I'm a newbie. At the moment i'm in search for a longboard. I'm into just cruising, not so much on doing tricks. I could really use some advice. I'm thinking about getting this hobie board at my local sports chalet but i dunno if it's dependable. hope to hear from you guys soon.

This deal was just too good to keep to myself. If you guys want a pair of baku trucks go to overstock.com They are selling thie venom complete with the trucks for 45 bucks and the kicker is they have 1 dollar shipping right now. So everything shipped for abut 46 bucks. The trucks themselves are worth about the same as that. Check it out fast before the shipping goes back up...

Do the wheel wells work with that setup?. When I fitted Randal IIs to my old sector 9 I had to move the trucks an inch nearer to the ends of the board to put the nose and tail back to a sane length and make the wheels not miss the wheelwells completely. It seems unlikely that a 36" board would have wheel wells designed for use with Randals.

Howdy,
Jim, DEFINITELY look at the Bulldog Skates line of decks!
You may want to check out either the Bulldog model or
the Ray Flores model. Also, check out the Bulldog Skates
Double Conical wheels in 94 durometer, they are excellent
wheels, and quite possibly THE BEST all-around wheels
out there.
Skaterbuilt decks would be my second suggestion; only because
a 12" wide deck may be a bit intimidating if you're just getting
back into it. Skaterbuilt also makes a 10" wide deck as well;
Skaterbuilt decks are bullet proof and the concave is a thing
of wonder! LOL
For trucks, I suggest Webb trucks, but also suggest you check
out Tracker trucks as well.

Jim -- Since you are an oldschool rider try something from Bulldog skates. Mellow concaves, long wheelbases. Probably want to get some softer wheels to control your speed and switch to harder wheels after it all comes back to you.

I'm an "older"(40+)longboarder who now takes the kids to the skate park regularly. They are always trying to get me to ride one of their popsicle boards for a few laughs. Unfortunately,I am old enough that I missed out on the whole short board movement. Now I am willing to humor them by trying some very easy stuff in the park (if that is even conceivable?). I'd like some recommendations about park setups for an old fart who is a newbie. I suspect I'm looking for a "stable setup".I probably want a wider longer board with a generous kicktail. Any specific ideas about which deck to buy? What size wheels and durometer would be easiest to learn on? Thanks!

I've been riding my pintail for about 8 months and have conquered evry hill in my town with it. It rides smooth and gives total control to the rider. Great for experienced and beginning riders.

did anyone ever hear of Gonzo Longboards?Their selling on ebay a new handshaped hardwood 48" board with mahogany stringers & nose & tail guards. exkate trucks & exkate wheels. I bought it for 148.00 Does it sound like i overpayed? To me it looks & sounds like the old REALWOOD brand boards. thanks joe

Before you drop the 150 (which is typical and worth it for the right set up) spend a little time on this forum. I agree with Joe - there is good stuff on ebay. However I would look for a complete with the stuff you want on it. I agree on Randals and Exkates - very different trucks but both great in their own way. I would also shoot for Abec 11 Flashbacks for wheels.

Hey newbie.
Welcome!
There are always some good boards on ebay. I just saw a Landyachtz Chief with Exkate trucks, a few Fiberflex's, some Original 47" supercarve boards and some Soulcarvers. Look for a board with randall or exkate trucks. If you're light, look for a thinner flexier board. If you're gravity challenged, look for something thick and stiff. Stay away from anything with Pivot trucks.

the s9 concave deck is a great
deck ...the "bomb hills" board is
essentially the same as the classic
s9 concave pintail it just differs
by having more angular cutaways and
of course the killa graphics!
this deck is also essentially the same
shape cut & *concavity (hey english teachers
make up words all the time!)as the fabled
arbour pintail which has recently garnered
some rave reviews ~ though neither s9 offering
is as aesthetically pleasing to the eye as the
rich hardwood grain of the arbour!
the point i'm making is you have one of the finer
general purpose downhill carving decks available
w/the randals you only increase the *carvability
of the deck and step deeper into the soul and the
essence of longboarding ...there are other trucks
which carve well but the rII's are right on the money!
upgrades ~ get some flashbacks!! 75 or 78 duro
seriously... get some flashbacks > they rage!!
also look into some softer bushings like the bones
hardcores blues or tracker superball blues or the
tracker stimulators yellows!
get out & carve it up!! ~ monson

Joe,
Randals are the staple for longboards, especially a 46" board. Not being familiar with their infamous "Pivot" trucks, I have to go on what I've read on NCDSA, and my experience with Randals...I'd say it's a huge improvement.

They are about the same size as a Tracker 184, basically a 10" axle rather than the 11" that '215' implies. Quite how Indy get away with their insane numbering system I don't know...
