We often get visited by the cops when we slalom in hyde Park, central London. I've been challenged to a race, had a cop tell me we were "cool" and watched as they rode their motorbikes through the course. Also one told of a closed road we might enjoy. I think they realise that at our age we must be 'sensible' to a degree, and also its better for the park to be full of skaters than muggers. Ok, heres a question...any one else seen a bunch of kickyflippers in the distance and bombed past them at full pelt, putting the fear of God into them? Teee heeeee.

Skating forbidden terrain at night. Namely, Williams College.
"they finally paved that street.....cool!"...one of the best things that ever happens....a street gets paved, and skaters you didn't know existed come out of the woodwork....hence, a serious session.
Still, after all these years, finding virgin territory, and it turns out to be one of the best runs you've ever skated.
being 40+ and being seen with my longboard by anyone, and they look at me funny, (I laugh) or they say "wow! where'd you get that board?", or getting the thumbs up for having the ambition to get off thet couch at my age, even if it IS to ride a skateboard.
Getting stopped by the cops for cruising down Main street at night, and being told skating is not allowed, and watching the expression on their faces....you know they are thinking "aren't you kind of old to be doing that?" but they don't say it...it's priceless! Imagine what they radio back..."uhhhh we have 3 ummmm men riding skateboards down Main street......"

Michael, I'm dying here listening to all the great reviews of the latest issue. Michigan can't be that far away. I'm hoping it will get here this week.
Rich at Bulldog loaded me up with about 10 copies of the last issue so I have been sending them out with oders from my webshop, www.stillboardin.com

No problemo, Michael!
I had been checking in at the B&N for about 2 or 3 days in a row. Every time I went in I saw the Thrasher,Thrasher PHOTO ANNUAL, TWS and Skateboarder mags all stacked up out front with about 15 copies of each. The CW was in the back of the rack with 4 issues available. I promptly moved them out front right next to Surfer's Journal and explained to the store manager how for the past few days I have been tracking the progress of skate magazine sales from this B&N (this one is right in the center of the rich patitzer area of town) and have notice NOBODY is buying the THrashers and TWS and that if he would proudly display CONCRETE WAVE out front they would all sell. They did last month. I bet this B&N gets in 15 of each of the bigger mags and sells maybe one. The rest go to the shredder.
Keep publishing them, Michael, and I'll keep the retailers on their toes.

Michael, picked up the latest yesterday from the local B&N (how cool is that?), and I gotta say it really does keep getting better and better! Keep up the great work.
Simple joys:
Making the slalom course without hitting any cones after blowing out or plowing all day.
Hitting a local park and ENJOYING it after 2 or 3 unsuccessful attempts to get back into riding transition after 18 or 20 years.
Finding the latest issue of CW at the bookstore (or in your mailbox).

Jungle Jim stopped by OLLiewood and left a few copues there yesterday. Then last night while Team Pain was winding down and kicking back with some brewskies, we all thumbed thtough and we were talking about the good ole days of when we skated it all...slalom, street, pools, parks.
The mag bings it all back like when I used to get my latest Skateboarder. Great work Michael!
Oh, and those new Fibreflexs look killer! 33" and 31" with wood skin top? Need more info on those...

the mags are at Barnes and Noble. If you see it there, do me a favor and buy a few copies... also, if you see that CW has been pushed to the back, bring it forward...or use the Greg Stubbs technique and talk to the manager directly and tell them to put some focus on the mag! (thanks Greg!)
The mail...ah, the glorious post office. Well, for the next issue, I am going to send them out 2nd or 1st class. There's not much else I can do. 3rd class publications seem to be all over the map...how can California subscribers get them quicker than folks in Texas or New York? The thing was mailed from Maine... Don't worry, we DEFINITELY sent the mags...and if they don't arrive, let me know...I'll take of things. Promise.
My upcoming editorial is on Joy. Yep, the simple feeling of pure joy...
we need 20 ideas that are skate related that bring you joy...
examples... 1) finding a set of mint Bennett base plates on ebay... 2) bombing a hill, getting wheel wobbles and pulling out safely.
3) meeting one of your favorite skaters from a bygone era.
I know you have more...post em here...or email me. We need more!

Good Morning Michael - Greg Stubbs contacted me after I posted the NEWS earlier this week about The Holmes (possibly) be released TODAY! I'll try to get that interview ASAP. I was hoping to hear from Patch by now to try to get it done THIS weekend rather than trying to squeeze it in amongst all the swarms that'll be around him in H.B. next weekend at the World Cup event. It works out better for me that it hasn't happened yet because I am working round the clock to meet this DEADLINE for my FIRST COMPLETE SKATEPARK DESIGN.

Michael,
Just got a copy of V2,#1 (thanks, Gravity). Outstanding. Thumbing through the pages, I was transported back to the summers long ago when I'd read SkateBoarder with equal enthusiasm.
Keep up the good work. I'll be contacting you about ad rates...

firstly, thank you for your kind words.
secondly, only skateboard (or very closely) related companies can advertise in CW. This is my policy...and until Larry Flynt or Time Warner buys me out...actually...forget it....those guys have enough skateboard magazines!
this means.... no soft drink companies no car companies and certainly no zit cream companies we even don't solicit record companies (and we don't intend to put any music/lifestyle stuff in CW)
100% skateboarding.
I am grateful that the mags are finally trickling out there. US postal service is a nightmare sometimes.
We are working to improve delivery...CW whips have been purchased
All I can say is that if you like this issue, wait until you what' s cooking!
Barnes and Noble has the latest issue (with Jeff Budro on a blue cover)...buy it now for a pal...we do NOT sell back issues.
On another note altogether....
has anyone visited skullandboneskateboards.com? amazing forums... love to hear your opinion
cheers michael
