Way to make the best of it, psycholoyd.
Trading in the rush of speed for the peace of mindfullness sounds like a real good idea while your healing.
I'm in a bit of the same boat - achilles tendonitis - if I push on the flats with my 'normal' push foot I reinjure it. So I gotta pump like crazy and push once in a while with my 'wrong' foot. I really need to take like 3 months off of my foot to let it heal, but that is so hard to do in the summer when the concrete is dry. Grr.

starting to feel a lot better these days, scabs are just discolored patches on knees and hands, and the push leg calf muscle is starting to gain some strength again. hadn't stopped riding the whole time so that i wouldn't loose the "feel". in fact i learned some things by goin' mongo and doing a little bit of switch but only on rare occasions as i don't want to bring on another set of injuries to complicate things.
started skating real slow when that was all i could do. now its starting to become a habit as i can enjoy all the sites along the way. one or two miles an hour sounds like such a snails pace but this also alows one to work on the subtleties of technique. found myself using luca's arm technique almost exclusively to see just what kind of effect it had on the ride. was totally surprised to see how much power one can derive from the simple swing (almost a a ridgehand choping motion) of the "back" arm while rolling along at walking speed.
so nice to observe birds 'n rabbits sauntering about as you cruise along silently in stealth mode. though i still can't get used to that faint smell of wood when you happen upon it on occasion.

It's a slow grind for trees, but once theve commited to it, you almost have to cut them apart to get them to stop. It looks like that guys bringing the wood. I'd let them finish.

...it was just too funny not to take that opportunity when it presented itself. only one or two will understand its significance but not to worry it was all in fun.
i also wanna mention that we will be racing at said location (grant park) on the 26th of june (weekend after this one). short notice but that's what underground racing is all about. if anybody's interested please do check on the events forum for details.

Wow it's great to see those pics of the wall in Chicago. I Lived in Chicago for 5 years and NEVER saw anyone take on that wall. I did not have the guts and I did not want to see my board fly into the lake. BTW are you guys having any trouble with those Chicago cops? Keep charging Chitown!

I really enjoyed the bike path and sidewalk action on the waterfront. I was there for the plastics show last summer and handily beat my co-workers to and from the hotel to the convention. For non-natives, you pass right by Shedd and the pictured area. The first day my co-workers were teasing me, until I kicked the 3 miles in 14 minutes, and was sitting at our booth for 20 minutes before they got there (bus in traffic). I'm pretty sure I bombed that steep sidewalk, there can't be too many like it, I just foot dragged at the bottom and turned it out.

if you look very carefully at the second shot you might be able to make out the 9' high wall with only 4' of transition at the bottom to vert and something like 1.5' on top going to 12 o'clock. once i post a closeup shot you will recognize how closely this resembles a wave. the only problem is that its curved away instead of bowled out like one would prefer making this is one of the most challenging rides around.
...in the near future i hope to have pictures of people riding these classic spots.

al,those are nice photos but you cannot lead these fine folks on.those photos show only half of it.how about the run cnova bombed.its a 200 yard walkway 8 to ten feet wide with an 8 to ten percent grade.you really cant carve to scrub speed,oh,i forgot to mention the near 90 degree right hand turn at the bottom.if you blow the turn, the railing will eat you.it spits you out at 25 to 30 mph.after that all you have to clear are the balliards 36 inches wide and not kiss the wall if you drift wide.that was probably one of the gnarlier things i have seen there.cf

one of these days when all the planets are in alignment i'll post a picture of cf riding the wall by the shedd aquarium. this thing has a steep transition and goes ov (over vert) but makin' it is tough because of the danger of losing it into the drink. now that i know that my board floats i won't be so afeared when i heal up enough to take the plunge.

friday was way cool.met up with the sidlos, hit skated columbus, which was closed for blues fest, lots of people slalom, then,to say the night watchmen rock is an understatement.all ending up with a steamin bowl of menudo.set me straight the next a.m..the sprogs had too much goin on the rest of the weekend, but this week will rock as i turn 40 tommorow(30 years ,4 decades of skating and still stoked as ever).i love the skateparks, love the banks and curbs, but speed,at night thru crowds and traffic and weather is unbelievable.might morph into some sort of urban g/s racing.cf

