Lowe's/ Cereal Bowl/ Palmer's
On 2/8/2004 K-LEE wrote in from (129.24.nnn.nnn)

Oh, good. I wasn't sure if that construction on the Lowe's Ditch was an add-on or a rebuild. Gotta hit that sucker! Starts at Holbrook, huh? How many 3-mile ditches do we have in this town?

Cereal Bowl? Sounds promising! Need to get myself a shovel....

The bowl part reminds me of a rumor I've heard about in the past. Anyone know anything about the ditch/bowl thing that used to be (or hopefully still is) somewhere around the Beach Waterpark? I've heard stories of people digging it out in the '80s and skating it. I also know that the Beach Waterpark has been moved at least one time in the past. Any leads?

Palmer's on Tuesday night? If I'm feeling up to it, I'll see ya there. Couln't think of a better place to spend a Tuesday night, unless I'm feeling like crap again.

And Sharon works at:

Albuquerque Regional Medical Center
601 Martin Luther King Jr Ave Ne
NM
(505) 727-8000
http://www.hospitalsoup.com/ExternalWebFrame.asp?HospitalID=21147

but my aunt used to work there too, and I know for a fact that the administration is pure evil. Good luck.

Lowes is great - especially if you start at it's origination at Holbrook. 3 miles east!! That is a real thigh-burner.... Butter trannies all the way.

K-Lee and Nugz - you guys gotta check out our latest ditch project "The Cereal Bowl". It's on!! Just bring your shovels and gloves. A true gem for sure.

And get yer ass over to Palmers teusday nite!!

Lowes
On 2/8/2004 Tony wrote in from (67.0.nnn.nnn)

Yo! KLee, Lowes is one of my faves, and what I can see is that the ditch is the same except all of those canals they just added on. Huge walls, perfect smooth transition and a bike path right next to it to do roll-outs and roll-Ins on.

Lowe's Ditch, ABQ
On 2/7/2004 K-LEE wrote in from (129.24.nnn.nnn)

Has anyone taken a good look at the new construction they're doing to the ditch behind the Lowes at I-25 and Paseo? How much of it are they making un-skatable? As soon as the snow melts of the southern wall of all the ditches in town, I'm down for a ditch safari, focusing on the westside. Who's with me?

mid 70's bank surfing/freestyle deck
On 2/3/2004 Dave wrote in from (67.67.nnn.nnn)

Hello. I got some good advice here about a year ago regarding a narrow freestyle deck I wanted to build. Jack at Bahne was great and made me a Bahne rocker that's 6.5" wide. It worked out fine as a mini-longboard but I finally figured out why I couldn't turn it fast enough to do Bertlemans. The wheelbase was way too long (it was originally a 8.75" pool deck).

Can anyone tell me what a reasonable wheelbase for a 6.5" early to mid-70s bank surfing and freestyle board would be? I'm trying to get a board similar to what Jay Adams and co. used for their low, loose, surfy skating with lots of Bertlemans. (I'm using Tracker midtracks and 64mm--Bulldog Dubcons, not exactly period, but close enough for me).

Thanks a lot.

Hattiesburg Fullpipes
On 2/2/2004 Andrew wrote in from (208.34.nnn.nnn)

Hi Arab! I was at that outdoor show. We were skating on the tables. It was killer. Hattiesburg used to have killer punk shows. Dagnasty, 7 seconds, Black Flag, Vandals, etc... All kind of bands came through there. I was a young tadpole then. Sorry you had a bad experience in my hometown. I’ve never heard of anything like that happening around here since the 1960's. You should have called the ACLU! I’d say we are one of the least racist places in the country now because we saw where it got us! Its all a stereotype thing now we cannot escape! Anyway, if you’re ever back this way, I’d Love to show you around! We have some bigger pipes too! Ricky Byrd & Clifton J. are really turning out a lot of killer slalom riders. He’s a great guy!

Hattisburg, MS.
On 2/2/2004 Arab wrote in from (24.24.nnn.nnn)

Andrew-I skated the Hattisburg pipes around 1987?, I was on Tour with JFA, Skatemaster Tate and the Concrete Crew. We rolled into town and did a demo at a local shop, some kid took a few of us to the pipes, What I remember about Hattisburg, Kid Caviar the singer of the Concrete Crew and I went to go eat at some little bar, they wouldnt serve him(He's Black), I was pretty bummed and started to say some s#@!, Cav grabbed me ant said "lets go, they just as soon hang us both" .

Hope that stuff doesnt happen anymore, besides that, Hattisberg was a blast, all the kids were cool and the scene was happening there.

Wish I could make it to the Luna Jam, Ricky and I have been in contact long before this whole slalom rebirth, he's a cool cat and I'm stoked you guys are getting the slalom groove on.

Water Wheels
On 1/29/2004 Steve in Dry AZ wrote in from (192.175.nnn.nnn)

The only thing that sticks on wet asphalt or concrete is rubber.

There are a number of rubber skinned wheels out there, including the new Emotions. I have a set of aluminum hubbed Vikings in 72mm that I take with me to races...just incase things get damp.

XT-wheelz also makes a great selection of the big-monster rubber wheels...8-balls, SS and their Rainmasters.

Grip is better...but they are slow, slow, slow.
