I can't believe there are still spots open for memorial day weekend. Anyone who hasn't signed up, this is going to be an awesome weekend! Joe's events are always 1st class. If Indian school is as good as last year, it too will be AWESOME! throw in tons of ditch runs with shuttles, Vert ramps, parks, pools, beer, barbeques, a few THOUSAND $$$ in prize money, I mean, this is as good as it gets. Like Ditchstock. Add in a bonus Monday race at Rio Bravo, and I don't care if I die next month, as long as it's after Memorial Day weekend.
If you are on the fence, jump off and let's skate! Lowrie, I am bummed you are bailing. I hope you are still around for ditch runs that weekend.
PALMER, I know I said I was gonna pay Monday, but I get paid tomorrow, and you are at the top of my list. Who cares if the power gets shut off. I have candles.

Thanks to those who emailed me with some Aussie ditch info, I appreciate it. A couple new video clips have been added to the Team Known website. Bryson and Mick skated a pool the other day and took a bit of video. Have a look if you get the chance. They will be joining Adam and I in Australia shortly to complete some skate and surf footage. The Aus video will be avaiable this coming summer. Thanks again! -Match Team Known

PALMER,
I will have my money Paypalled probly on Monday.
Pug,
Just go. Bring a long board with some Kryps or something else a little big and a little soft, and just go. It will be worth it. Hell, let me know when you are going and we can shuttle or something. Just go.

Hope you're all doin' well! I'm in Australia right now for 5 months and have been skating a few parks, etc. - but didn't know if anyone knew of some good ditches or banks in the New South Wales area of Australia, specifically Sydney. I looked through the international NCDSA boards, but did not see one for Australia. Let me know if you have any info! Thanks a lot! -Match Team Known

as long as you want it to be, yes, bmw carver was wierd, but def. recomend a long board and be used to speed! steep enough, in parts, more mellow in others watch for kids, holes, ladders, bridges, kids, rocks, glass, water, anything wet, did I mention kids? They love to roll right up and in like crossing a street without looking...?

If you are travelling to NM for this race, please go to the contest calendar to find hotel and travel info for your stay. Since this will be Memorial Day weekend, you'll want to book your lodging asap, in past years lodging next to the skatepark has proved to be a challenge for late night arrivals without reservations. If nothing else be sure to book a room for Saturday night so that after the Sk8park Slalom race you can ride until midnight and then skate 1 block back to your room to pass out.

Isabelle, good idea to prepare your legs for the Indian School ditch. I skated way too long and hard the day before the race last year and didn't have anything left for the race itself. The Marshall is absolutely right about preparing your mind. There are some interesting things such as metal plates with bolts you float over at 30mph..as well as low over passes, maybe anti freeze or other unknown fear factors. ABQ is the ultimate experience for ditch skating as well as pools and parks. Everyone is very core and very gracious. Big props to all those guys who put the race on every year.

The Marshall, thanks for the terror tips...i've watched video and it looks very knarly.......for that reason, i'm R&Ding a board just to help not eatting s#@!. i was more or less looking for endurance training so my thighs don't bonk on the longer ditch races the bear, which seems to be balls-out or tail-between-the-legs-and-run-like-hell.......i'v e never seen a ditch so big, so until i'm there, i can only plan, plan and re-plan thanks dude.

Isabelle; run the ditch blindfolded and switch. That's the best way to prepare for the Bears terror factor....

Google Maps now has a satellite view that lets you zoom in real close. Its better than other satellite image sites.
http://maps.google.com/
then click "satllite view" on the right column
I found a ditch on this "satllite view" server thanks to the input of a Vegas person Mark Jackson. It is in the south of Vegas. To Quote Mark:
"There's a great ditch right off of Horizon ridge ( actually there's a few ) - take Eastern up to Horizon ridge, take a left
on HR. There's a good ditch about a mile down on the right and an even better one about three miles down on the left."
It had too much water in it when I was there though in March.

I'm in las Vegas for a few days, and was wondering if there are any particularly worthwhile ditches I should check out. I hit the Buffalo park and hulapai park today, and have 2 or 3 days open still to skate.
Any clues? Please email me at the above address.
Thanks!

Just kidding. RB on MD sounds awesome. We could get some out of towners in on it. Cool. K-Lee, I can find you a full face motorcycle helmet if you want one to use at the Bear.
I'm off to Pump Station.

Gumballs and Memorial Day

Gumballs, Bear '04, yes, that seems familiar. I stand corrected. Thanks George. OK, so it's either Flywheels, Gumballs, Avilas, or the new Strikers. My bet is on Strikers to win, and ABEC 11 for a podium sweep. Oh, Manx might be there too if anyone's riding Manx that are over 70mm.
RBBS on Memorial Day?!? Wow, what an excellent idea! Who's in? I'll set up the course either way. We should do an early start, around 10am, just in case people want to race but have to leave later that day. I need to get some stopwatches and walkie-talkies of my own..... $5 entry fee sound fair?
So, what's the deal with the outlaw races next month? Is the Bear still full-face-only? I may have to stand on the sidelines at that race and be a full time "helper". I don't have a full face, won't be able to afford one in the next month, and I'm not too keen on using the sweaty loaner-lid. Can I wear my multi-impact, high-density-foam, kevlar-reinforced kayak helmet at the IS race, or is that full-face-only as well? If someone cracks their skull at the Bear wearing a cheapo generic full face, then what? I saw a Bell full face that Paul had gotten for only $38. My kayak helmet cost closer to $140. Which do you think would protect my head better? Not that the Bell is crappy, but I don't see how it's "better" than my Greatful Headz helmet.
Anyway, for low key bust free "outlaw" banked slalom, come to Rio Bravo ditch on Memorial Day around 10am. Only a skateboard, $5, and a good attitude is required.
