Board Review
BMW
On 3/15/2001 Kanoa wrote in from (63.14.nnn.nnn)

Hey Dave, what are these new boards going to cost, about a grand? Do the new ones look any different or handle better then the stiff ride that our NCSA friend (Hugh) discribed?

Gravity 36" or 40"
On 3/13/2001 dough-boy wrote in from (64.180.nnn.nnn)

Hi all, I'm getting a park/bowl board, but can't decide on which to get. I'm looking at Gravity's 36" pool model, but I also have my eyes on the 40" Comp. I like the 36" because of it's old school feel, but I also like the idea of a longboard in the bowls. I currently ride a 46" as a cruiser/carve board, but I'm looking for something a little shorter for bowls. Any suggestions? PS, I suck at bowlriding, but want to get better.

at landy's website, there's a 58" board called the B-ride or fat boy. Im not sure which. It comes with Randall 2's and kryptonic wheels. Im a beginner and I like the board. Should I get it or one of the big guns or the chief? Im looking for a board to learn on and use for cruising.

Peace,
Mikeh

Snowboarding Carver
On 3/12/2001 Dave Hartman wrote in from (65.15.nnn.nnn)

You've got two interesting choices: The Freebord, which slides like a snowboard and has two middle rotatable wheels that allow riding fakie, 180's etc. or the Flowlab - a 14 wheel board that is built specifically for carving. Check out Freebord.com or Flowlab.com.

Snowboarding Carver
On 3/12/2001 JP wrote in from (206.189.nnn.nnn)

For a snowbaord carving deck, check out the Pumkin Superbow http://www.cloud-9.ch/pumpkin/indexeng.html (they will also be coming out with a new deck in a week or two.) Also, check out www.lanyachtz.com and see the chief, another great board!! The chief should cost about $160 (inc. shipping) and comes with Randal R-II's and Krypto 70mm wheels.

Any Ideas?
On 3/12/2001 Optimist wrote in from (64.12.nnn.nnn)

Im planning to buy a longboard within the next couple of weeks but I have no idea what type i should get. I need something to do during the offseason so basicly i want a board that similar to the sensation of snowboarding (carving). I weigh 130lbs and Ill probably spend around $200. Got any ideas? Thanks

BMW Streetcarver new info
On 3/9/2001 Dave Hartman wrote in from (65.15.nnn.nnn)

Here's the word from Bill Shrader of Knauz BMW in Lake Bluff, Illinois, after I send in an email asking what happened to the boards

good morning dr. hartman!! you spoke with me back in the late fall about the bmw skateboard. alex in sales has also checked with me on a weekly basis. o.k., heres the scoop. the gentleman in charge of bmws accessory program in the u.s is detlef kliene. i called detlef on tuesday morning asking him for an e.t.a. on this new product. i have
at least 12 boards sold whenever i can get them i told detlef. detlef called me back on thursday morning with both good and bad news. bad news first, the boards had to be re-engineered, modified or something in order to get them into the states. bmw a.g. prematurely announced their arrival to the press and now they are running for cover. the good news is the boards are expected to pass u.s. specs late this month and we should see them late in april to mid may. no definnite date alas. i do however have a new "toy" for both big kids over 21 and little kids over three. bmw now has a slot car track just like the ones we played with thirty or something years ago. the kit has 16ft of track with two f-1 team williams race cars. you should have heard my wifes
comment when she caught me trying to sneak it in the house.
please feel free to call me if i can help with anything in the interim. i will be ordering 18 boards on my initial order when they announce availability. thanks for your patience.

I wonder how a company that makes motorbikes, very fast cars some with open tops could be worried about the liability issues of a skateboard that you cant do anything on except carve! something doesnt add up and I dont mean the $500 price tag.
ps Ive remembered they just built a motorbike with a roof maybe theyre working on a sort of stand up skatecar!

G&S Blacktip
On 3/7/2001 hugh r wrote in from (205.216.nnn.nnn)

Mike,

The Blacktip is a very well built deck. Depending on the type of riding your going to want to do will decide if it's a good one for you.

I have found it to be at it's best as moderate to high speed carver (20 - 30 mph range) Flex is noticable but managable for us averaged sized guys and moderate for the little guys under 220 lbs.

If you hit the "search" page and type in "blacktip", you'll find a few entries where its praises are sung.

I consider it one of the better carving decks available... HR

DPQ complete
On 3/6/2001 Chris wrote in from (172.132.nnn.nnn)

I havent boarded for awhile and am lookin for an entry level board to get me warmed up again. I found what seems to be a pretty good deal a DPQ complete with abec-3 and worker trucks. To be honest I never heard of worker trucks Im more used to seein ventures and independents and never heard of the deck DPQ I used to ride an old school alien workshop slick like 5 years back. So is this a good board to buy for 33 bucks? I mean for a complete it sounds not too bad considering I would buy new decks 5 years ago for about that much or more for ones with graphic. Thanks
