Any of you guys out there have any secrets or recommendations for re-greasing your bearings? I would like to know because I'm finally, for the first time, re-building the bearings on my old skateboard which dates back more than 15yrs!!!

I think Birdhouse Jacked bearings are really JACKED!! I had them for three weeks and four of them broke. They spun fast but there defenitly NOT durable.

smooth and silent, surely, but slow. They actually speed up quite a bit if you clean and relube them.

I think these bearings are pretty good. Yes they are silent, but I would rather have more speed out of them. Otherwise they are really good bearings.

Hey everyone...I haven't posted here since last summer...used to be a regular. ;)
Anyway, I picked me up a pair of black panther bearings the other day from my local skateshop just for grins, and I'm pretty pleased with them. Super silent! Does anyone else have these bearings? If so, opinions please!

zero gravity bearings

Bert,
Bearings rated Abec 11 (not to be confused with a wheel brand) are so precise that the effects of gravity are damaging to them. For this reason they can only be manufactured and used in zero gravity environments. Once exposed to gravity they fuse within a few days, so unless you plan on floating a skateboard in space, you can forget about it.

Swiss are the ideal skatebearing. Fast+Quiet= Lethal combonation. They cost about $40 and they last forever. They never break and are hella fast.Best All-around bearing for a good price. Powell Bones Swiss...Accept no substitute...

Cwenk,
Roger's right about the bearings... unless you can pick them up cheap! I believe big 5 is having a sale on the code 3 bearings (16 for 10 bucks) These are decent and better than what came stock.
For best results on the flowlab use spacers and lightly oiled bearings. Then find a steeper hill!
At low speeds it's not the greatest, but in the 20-25 mph range its a hoot... HR

cwenk,
I noticed you said "re-greasing". That is part of the problem. Grease is very slow, oil is so much faster. Inliners often use oil and have to wait for them to warm up so that they are not very slow. But a flowlab has so many wheels/bearings it would very hard to get them all up to working temperature.
Even with the fastest bearings, Flowlabs are inherently slower (limitation of nonparallel axles). So I would not really invest in more bearings. btw, do they include bearing spacers now?

Bearings for Flowlab

Hugh, I got my Flowlab board about 2 weeks ago, and immediately noticed that it was really slow. I rode it for several hours, expecting it to speed up, but it never happened. Just yesterday I spent about an hour and 45 minutes cleaning and re-greasing the bearings (what a pain 14 wheels can be!!), and rode for about an hour last night, with no benefit in speed. I was wondering what type of bearings you are running, and where. I am just trying to gather info before I invest in THREE sets of bearings to do this board. Thanks for your help.

is it true that if use a set of swiss bones to skate around, slide and cruise they will separate often? are they an ideal bearings for speed only?

The Quick Lube stuff sounds interesting although I don't see how you can clean and lube in the same step. To really clean you must first degrease which removes the old grease, dirt, etc. and then relube. I'm not familiar with the product you're using so I could be wrong but adding lubricant before cleaning is just that; adding new lubricant with dirty lubricant. To really get the most out of any moving part that requires lubricant, get all of the old grease and dirt particles out and then lube, makes a pretty big difference.

they're not all equal, there are other variables but as someone who has installed many a set,of reds sometimes they spin better than others. a shortboard i set up yesterday with "Ricta" wheels brought this to my attention,by spinning uniformly(all wheels equal) amazing, maybe the cores were extra straight,or perfectly matched to the spacer length,or the bearings themselves, perhaps, "D, all the above".

NEVER USE WD-40 ON BEAINGS. IT ISN'T REALLY THAT GOOD. USE CASTROL'S PROFESSIONAL QUIKLUBE. IT MAKES YOUR BEARINGS GET SO FAST AND SMOOTH. ITS AMZING. TRY IT AND SEE FOR YOURSELF.

CHINA BONES ARE VERY NICE. THEY ARE SMOOTH AS BUTTER. AND ARE VERY FAST. THOUGH, WHEN THEY GO FAST THEY TEND TO LOSE THEIR SMOOTH. BUT THE ONE SHEILD MAKES VERY EASY CLEANING. IF YOU WANT THEM VERY FAST, CLEAN AND LUBE THEM WITH "CASTROL'S PROFESIONAL QUICKLUBE." THAT IS THE BEST LUBE AND CLEANER EVER, PERIOD.I ONLY HAVE SEEN IT AT ONE STORE SO YOU MAY NOT FIND IT. IF YOU DO BUY IT AND YOU WILL NEVER REGRET IT. AND THE BEARINGS ARE ONLY 15 DOLLARS!

In my opinion, brake parts cleaner is the best way to degrease your bearings and clean them. This is the same stuff as Gun Degreaser yet is only about 2$ a can just because it doesn't say gun degreaser. The stuff works absolutely fantastic......just remember to regrease!!
