a skateboard. I tried Drafting, which worked so well my other team mate freaked out when he realized the S/U record would be in the 80 mph range, laydown was even higher. That program reqiured a rider/driver team and when he was out I had no one else to do it with, So In the dumpster it went. Then It became obvious to me that with so many risk to running at 100 mph on a road it was just asking for trouble, so many problems. It is not just a hold the rope kind of deal, there are many technical issues. We discovered that the tensile strength of cast urethane was not predictable enough to make a wheel that could spin fast enough with out grenading. So I developed these solid wheels after working on a supersonic jet car program, having learned the specifics of solid metal wheel design. You cannot run them on a road, obviously. A dry lake is where these work, and El Mirage is where I will do it. I was going to sell them, but about a week ago I re-ran a stress simulation with the correct data and the wheels will rotate at 7500 rpm with a huge safety margin. So the problem is that , when people saw the pic of the SH board, it was rediculous. I of course need to be towed, up to 110 and release prior to entering the time trap and from the release point Iam out out draft and on my own. If I fall it will probably feel like I was riding a skateboard, but I have been told that what Iam doing is not downhill speedboarding. I never said I wanted to go downhill, just 100. For my own personal thrill. So for that and other reasons, I will be attempting 100 mph on a skateboard, not a speedboard. Just to be clear. On the oak deck, I think I will have Guy Grundy sign it for me and keep it in my garage. Where I will eat my ice cream. . On a side note, a few days ago a board I built 1983 was given back to me and it is one I used to attempt a Guinness record with . It is representative of what was before Streetluge, a long laydown skateboard, who knew?

Voyagerwsr - Yeah Bro, we're cool.

Cool picture with the La Costa setup, I love that old stuff.

100+mph, Standup in a tuck?? That's Intense.

Are you planning on doing it on those metal wheels in the picture of the Signal Hill setup?

Why the choice of metal and not some other material? Just Curious. Wouldn't that create a chatter problem on pavement or is El Mirage a dry salt-lake bed or some other material?

Skateboard Superstunts and rare Cab promo video VHS
On 11/2/2007 JTHD wrote in from United States  (67.188.nnn.nnn)

Skateboard Superstunts is an odd and hard to come by video that came out in 1985 or 86. It's pretty goofy, but it has some rare footage of Hosoi, Roskopp, Mountain and some other old pros. The other tape is a very rare Steve Cabellero promo video from 1996 that came with the Cab robot Samurai deck. I will also throw in Fruit of the Vine, which is an awesome pool skating documentary you may have heard of. My price is $20 plus shipping for all three videos.

... THE BOARD...
On 11/2/2007 voyagerwsr wrote in from United States  (207.200.nnn.nnn)

Ok flame off. whew!! OK, are we all OK now? Paul, it taks a big man to publicly say what ya said. You actually are right on about the asking price. You have to understand, the last skate I sold went for 1200. bucks and no one was more suprised than me. I sold a slalom board I made for 325. Original vintage Signal Hill equipment is off the chart. So I thought , perhaps that a copy of the template I used, not the original, would find a buyer at around 100 bucks, but more than likely it wont. My original board was made by a bowmaker in Westminster, CA named Bear, who made all Powerflex skateboards and was supposed to be important in bow making at the time. The entire setup was originally for sale at 300 bucks but then I just ran a stress calc on the wheels and they are rated to 220 mph and with that info Iam going to proceed with the original goal of reaching 100 mph. I would like to sell the deck at some reasonable price, if that is possible. Doing 100 mph, I have recieved a lot of trash mail on this one. It's a long story, but doing 100 on a hill is near impossible, for one reason roads are not built steep enough and there are other safety issues. So reguardless if anyone else is into it, I wanted to do 100 and what the plan was is to get towed up 105 - 110 and release, that is , let go of the tow vehicle and out of the draft, and coast thru the time trap and , the way I see it, from 100 on down it feels just like riding a skateboard. It will happen at El Mirage. I dont think any speedboarder could care less , but it appealed to me for engineering purposed. Fyi , some of my past projects are on the Skatecar, streetluge pages. So are we all ok now? I want a bowl of ice cream. Also, since you mentioned slalom a few years ago, I was asked by Peggy Turner to come down to help build Turners as I made knock offs in the 1980' that were pretty good. Sorry bout my flame job, we cool?Image and video hosting by TinyPic

100% of the final sale price will support Boarding For Breast Cancer.

Nonprofit's Mission Statement:
Boarding For Breast Cancer (B4BC) is a non-profit, youth-focused education, awareness, and fundraising foundation. Our mission is to increase awareness about breast cancer, the importance of early detection and the value of a healthy lifestyle.

This donation is backed by "Learn more about the MissionFish" guarantee.

Please read & then log on to E-bay & bid!!! PLEASE!!!

This is Chris Chaput, thanking you for checking out my auction here. You have an opportunity to make a difference in the fight against breast cancer, as I will donate all proceeds from this auction to Boarding For Breast Cancer (see Click here for link).

