Swiss Bone Help

I never had that problem. I thought triflow was a lubricant not a cleaner. But what I would do is put some Citrus Degreaser into the bearing. I got a big bottle at Home depot. Spin, shake, whatever you like and That generally cleans out the grit. Also look inside the bearing to see if anything is stuck inside. Repeat as many times necessay. Add clean lubriciant and it should be good.

Need advice on cleaning bearings!
I got some swiss bones that have some kinda problem i can't figure out. I'd spin the bearing between my fingers, and it felt like somethingwas stuck in there or something. So I washed the bearings by taking off the shields and then putting 'em in a bottle with "Tri-Flo" lubricant, and shook it up. a lot of dirty stuff came out, but there was still a rough roll. by the way, only 2 of the bearings do this. the rest run like new.

Had to skate through rain today to get back home. I was scared my China's would rust, But i guess all those drops of graphite oil kept em protected. *Whew*. Yea i kind of have to agree with slappy, i've never heard of Black Rain b4. Though I would have said so in a more gentle tone.
;-). *Shrugs* but there are alot of companies out there. If you like it, use it.

I smell a feeble attempt to get a product noticed three and four posts down. Go buy advertising or get real testimonials for your ABEC 2's that you probably spray painted with black enamel. Don't allow dirt or water to get in? - Get a copywriter while you're at it.

Jefe, welcome back to the fold! After recently overcoming a 15 year brainwashing session myself (re: little / no skating), I can sympathise. The simple green is water base, don't use it. Solvents such as acetone (nail polish remover), and toluene are as close as your nearest drug store or Home Depot. For greased bearings, you'll have to get tough, carb cleaner works well or anything with 1,1,1 trichloroethylene (use this one outside only, watch your eyes). If your bearings have a plastic retainer or seal, don't soak long-term in these, just spin the bearings in a shallow cup of solvent until fairly clean, then use a second, fresh cup of solvent to finish the job. Clean when you hear a slightly gritty sound when spinning the wheels. Lube with a light oil, not grease, the Bones Speed Cream is nice, if overpriced due to being packaged for skating. Check out the archives on this site, a wealth of information just waiting for you, also the search feature.

not so much a review, but a question:
not many postings on these bearings. I have them on a new Soulcarver board I just got ...which is SO MUCH FUN....randal rII 180's, aluminator 70/78a ...cannot over-recommend this set-up for pure fun....but I digress...
These seem like great , sericeable bearings...but not many folks openly discussing or extolling their virtues? Is there a generic name equivalent I'm missing?
How often should I clean/relube, relative to hours used in dry road conditions? are simple green as solvent, and red mobile 1 synthetic bearing grease ok? (great for bike bearings...)
happy to be back at it in my 42nd yr...it's been a 30 yr hiatus; the new running gear is a huge so7urce of pleasure and hilarity in my life...

I had these for a 3 months. WHen i first got them they were slow. I kept riding them for about a month and they got faster. I lubed the races with a graphite oil. It's suppose to be waterproof and less likely to attract dirt. The shields were pretty good because i walked into sand on the beach silly me and cleaned them out later that night. The rubber shield helps alot to keep dirt out. If you pack too much grease in the bearing stops and a ball flies out, but i just put it back in and its a bearing.

First let me warn you of my limited experiance with different bearings (manufacturers, ABEC rating, etc.)
What I can share is my experiances.
I just started skating again after a break of about 20 yrs. Even back then quality was paramount in equipment performance. Recently I have experianced these 2 types of bearings.. ABEC 3 Luckys and cheap ABEC 7 from China. Having 2 identical setups, the ABEC 7s were definately faster than the ABEC 3s. It wasn`t until after wear the the ABEC 3s showed their value. It seems that the 7 were wearing out and getting slower. Even after repeated cleanings and lubes.
I`m now getting back into slalom so my next set-up is the new G@S Response w/ Hyper Stradas. After reading others posts of similar set-ups here at NCDSA, Isee that most favor the Bones Swiss bearings. So that`s the bearings going into my next set-up.
I`ll post my results...

Have you read the FAQ on bearings in the links section? I wonder what people's take on this is. Even though it make perfect sense to me (that bearing ratings and materials are based on use in high speed machinery in balanced conditions) I am still enough of a mindless consumer to wonder when I'm choosing between ABEC numbers. I know it is a ploy, yet everybody has an emotional attachment to different bearings. Why is that?

Have been riding the lucky titaniums for about a week now on my commuter. I have to say that they are a fine quick bearing!! I'd say they are comprable to bones swiss.
As a sidenote; I was warned at purchase to make sure they never run dry, as they have been known to "lock up"....ouch.

What a superb bearing. Got 2 sets today and mounted them up and gave em a run on 25 cones at speed. These are better than the Bones Reds I have by a long shot and at 10.50 a set an incredible bargain. I recommend em to all.

Those abec 5 speed metal rock. Put some lighter fluid and it will go like fa**en bearings. Try e'm. Only for 15.00 buck. Advidsory:extremly fast for abec 5 if you clean them.

Z, had them 20 years ago, the 9 ball thin bearings are the ones that are "new" .Though if i asked around at some bearing distributors i'm sure it's history goes back to something other than skateboarding,i've had a set of these for a year or so, before SIN's were available,skateboard types are more artistic, lots of ideas,but generally need to hire ,farm out,or partner with people,when something involves serious engineering.i.e actually making bearings,formulating ;urithane,glue,ect ect.Of course there are exceptions,Paul Schmidt, powell,maybe a few others.

Those bike brakes with the minibearings came out at least 4 or 5 years ago,easy.I just asked a friend and he reminded me of another brake(Hershey,in case some of you rid mountainbikes as well) that came with minibearings at least 7 or 8 years ago.

The first place i saw a mini bearing (i don't know if it was a 688) was on a AVID cantilever brake ,these brakes mount on 8mm studs.While tring to get rid of brake arm slop and run perfectly smooth,many mountainbikers know how many grams every part of their bike weighs (in grams)and light bearings were the only way to go.

Ive got two boards, one with bog standard abec 1's, and another with BOSS ABEC 7's. The Abec 1 board is faster! I tested 30 times with my friend, and the ABEC 1 board won every time! The ABEC rating is shit for use with boards dont waste your money on expensive bearings.

PCB,
what HerbN is referencing is commonly known as multi purpose screws! My operation was a complete success! Had to puncture a few, in order to get a "bite" on the shields... Amazingly there was still green grease in some!! Now to subect them to a bath in tuoluene And a nice shower of speed cream!!! viola...Good as new. Some one mentioned ,(think it was Ur13) the fear of unprotected inners! Do you guys remember the "dust cups?" or "dust discs?" Stuck on w/ adhesive to the outer edge of your wheels to prevent dirt from reaching the bearings!!!! Had a set on some dk51's Man do those things go wingin' into the ditch ,with a carve!!!!
HERB N I need your site to cut some Randal 150's down!!!!!
