That Minor threat show was the best one I ever saw. The were on fire when they got back from that tour. Underground Soldier played that Rock against Reagan show on the mall. It was one of our first real gigs, and there we were in front of like thousands of people. I'll never forget it. The DKs show at Marving Center was awesome, cause we gave Jello a tape after the show, and the next day I get a phone call at work, and it's this guy claiming to be Jello Biafra, so I play along 'til I get bored and hang up. He calls backs insisting it's really who he is, so I say "Ok, sing me a verse of "Kill the Poor"" and he does. He wanted to see if we could be in Richmond that night to open for them. I said yes without asking anyone in the band, called Dug Birdzell, the bass player, and went to find Dan the guitarist who was at his landscaping gig. I drove all over McLean VA, and finally located him mulching some shrubberies in front of some swanky big house. He dropped his shovel, got in the car, and we made it there with like 15 minutes to spare. I was a HUGE DKs fan (their first show at 9:30 club in '81 is still the most intense show I think I've ever seen) and it was the highlight of my life I think. Punk rock and skating were the first things I'd ever done where I felt a sense of belonging as opposed to the opposite.
Oh...and at the DKs show on the mall, Jello pointed out that the Washinton Monument, with it's pointy white top and glowing red eyes looked like "the eternal klansman". Jello would have made the most entertaining politician...

Some of the best I have seen... anything at the old 9:30 club in D.C., Like... Minor Threat (Aug '82 when they got back from CA) Circle Jerks & Agent Orange (A.O. opened and closed the show) Killing Joke The Professionals (Steve Jones/Paul Cook from the Pistols... Jones kick me in the ass during a stage dive)
Dead Kennedys at GWU Marvin Center (w/ GI, Void, Artifical Peace, Double O, etc)
Fear at "The rock against Reagan"... aka "The Smoke-in", July 4 1982. All the major D.C. hardcore bands were there plus the Necros.
While I was in the Army, stationed in Munich, I went to many good shows... Black Flag at the London Marquee Club ('84 w/ Kira on bass) GBH, Vibrators, Nina Hagan, Killing Joke... again! mind going blank....
Now, for the metal... One of the best deals, even though I am into punk was the '84 Monsters of Rock held in Nuermburg. With the exchange rate, the ticket price was around $19.00. Here is the line up from start to finish. Motley Crue Accept Gary Moore Dio Ozzy Van Halen Ac/Dc what a deal!

some killer lineups there, ladies and gents.... glad to know that at least one B&N got copies!!!! concrete wave book is not out of print, skate legends book is the problem...if you can find that one, pick it up....it's a collectors item - the US publisher went bankrupt
so with all this talk of ultimate concerts, I wondered what you would consider your ultimate day (skate related...)
In the morning I'd skate New Mexico's ditches...in the afternoon I'd race La Costa and evening session at the Calgary Skatepark....
by the way, if you see CW on the newsstand, please buy a copy....or four!

Mark...saw the Cramps 2 weeks ago and they were ON! See them no matter what it takes.
My favorite X memory...back when Mustang Dave Alvin played guitar for them ('85 or so?) I saw them in Atlanta. After the show Dave and John Doe were hanging out in back of the club...my girlfriend and I spotted 'em as we were leaving and went over to say hi. We chatted for a spell, and they told us they liked to go to the titty bars in every town they hit. Like a fool I didn't take 'em up on it that night. What a story that would have been...a night at the Clermont Lounge with Dave Alvin and John Doe. Any of you Georgia people know what I'm talking about. Anyway, I wouldn't pass up a chance to see them again with Billy Zoom for all the tea in China. June 8th, I'm there...
