UKSSA AGM at EPIC

UKSSA agenda

This will be a chaired meeting to take place at Epic Skatepark 4th October 2003 at 3.00pm. If you are unable to attend I can table your comments. Only members can vote, but non-members can contribute to the debate. The aim is to make positive changes, not to just criticise the past. Bring solutions.

We need more people to help organise the UKSSA to make it a success, and to cover each other. Many of you noticed the drop off when I broke my wrist and was unable to do anything for a while. Having an "organisation" not matter how loose will enable use to write a constitution and then we can apply for grants. However these are normally required to be matched by other funding, so an income is needed.

Croydon Rocks!
On 9/24/2003 Mike B wrote in from (82.35.nnn.nnn)

Well, kinda. Anyway, for those of you with nothing better to do this coming Saturday night, there's an evening of skate-related stuff being held at Croydon Clocktower. Skate videos, beer and live music by the awesome Million Dead and Fletcher. Should be slightly more interesting than staying in to watch Pop Idol and Fame Academy on TV. Check the link below for further info:

http://www.croydon.gov.uk/ledept/clocktower/eventsdb/Media.asp#31072003153420

No doubt there'll be a bit of a flippety-flip session at the Fairfield beforehand.

PDC are holding an afternoon skate session as part of the consultation process for the new park (concrete and bowled!!!). At the side of the mobile street park there will hopefully be room for a small slalom course (20 cones max). The idea is to have something the kids can have a go on and try another side of skating. If you have kids and want to come along, or would like to come along and maybe share a few tips with the kids, pls do.

Fast Bearings
On 9/24/2003 John Skee wrote in from (212.159.nnn.nnn)

Hi ya,

I have on offer the following bearings:

T2 Pro Gold (abec 5) - Featuring the world's first glass-filled, silicon-injected, nylon retainers and state-of-the-art laser polished raceways, these are high performance bearings.

Pleasure Tool abec 7 - Steel balls, sealed (easy maintenance) bearings, what can I say. Fast.

Also I have the ceramics which are lighter, smoother, harder and have low friction. The ceramic balls are solid ceramic silicon nitride. Nice. This means that the ball exerts less force outward against the outer race grove as the bearing spins. This reduction in outward force reduces the friction and rolling resistance. The lighter ball allows the bearing to rev up faster, and uses less energy to maintain it speed. The more you use them the faster they get !

If you are seriously interested feel free to email me. Retailers welcome. Excellent prices.

Ride on,

John

While at work today I spied a pair of Camo Vans, And who should be standing in them but Noel Maher.
For those not in the know, Noel and his brother Peter where South Bank and LSD regulars back in the Eighties.
They both had a love of downhill and slalom.

Noel, if you go to the "Scans" forum under the Images section you'll find a picture of yourself from Skateboard Mag October 88, if memory serves correct. Enjoy mate.
Great to see you again we'll speak later.

Antibes
On 9/23/2003 Sam G wrote in from (193.203.nnn.nnn)

Thanks for asking Ed!

Call me shameless, but I skipped going through to the second round of each competition in order to head to the beach for ice-cream and to re-assure myself as to the correct layout of the feminine anatomy.

Reality? I'm vainly waiting for the results myself, but at a rough estimate the 18th/19th position looks tenable (fingers crossed). I seemed to lack the genius capacity to qualify that Jonny X showed with such flare; reckon as I've gotta dig me out some 25 year old Lazers to get through next time. Top racer!

Les autres? Paul Price generously kept an eye on me after my four hours on Friday lost and wandering in the Maquis, even to the extent of aiding my removal from the suspendered nun environment a moment before the abrasions on my dangling tongue wore through to the topside. ...and still he managed to slay the race-course with single-minded intent.

Michael Dong? Similar. Fast and analytical; he played the cat amongst the Italian pigeons ...and only a couple of years racing behind him. Some things are just plain wrong.

Which means there should be a good show in the US. Good luck to the UK guys (Paul, Michael & honorary Brit Michael D) at Morro ...and get the results back to us in Blighty damn quick!

The Octane jet is leaving tommorow morning via LA. Disguised as an American Airlines plane. I'd feel happier if they could actually afford to PAINT their aircraft.

Paul is going too. We are staying at Howards (3dm) lovely home (thanks!) and the best news is that the road outside is being tarmacked and is open for practice.

Also Sam Gordon went to Antibes, he's been on form recently so I'd love to know where he came.

And I have your DVD.

hey everyone i met this summer how are you!
i've just arrived in sydney OZ after a couple of months bouncing around, its been fun. never did make it to any of the Euro contests, now i regret it, but at the time I was so sucked into the norwegian fishing and kayaking thing, couldn't tear myself away!!
Here in Sydney the slalom scene is pretty nonexistent but there are some interested folks, so we're just getting a couple of spots lined up and the wiggling shall begin!
Hey, Paul Price, are you still in England? any plans to be in sydney? it'd be cool to meet up and set some courses, get the scene started.
i hope you're all well, thanks for the hospitality in may/june! you guys rock!
peace

ditch . calm down
On 9/19/2003 mat wrote in from (81.135.nnn.nnn)

I only asked as i was not sure how tight security is

I had no intention of going without checking first. It looks a open, deserted kind of area, but then looks can be decieving.

I personally know how hard it is to keep decent spots quiet and bust free, but then when i do find such spots the last thing i do is shout about it?!

I know that gennies and lights can seem overkill, but in rural, deserted areas we have got away with it and not destroyed a spot. Like I said, the pics looked (to me) as if the area was quiet. Thats why I asked.

no i agree lights and gennies are a no go. it is a bust at the moment anyhow and that sort of action will bring a little too much heat. it is a place that will be viewed by many but only ridden by a few. the photos wont do anyharm as long as it remains covert! infact i quite liked alot of the shots of that place. i know who took them and i will be hunting you down for some copies on sunday! so long and enjoi, those who know ,know and those who dont well . . . .