THANKS Lloyd!! that rules. I just sent ya an email..thanks so much! :)
This is the latest video I just finished. This vid is very special to me and I hope that everyone enjoys it.
The little guy in this video is my friend Tracys son. Brett is nine years old and had never wakeboarded or been on an Indo board. He came to wakefest and I took him over to the Indo board and showed him how to do it and off he went. Guess what he wants to do next..? yep! skateboard...gettin' him on my longboard this weekend!!
The video footage is from his second time wakeboarding, he was on the boat with Jeff Herr (driving us) and Chad Sharpe (hanging out) seven of our guy friends and myself! Brett stepped up and went (on a HUGE wake for the little guy) and tore it up! He gets out toeside and heelside and even gets some air off of 1 wake!! He was chargin it.
Brett has watched all the 420Empire videos and asked me to make one for him…(I had to comply cuz he tells everyone that I am his ‘girlfriend’) LOL I guess its kool to be someones first ‘crush’. Specially a kool kid like Brett!
Anyway, maybe this will inspire some other little guys and gals to get out there and wake…and have fun doing it!
Enjoy!

hey angi, drop me a shipping address and i'll send you some loose coin that i've got layin' around. i'll do one even better and send you some chocolate from belgium if you have a hankering for some.
i keep reinjuring this left (push) leg of mine and now its 'bout useless. think a little ice and rest is all that is gonna help it now. damn shame because summer is just starting to settle in for a spell.
sooooooo.... i was ona mission today. figured that i'm tired of loosin' skin on my knees and palms so i'm thinking about goin out on a limb and trying something contraversial. more on that later.
skated joke st. (oak st. beach) alone but not for long. she was there, a gymnast, a wonder to behold. the moment past and i was alone again, naturally. i rode away past the harley rider and passenger amazed at someone pumping uphill. took the "l" to taboo tabou for to get a second skin a toy for my honey...
...hmmmmm, what kinda trouble are we getting into tonite?

very resourceful hugh! i understand angi's plight because i also googled the phrase and got a bunch of gibberish not relating to it at all but maybe that's because i can't read or write in five different languages (quite the common skill here in the us).
and here i figgered it was because you were havin' yer son send you cigarette care packages from a broad. lucky you, i'm also gonna pack one o' my groovethangs so you can give it a twirl. just throw a set of trucks 'n wheels from one o' them starter pkg's you have layin' around or mix and max to your hearts desire.
what else can i say... ...oh yeah, kicked off the day on the "l" to the heartland cafe for some coffee ana smoke after muchin' on a turkey benedict (my idea of bein' on a health kick). too early for a shot of to-kill-ya in my caffine guess that doesn't happen till 'bout 11. skated home to the sounds of verve2 remix on my digisette which i had hyped up to 500 meg. not being able to walk so well but getting around very nicely on a skateboard reminds me of the condition i was in after one of my tours w/pepsi back in the day. oh well, got to get around somehow i guess.

good one hugh, you probably seen the sign. guess i was just trying to say that the smoke from the boat wasn't too healthy. but i got that dutch treat off of the warning on the sack of rolling tobacco that i purchased in holland (so who am i to talk). so as i promised you, hugh r, are the proud owner of one $20 and one $5 euro bills worth about $30 in usd. piddly amount wouldn't go far with tobacco so might as well spend it on somethin' else...
spent the afternoon skating w/smarsa at joke st. beach, nice 'n easy afternoon of carving and some cone. at one point in the conversation we came to the realization that i've been skating there for 30 years almost to the day.
all banged up from recent mishaps, pushing mongo, cause i strained my calf, getting chased out of millenium plaza last weak. rode the f#@! out of columbus ave. with sidlo1.0 (my older brother james) and cfavero as the soulful sounds of the blues fest set the tone for the ride. best part was how quick the dash out was when the monsoon hit right at the close. then back into "l" but not without hitting the lakeside lounge on the way home. big storms gathered as the night watchmen tore into some licks that quenched that craving for that surf guitar sound. she was there asking a freak brother why he didn't call, good cop bad cop she wasn't buyin' it. a quick home between the rain just made it much more special. a quick stop at the south of the border grill for menudo all the way around capped off the night as they skated to our separate modes of transportation. chris to the dragon wagon mcoupe and james to the blackmobile...
...and the weekend isn't half over yet!
