Flying With A Longboard

When flying with a longboard, at check-in tell the airline agent it's a snowboard or snow skiis, and they won't charge "oversize" fees. If you say it's a skateboard, then yer gonna get stung, because skateboards aren't in their oversize baggage policy.

Can anybody help me out here. I have a 40" pintail with 70mm wheels on 8.5" Exkate trucks. I can seem to keep the wheel nuts tight when I start carving. They slowly loosen up and I'll soon have about 1/8" moved on the axel. How do I keep those wheels tight?

Despite temps hovering close to 100 everyone whipped out the longboards for the final division at the Arlington,VA skate park....the skating was hot, to say the least. Nono pumped some sweet speed lines and slides and Eric sported some nice frontside rocks and full bertleman slides. It was awesome to see Ben Hatchell return from Texas as pulling off a Phillips 66 in the big bowl....more to see at this Saturday's(8/5) Frederick MASS Contest.

Matt, buy or make some slide gloves...when you get going quick, drop into a squat and use your trailing hand to scrub the speed of. applying the plastic puck to the street surface..how much pressure you apply will determine how fast you slow down...if it doesn't work, you don't have as far to fall and at least the slide gloves will keep your wrists ffrom breakin lol...if you're standing, you can 'air break' some of it off...imitate a crucifixion pose...turn your torso fully face forward, arms outstretched and let the wind catch on your t-shirt or jacket...that sometimes has a very minimal affect though if you're going fast....so back to the "squat n drag" method...

Easiest way of stopping or slowing down is by dragging your foot, padded knee, gloved hand or by carving thats my personal fav. If you think your speed is to fast tighten your bearings then loosen them as you get used to the speed your comfortable with.

I've been building longboards for some time now. my suggestion would be to use a acrylic clearcoat arasol spray to protect your board paint. you can but it in many types of sheen and the acrylic is water based for easy in application and clean up. if you want instructions on how to properly apply this to your board resulting in a professional finish, just email me.

Longboard Paint

I just bought a 38" sector nine cr2b. It's a great board and I've had tons of fun on it but, the paint chips off extremly easly(running your finger nails over it will cause it to chip.) The guy at the skateshop said the paint should only come off if I've left it outside in the rain but I never have. If anyone has an idea about why this happens or if there are any products to stop the paint from falling off please leave a post. Thanks, Patrick

I just got a 46" Longboard and I'm trying to figure out how to take it with me when I fly somewhere. I don't think they'll let me on the plane with a board that big. Any suggestions as to what to pack it in if I have to check it?

I own 3 pintails. Great cruising boards. I cruise & commute with them & I'm over 40 ;) Every morning I cruise to the Barber shop 11 blocks on a longboard * Yes I'm a Barber* My son & I own a skateboard shop in the same building also . So all the young guys that hang out at the Barber/Skateboard shop look at me as an old school rider. I use 70mm & 66mm with risers. I really get the looks from all the non skateboarding parents in town. Never too old to go boarding. Otter

A good all around wheel for cruisin is e.g. a flashback. The diameter is 70 mm. You have to mount the trucks and the wheel and check the clearance between wheel and deck with full tilt angle. If there is no space, you need risers. If there is space and you get wheel bite, you need more risers or harder bushings.
