depends: if you are going verry fast you will have to shift your weight more to front truck. Best is to take a look at some longboarders videos and check ther riding techniques, you will find a few videos here and a lot more using google.

There is no advantage in having a pintail except the beauty of a nice cut. The disadvantage is heavyness. I personally prefer boards with a kicktail, because of their manoeuvrability.

Not a real longboarder, but in my opinion, risers high don't depend on board lengh but on: - type of trucks. Revenge for example don't need risers at all (with wheels under 76mm)when Original really need some (they are sold with the trucks). For "classical" trucks or Randal type, it's depend if you set them loose or not... - wheel size and type (centerset, sideset, offset) - board width - wheelwells or cut out The real question is : - what's your riding style => what wheels and trucks do you need => what risers do you need. I know, this answer won't help you a lot, but you will have to considere all this facts.

I just bought a new 55" longboard for cruisin', but I haven't ridden a lot before now. I have a few days to learn, then im taking it to the Bahamas. I need to know what the best riser and wheel sizes are for a board that long, and also any helpful advice from a real longboarder might help. THANKS!!

Taylor -
invariably, someone like John will come along and tell you the things he did - carve, slide, adjust your wheels - without telling you the most important thing. If you are uncomfortable going fast (or just trying to go faster) DO NOT GO FASTER THAN YOU CAN RUN OFF! It saves a LOT of skin.
Good luck, skate safe.

the 3rd BDS East Coast Jam, held today at St Mary's Skate Park in southern Maryland. Peeps from many states: NY,NJ,PA,MD,VA,SC,NC,GA,KY...came out in droves to skate the concrete waves here. Lots of BDS Longboards were ridden. The cloverleaf pool was getting worked left & right....even a few of the newest 44" Bulldog Skate decks were set up & ridden. Good times were had by all. Longboarding is alive and well on the east coast!

Dont start off on the big hills...work your way starting w/the small hills first....several ways to control your speed: by carving, by sliding while standing up, by sliding while dragging your hand&/or your knee(wear Pads & gloves), by foot-dragging, by tightening your wheels so they spin less, then loosening them as you get comfy w/that speed....others may be able to give you even more info...but that's a start. Good luck and skate safely!

i wanted to know how does one stop/slow down while going down hill on a longboard? i live in san fran and its difficult for me to ride comfortably b/c im always worried that i will pick up too much speed and will not be able to control my board. ive only been skating for about 2 months and i dont know much about the sport. it was a gift but i really dig it and want to get better/more comfortable while riding. hope someone can lend some advice.

I'm going to do another set of Downhill Diva clinics the last saturday of July, August and Sepetmber - females only. Skills covered will be foot braking, slalom, sliding and basic downhill. Theses clinics are outlaw, free and after 20 bodies sign-up, closed; bring your own gear/snacks, no fear and a good attitude. Guys, pass the word to your females.

I saw the LUSH Kishima, a bamboo vert-lam board, drop through. I have never even seen a drop through board in person. I think the Comet Voodoo would be the most conventional, the Loaded Vanguard for carving, the Kishima is supposed to be good for cruising/speed, and much easier to push.
Can you carve on a drop board? Easier to push distance sounds good to me. Feel free to drop in your comments about any other boards that are bamboo, good for cruising, carving, and can still handle a hill with some aplomb. I imagine the Lush would be best on hills?
Do any of you have a bamboo Voodoo?
Thank you for your input.

Comet vs Loaded

If you want to do deep, mellow carves go for the Loaded Vanguard as nothing is like it's springiness in a carve. If you want more speed, or lots of pop, go for the much stiffer Comet Voodoo. Cost considerations also come into play as the Voodoo is half as much as the Bamboo vanguard... of course I chose the Bamboo Vanguard myself.

I have been on the loaded's and they seem to have it down. I came close to buying the vanguard with randal's but I stepped on a board with the revenge trucks and haven't looked back. They carve like no other. My deck is 44" and running 70mm's with no risers and can carve a 180 in under 8 feet depending on speed with no bite!!. It's like 4 wheel steering.
Good luck

Has anyone ridden a Loaded Hammerhead? I read two posts that say it is the "Future of Skateboarding". I am debating buying a Comet Voodoo, Vertlam-Bamboo, carbon fiber 38" board, w Randal 180 trucks and Gumballs, or a Loaded Vanguard, Revenge trucks, Gumballs, 42" inch board. I have a Sector Nine 34 " Cosmic One w Randall 150's and Pink Powerballs (feels squirrely on faster hills), and a 46" EGI very firm board w Randal 180's and GOS wheels (feels very calm on fast hills).
I am not a hill bomber but live in a home in the hills. I especially love to carve and pump, and love smooth parking lots (even one story ones!)
I am leaning towards the Comet because I have read good things about that company, and it seems to be a good in-between of what I already have. I want an all around board that feels secure on longer steeper hills, but still a good cruiser and parking lot board.
Any ideas and especially comments about the hammerhead would be appreciated.
I am a 50 year old skater, started w steel wheels 45 years ago.
I have young children and cannot buy two boards at this time. If you think the Hammerhead is the 8th Wonder of the World, let me know, I might get it instead.
Thanks for your help!
