Just got back from the Jet Pool in L.A. Had a great lunch hour session with a co-worker. Hot sunny skies, no cops. What a nice feeling. Now I can focus on work. NOT.

Just got my DeathBox W. Ruml model in the mail yestrday! Can't wait to ride it this weekend. This board has an awesome shape with a slight, very slight, up-turned nose and slight concave. I am going to set it up with Indy 166's and Abec 11 Stingers for now. I will switch once the Abec No Skoolz are availble.
The thing I noticed right away about every DeathBox board, besides the great graphics, is that the rear truck mounting holes are not right up against, or even on the curve, of the kick tail. Finally a board that has a nice kick tail! This is the one thing I have consistantly not liked about all of the "new school decks".
Thank you DeathBox for bringing all these great shapes (and names) back to skating! I think I am going to collect (and of course ride) one of every model they offer. Lets see, will it be the Hackett or Folmer model I order next week...

Spat is right. Bones Skatepark Formula 60mm are great. Speed with grip. Run those Indy's loose. Get red bushings for 146's. Red or yellow for 156's depending on your weight. Yellow for 166's.

As far as wheels are concerned, there is no magic bullet to cover all the parks/pools out there. For most situations, I stay b/w 92a through 100a with a size of 60mmm-65mm. Basically, I suit the wheel to the terrain. On durometer, I never drop below 92a. Just too slow for me and the surface has to be pretty rough for me to even drop as low as 92. For ultra smooth surfaces such as Van's parks and skatelite material I've found the Bones Skatepark Formulas in 60mm to reign supreme....very fast and grips extremely well. One thing to consider is that the durometer (hardness) does not necessarily indicate how much grip a wheel will/will not have. Just remember, speed and grip must go hand in hand. One is not generally good w/o the other. As far as trucks, you generally run them looser in pools. Just experiment until you find a setting that allows you to carve while still maintaining control at speed.

Nima,
I've been using the 97a Street Gs at most parks for both 'crete bowls and wood/skatelite ramps, and have found them to be one of the best all-around wheels. The 90a Street Gs (green) also work extremely well. I've found them to be just slightly slower than the 97s (but still faster than most wheels available), and have more traction (too much, sometimes!) If the 97s feel slow because of rough surfaces, give the 90s a try...
As for truck width, Indy 166s with the Street Gs on 10" decks works best for me. I like having the edge of the wheels just slightly narrower than the widest point of the deck...

The thing that made me think about having softer wheels over concrete was the fact that my speed is noticeably slower with a harder wheel than a softer one... I don't have a huge experience in many different parks, but the two that I have been in here in the Chicago area are both pretty rough... Coming from a slalom background the rattling is just killing me... Nima
p.s. how wide are the trucks you ride in the pool with? Is wider better?

Some guys like softer wheels on concrete however I'm not one of them. Unless, of course the concrete is rough. I don't think I've ever been to a park that was rough enough to warrant going to a softer wheel. Basically, the softer the wheels are the slower you go. In my opinion, 97's are the perfect all around wheel. Unless, all you skate are perfect pipes made of Skatelite or something like it, then i would go even harder. This, of course, is just my opinion.

I am not sure if this is the forum but I am trying to figure out the best set up for a pool-oriented board. I have gotten myself a 34.25 x 10 boards and have set it up with Indies 215s and 97a Street Gs. Now, is it true that for concrete parks it would be better to have softer wheels and for indoor parks where the construction is smooth wood, then harder wheels are better. Also, how those who really ride them pools have their trucks set up--e.g. Loose or tight?
Any pointers will be appreciated.

Hey Scumbag, you are right about Lancaster...it is pretty lame....in fact, a very old Reading Sk8 Park is far superior, far more flow,etc...yea, it is still not dozed as I speak(yea)...I hope it is too hot for those dozer operators...I went up again and there were lots of bikes there and only one other sk8r besides myself...everyone was cool, though....if u go there, then u must swing by Philly and sk8 FDR too...another hour away.

OOOPS....I forgot to add in my last post....if u travel north on I-95 (say, from DC) you will take the I-695 east exit for the Baltimore Beltway......if u are travelling up I-295(Baltimore-Washington Parkway) then you exit at I-695 west! Enjoy! I'm looking for travelling roadtrippers to Louisville, KY later this summer...to hit their 24/7 concrete sk8 park. Anybody want to convoy?? Also lbk: Looks like I we may b able to carpool to Folly Beach afterall and return monday!

Hey Ian: It is Reading, Pennsylvania's old asphalt sk8 park that is to be no longer due to a change in landowners...we all know it as READING SK8 PARK but it is actually in a tiny itsy bitsy town south-east of Reading,PA called Jacksonwald...about 3.5 hours north-east of where I live in Maryland. Hey lbk: To find Lansdown sk8 park: Take exit 9 off the Baltimore Beltway(Hollins Ferry Rd). Turn left at end of exit, go thru one light, up the hill and turn right onto BERO RD,head down the hill, park when u see the path between the rowhouses...nowadays u must wear all pads& helmet to sk8 it, sign up for an ID card (free). It's still a fun place to ride but a fence cuts across where we used to start on the path between the houses to get speed...hours are lame, though....noon-dark, weekends, 3:30-dark weekdays, until school gets out...ENJOY!

Directions to Landsdowne Skate Park: I95 North to 695 Baltimore Beltway to Hollins Ferry Road North, Right onto Buro Rd.(spelling?), down hill and park on left, park is behind homes through a path near a fence. Not visible from the road.
Check the map because the 695 exit is a bit tricky, I think you want 695 East. Also the skate park is in an older neighborhood consisting of small square red brick town homes (1 story tall I think).
Hope I'm not too vague.

The ditches and bowls are still skateable as is the pool....bring bucket, hose and broom to clean water and dirt out.......and be prepared to share it w/all the bikers...I've been there the past 2 sundays and it's been a great session for everyone!

Probably the best park out there to date. As far as the concrete though, I fear for its future due to the fact they allow bikes in the park.
