Wheel hang can mess up handling and also tends to promote wheel bite, unless it's wayyyyy overhung, or on big mammajamma risers.. a half inch hang might not make it turn too bad....

Can someone explain to me why Bulldog's site says you don't want to have wheel hang? Is it a function or a style issue? I want to put no skoolz on my board, but with my wider trucks they will probably stick out about half an inch. So when you're looking down at the board, you'll be able to see the wheels a little bit.

I have a Comet Spoon/DH setup with Randal 150's and 70mm Krypto Hawaii K's. It's a fun ride, and I use to for almost everything. A change of wheels would allow for better sliding performance, etc. It's a very versatile setup--I've even used it at the local skatepark.

i am looking to set up a do it all board. i already have a set of free randals and bearings etc... and want a board that i can carve slide bomb on. i like my decks stiff for everything anyway. i thinking maybe a comet spoon? 44 inch.
i would probably only be able to use flashbacks with this board though? but i guess for sliding and bombing these or 76mm kryptos in red are the two best choices. will i be able to run the kryptos? will i need risers? any other more suitable boards?

I've got mine set up with Tracker 139mm Axis (RTX-like) with a single wedge up front, Tracker 139mm B-2 (RTS-like) mounted flat in the rear, and Avilas (76a/72a). The Trackers have the longer/stronger kingpins and the double Stimulators, a-la Bozi-style.
This is how I've always wanted a slalom board to feel like. None have ever come very close at all before this. It is officially a long-slalom board at 36", but personally, with my wide stance and big feet, I wouldn't shrink this thing at all in either dimension.
I haven't run a serious course on it, but it feels like it would give me the response I'd need to hit some cones. The turning radius is super sharp, it's probably the sharpest turning setup I have currently.
I have, however, taken it out for some serious ditch sessions. This thing flies down Indian School as fast as anything else out there. It even held it's own at the Bear, from the push pad. For both of these ditches, I'd much rather ride my Bozi Mad Bomber II for the stability factor. But just the plain fact that I rode the entire couse at the BEAR on what is effectively a man-sized slalom board still blows my mind. The camber almost bucked me off a few times at the kinky transition, but that would not be a problem if the camber was soggy. It's snappy and responsive which is great for slalom and city-cruising puroposes. The Bear just requires a specific type of board, that's all. I have been LOVING this thing for campus crusing. 1 week back at school and I've already ripped up campus on this thing. It fits under my desk better than my longer boards, holds speed well around campus (even on the steepest hills during the busiest traffic), and looks great while doing it.
My girlfriend put her's together in the "alternative set-up" with RII 150's and 75a Flashbacks. We've only taken that one out for a few test rides, but it seems to be just as grippy and responsive as you'd expect. The turning radius is a bit sharper than the Tracker version, but it sits a bit higher and feels a bit tippier this way. It's just the basic difference between Randals and Trackers though, nothing negative or bad in any way.
I'll give another report after I've taken it through some cones. I still would like to try some 135mm Seismics on it, as well as some of the 136mm Webbs (after they get the Monkeywrench Machine Works treatment, of course!) More to come.....

I think both of these boards are "flawed" if you are trying to ride them like you would your normal board. I know from experience that you ride the Floaded with your feet placed where you are supposed to (the wider sections) you can control the turning radius of the DCS truck in the front with the flex of the deck. If you are trying to bomb straight down hills or doing coleman's I'd look for another board. If you want to carve down hills and have the ability to pump those same carves along on flats, the Floaded is an incredible ride.

btw, i had a quick spin on nick crest's rolls rolls setup with giant rollerblade like wheels. I was very impressed with that setup, it just rolls and rolls. The deck is very light and stiff, with very nice dampening feel.

got a chance to test ride (on the flats) the carveboard stik and the loaded flowlab/reg. truck combo.
both have severe flaws IMO,
the carve board gives a turny ride using a rigid pivot light spring split axle truck, soft deck, overall reminded me of my torsion/R3 setup, i don't get the conical wheels, the rear truck should be dewedged. also the truck is way too wide, not good for flatland kicking.
the loaded flowlab thing, dissappointing, bouncy deck, rattling wheels, i tried some 180 coleman slide, i can feel the front slipping away.

Tima: If you're going from a 47-inch deck down to something closer to 30, I'd recommend the Landyachtz Mummy. It's about 33", beautiful V-lam wood reinforced with fiberglass and carbon, slightly cambered. It feels snappy and lively and responsive. It will perform so much better than a Flexdex there is no comparison.
Marc: Remember, the deck is only one part of a complete setup. Fibreflex does make great decks (I'd also commend Bozi, Afroman and Landyachtz, among many others). Randal trucks are probably the best all-round choice for crusing and carving, though there are many Tracker fans around here. Abec-11 Flashbacks are a great choice for wheels.
Support your local dealer if you can, but also take a look at the diverse offerings at solidskate.com, longskate.com and other specialized vendors listed on the Links page here. Depending on where you live, there's probably stuff that you just can't get locally.

I have the pro 41v and a 30 inch flexdex and they are both sweet rides. Granted I only weigh a buck thirty, I experimented with different truck base lengths and I have no problem with the flex. I would recommend a flexdex if you can find one, the only drawback is that they weigh a ton.

I have 2 flexdex 1 is a 60" kelly slater in wood and teh other is a extruded fibreglass cutaway the fibreglass boards are too flexy and I dont like them I can bottom it out just carving hard. for carving get a G&S Fibreflex

Heading to Louisville to skate in a few weeks. Quick question for the group. I'm in the process of setting up a new deck, and I have the following dilemma.
I ride the Black Label DP board 10" wide model, not the 10.5". I wanted to try the Bulldog Shogo conical wheels, along with some big old Indy 215's.
I put this deal together and the truck/wheel combo is huge! The wheels stick out past the board rails, like a slalom setup gone wild! I didn't realize how wide the Shogo wheels are. I'm thinking a 12" wide board, or smaller trucks may be a better choice. I'd prefer not to buy another board, but I'm open to ideas.
I have some Indy 166's I could use, but I still get some wheel overhang. The memory may be bad, but I seem to remember my old boards, having a pretty balanced truck wheel layout, in regard to the board width. I'm going to try this setup on some ramps to see how it works.
I looked at some of my old setups in the garage, and the only one that looks off balance, is my Vision Mark Gonzales, which has Indy 169s and Madrid Fly wheels. The wheels stick out slightly past the board rails.
Comments and thoughts appreciated!