I am offering an extremely rare set (4 wheels) of our second generation 90mm Flywheels that are poured in our Reflex Formula urethane. The Lime color means that they are 80a in durometer - perfect for just about every road condition imaginable. Instead of the usual bright orange core found in the Classic pours, theses have special black cores signifying the Reflex 'thane. Only a few dozen sets exist, none of which are for sale through the normal distribution channels. Only elite racers in unique situations get them, usually by winning first place in a Downhill, Streetluge, or Slalom race. Here's your chance to be one of the few who can say, "I have the Reflex Fly's and they totally rock!"

So far, Dave Rogers and Ross Baradoy have taken a few sets down to Brazil for the Guiness World Record speed attempt and gave them away to the STOKED Brazilian skaters. The fastest time recorded in Downhill Skateboarding was by Douglas "DaLua" Silva. He went over 70mph on 90mm Flywheels. World Chapion Slalom racer Jason Mitchell won a set for winning at the COSS Open last weekend, and James Kelly won some for winning the Junior AND Open class at IGSA's Downhill race at Bonelli. I have every other other set, and I'm not giving them away without a fight.

The World Downhill Skateboarding Champion Martin Siegrist won World Cup events on both Flywheels and Reflex formula BigZigs, but he hasn't tried Reflex Fly's yet. Martin, Mischo Erban, and the Maryhill Festival of Speed winner Scoot Smith will get some soon. Will you beat them to the punch?

Please know that you're not just getting a cool set of wheels. You're helping women, women who skate, and skateboarding. To win this auction is a Win-Win for everyone. Bid hard, bid long, bid early, bid late, or snipe it with a huge number to guarantee victory. If the final bid is $200 or more, I'll toss in a FREE set of Biltin Bearings.

Thanks again and good luck,

Chris Chaput

My apologies to Voragerwsr
On 11/1/2007 Paul Howard wrote in from United States  (65.122.nnn.nnn)

Sorry if I came off too harsh, it wasn't intended that way. I should have made a more clear statement of selling price, I didn't mean "sell it for $10.00". I will still suggest that you will have more success selling it if you lower your price by at least $25.00. But that's just my opinion as a tigthwad who makes my own skateboards and hunting bows and arrows. Also I live in Oregon so you are probably correct that where you live materials probably do cost more. You did not offend me, sorry if I offended you.

Again as I said before, Looking at the picture, it does look well done.

As far as building and posting a longboard, sorry but it won't happen anytime soon, we have a new house and I'm busy with that and I'm busy teaching bowmaking/primitive skills plus I make prehistoric replica working bows(of hunting quality of 45lbs to 70lbs) for sale. I don't even have time for that right now either.

Congrats on a job well done, seriously - Paul

My 2 Cent to "Vintage Man"
On 11/1/2007 Paul Howard wrote in from United States  (65.122.nnn.nnn)

"Vintage Man" - whoever you are,

1st- He's asking $100.00 the Deck ALONE not a complete, reread his post

2nd- I used to custom make modern version of 80's shaped pool/park boards until I got the slalom racing bug too deep and yes, I've made my share of solid wood oak, maple, ash, etc decks since 1974(I'm 44) so I do know what is involved. I DO own the tools and most of us who make all these things already have the required tools to do all sorts of things, we didn't just buy them to make overpriced solid wood deck.

3rd - If those decks were being made as a source of income(which I don't get that impression), AND were made with a bit more fancy details/materials, then $100.00 per deck "might" be understandable. But selling nonvintage garage made project - and a GOOD LOOKING ONE at that just to commemorate Signal Hill racing days gone by doesn't warrent $100.00.

4th - If you think you know so much, why aren't you snatching it up from under all our noses for $100.00? ?? ???

5th - I did NOT say to sell it for $10.00, but that would be a rough guess at production cost, I suggested lowering the asking price.

Especially to Paul on his $10 cost to
make a complete skateboard comment....
WHAT ARE YA SMOKING BOY???????
I have refurbished, made, about 25 or
more decks the past year or so. Its almost
impossible to make a "complete" for less than
$40......... Typical cost is $50-ish, not including
labor, time, similar efforts.
If you crapped out of your butt
the trucks, the wheels, the bearings,
Maybe then the deck completed, MIGHT cost $15 to make....
Oh the wood must cost you $3 and the various power
tool, hand held tools, sanders, sand paper, paint, decals,
screws, nuts, bolts, bushings... Oh those need to be free or
crapped outta your butt as well, if you can make it for $10..
Instead of complaining about something you obviously
know NOTHING ABOUT..... Ask questions about the deck,
learn some of the ins, the outs, the what have you's...
Maybe even take up the sport of skateboarding and then grasshopper,
you will know of what you speak when discussing the topic
of sidewalk surfing... Cause right now child, your information,
ideas, knowledge, is not worth 2 nickles....
It had to be said.......... Live and Learn if gonna pop off with no ammmo...
