Let's meet at the new park off Mount Herman Road north of Santa Cruz some weekend after Worlds. John Ravitch, Mark Johnson, Hut, Miko, Gary Holl, John Kim, Bill Evans...let's keep in contact and set a date.
Steve Caballero is organizing a reunion with old Campbell and Winchester Park skaters. Looking for Scott Foss and a few others...

Yo! A big thanks to Hamm, BigPapaSD, Lynn, Mark, Robb, Michael, Jeff, and the other San Diego area skaters that made me feel really welcome on my short visit.
Had a blast at WSP, Coranado (2x), Memorial, El Cajon, Poway, and (even) OB.
I could skate forever at WSP and never hit the same line twice.
Coranado was smmooooth sailing and not crowded at all.
Memorial's snakerun tried to defy gravity, but the park still had plenty to offer.
El Cajon didn't have any high round walls, but had a few unique qualities of its own.
Poway... This park has a lot of potential. It was a bit crowded for me to really get to know, but if there was one park that I'd like to hit on a weekday morning, Poway would be IT. That snake run is a winner!
OB -- as I remembered from my previous visit -- just needed some softer wheels to make it skatable.
I'm still recovering from the 2-day, 13+ hours of skate time -- followed up by the shock of sitting on a jet for a day & behind a desk for two more...
ZZZzzzzz.... <need to skate....>...

I stumbled on this wooden kidney while up in the city for a conference. Luckily I had my gear in the rental so I took a "power lunch". At the museum, the energy was like a good pool session - but it wasn't - it was all wood, it was an art installation - we were performance artists. Every line was carveable - no reason really to lift your front trucks. Carve grind carve grind carve carve grind etc... I ran into one skater after the museum closed for the day. We looked at each other and said "hey" knowing we just skated something special. Total blast.

high quality of skaters present. music. felt like a party.
the pool coping was a surprise, I'd figured
with wood, it would be steel, but no.
anyway, it kicks ass, how often to you get to skate for free inside
a swanky art museum? truth is stranger than fiction.
I hate that smashup derby bulls#@!. like skating isn't hard enough?

One of the things I don't like about alot of the Oregan parks is the open bowl crash up derby they have going, myself, I prefer a dedicated pool. That blow hole looks like fun though!

So, I had to go to Florence, since the Gravity team already beat me to it. From the photos they took, it looked like a fun park. I didn't know if they would let me skate (not being a team of any kind), but I went anyway. Grand opening is this next weekend. So, I didn't know if it was open or not.
Upon arriving I notice that the place is teaming with kids. They are everywhere. Music is playing, and kids are rolling and running all over this place. It was a nut house. Anything that rolls. Scooters, bikes, blades, roller skates, you name it, the kids were rolling it.
My buddy Steve and I took one look and went back and padded up. We were stoked. It looked like a lot of fun. We started to weave in and out of kids. The walls in the deepend look to be 12 feet high. So, once we started hitting the top, and coming down with speed, kids started to get out of the way. A few close calls, and one collision later, and things were generally cleared out.
The design lends it self to one huge crash up derby factor. That big hole in the wall. Scooters would sneak their way through and surprise us. We had to skate with one eye on the back of our head. We were constantly looking out for each other while the other was skating.
The scene was hectic, but energizing. The kids were stoked to have such a rad park. A couple other guys showed up and showed us some lines over the hole in the wall.
It's a natural backside line for a regular footed rider. Here's Steve:
I wanted to go over frontside, so that took me a while to figure a good line over.
Next time I'm going to be looking for a grind over that hole!
The park is fun, and quirky with some wild lines. I think that the deepend suffers being open to the rest of the park. Allowing little kids without a clue to roll straight into a really dangerous situation. Also the big walls don't have equally big walls opposing it. Making it more of a one hit wonder. A guy zooms in and around the hole, do a grind, and then all that's left are short walls. But, overall it's a fun park, worth hitting if your in the area.
I especially like the imprinted concrete that looks and feels just like real tile. A full speed buzz over the tile makes my day!

That shot looks solid. A quick search didn't yield much as far as location and hours. Can you pass along more details? Zach is designing the Menlo Park skatepark (walking distance for me!) but it has yet to break ground, though the site is being "prepped".

I guess it is because they do not want you to take any photos of the art in the joint. The security guard go s#@!ty with me when I was using my camera phone. I guess if you can sneak in a small digital camera, you can get away with some shots. It needs to be kept on the downlow... there are "eyes in the sky" (cameras) watching your every move.

The grand opening was 2 days ago.

Brad Edwards tried to be the 4th person to ever complete a Flowing Loop. He made these tries in Sept. at Reedsport, OR skatepark. He tried about 7-8 times before injuring his ankle too much to carry on. He will be back to try again.

Carlsbad(oldest skatepark on the westcoast)was still there but some of it was filled-in(?)and to my knowledge Mike McGill had his vert ramp on top of it in the late 80's/mid 90's.

IS it the same park that was made in 75 (or so)? I thought kona/lansdowne/derby were the only surviving parks in the country. Does anyone still skate there. That would be sweet spot for some sort OS reunion or pilgrimmage or something. It may help their cause too.
