15th Jam In Statesville
On 1/10/2005 North Carolina Longboarder- DownHill Billies wrote in from United States  (166.82.nnn.nnn)

Lenny,
Stoked to the max. I took this weekend off to recover from my wisdom teeth surgery gone bad and am ready to ride. Talk to you later in the week.

Dankdownhiller: Dude, got your messages but I was jacked on pain killers and totally out of it. Spent almost all of Saturday lying around the house in a stupor. My wife took my mobile phone away from me so I didn't get your message to late yesterday. Hope you guys had a great time. The weather was awesome again. Looks like it s going to get colder this weekend but Saturday should still be ridable. Hope you guys are still up for it. Hopefully my mouth will be better.

Talk to you later.

Bandy's Bust And The Spot on The 15th.
On 1/4/2005 North Carolina Longboarder- DownHill Billies wrote in from United States  (166.82.nnn.nnn)

Dankdownhiller: Dude, got your message on my phone today..I had dropped it and it just is not working all that well. Saturday spent the day doing carpentry work at my Dad's house and stopped by the spot on the way home but must have missed you guys.
Sunday I went down to SC to get schooled in slalom by Wesley Tucker at Exit 46...man, dude, I sucked! Geeez! But what the heck. I stopped back by the spot on the way home hoping I would catch you guys there while I had my boards with me so I could ride something I could do but missed you guys again.
Bandy busting with no pads and no helmet is in Cartman's words " not kewl".
Guess we are going to have to put the peer pressure on him for that...I am going to making a new batch of slide gloves this week so ask Bandy if he wants a pair.
Dude, the weather still is awesome...think you guys might be up to a night session Thursday? I can't get away during the day any this week.

The 15th is on. I have a call into the developer. We should have a good mix of the slalom dudes and longboarders so there will be skating of all types going on. My guess is Tucker from SC will be focused on slalom, while the boys from WV will be up for it all. Holler at Bandy, Darron, Rookie, and anyone else and let them know about it. I will hook up with Shannon, Justin, and Evan. The way I think this thing will shake out is having the cones set up for those slaloming and the carving/bombers doing there thing. I am going to bring my quiver so anyone wanting to ride the Green Latern, the Bozi , the Slider, etc. can use it. I am going to slalom, slide, carve, bomb, and freakin just hang out!

I will call you later...things have been crazy the last several days. Think I am going to go slide up town tonight depending on how my mouth feels. It hurts like a SOB because I washed out the stitches too fast.

Roll on Dankster!

Lots of longboarders skating the last Vans session...
On 1/3/2005 John Dillon, Team Fun wrote in from United States  (151.200.nnn.nnn)

The 4-6pm session at Vans(the last session), Potomac Mills...had plenty of longboarders representing. From the intense big pool jam to the banked slalom soul trains and lil bowl runs and half-pipe action...everywhere you looked you noticed someone having fun not on a popsicle stick. lbk pulled out a fat f-side big-a** sparkler grind in the big pool....nearly caught my shorts on fire as he whizzed past me. His bro James was busting handplants on his Gravity LB...Nino, myself and the Richmond Boyz were all busting slides...when the cops came to shut down the session, that's when I got my best run in the lil pool. The only board to be on is a longboard! RIP

Happy 2005 To The World Wide Skate Community-
On 12/31/2004 North Carolina Longboarder- DownHill Billies wrote in from United States  (166.82.nnn.nnn)

I want to wish a most happy, fulfilling, blessed, and joyful New Year to everyone in the great Skate World of ours. My prayers for 2005 are that you, your families, and your friends find 2005 as special year filled with all of these things.

Let us all keep in our thoughts and prayers the victims and survivors of the terrible tsunami that has decimated South Asia. I encouraged all of you to make a donation to the relief agency of your choice no matter how great or small. Every dollar will help, even if you only sent $1. This tragedy is by far the largest disaster of this type I have heard of in my 42 years on this planet and I pray that no one has to witness such a horrible loss of life ever again. According to most recent reports the death toll is well over 100,000 people and will grow exponentially if relief does not arrive soon.
The one thing that I have learned from posting and reading on NCDSA and Slalomskateboarder.com is that we are a community of people who care about one and other deeply and for our sport. Let's us as individuals take a minute to look into our own souls and do what we fill is appropriate to help these people who have had such devastation. Regardless of our different spiritual beliefs we are all part of this race we call human. Please do what you can no matter how great or small. I am small business owner and I am currently reviewing the different relief organizations and plan to pledge part of our proceeds on a monthly basis throughout 2005 to their efforts.

G-Flash: reedin riten and rithmatic don't matter none to no DownHill Billy! All we 's a doin is skatin man!

Seriously, The DownHill Billies are going to try to meet whenever possible. I am hoping that this summer we can do something maybe a little bigger that includes a trip to the new skate park in Charlotte if it happens to be open by then...

Speaking of brewskis, the owner of the local sports bar is going to bring his son out to to watch the skating so he can show him another side to the sport. If we put on a good show, the first round Saturday night could be on him....(now that is wishful thinking). Most DownHill Billies have the philosophy that they never met a free beer they didn't like!

Talk to you soon. Later Dude.

Statesville DownHill Billies Jan 15th Skate Jam
On 12/28/2004 North Carolina Longboarder- DownHill Billies wrote in from United States  (166.82.nnn.nnn)

DownHilll Billies and Any One Else Interested (All Are Welcome):

The Statesville Skate Jam (Slalom, Carving, and what have ya) will be Saturday January 15th.

Arrive at my house any time in the morning and we will look to head out to The Spot at Noon.
(Drop me an e-mail for directiions to my house).

For those of you who have not seen them yet go to the link below to see where we are planning to ride.
http://photobucket.com/albums/v329/DownHillBillies/

The local crew is mostly into carving and bombing but are stoked to have the slalom crew in for a jam. The format will be that there will be no set format and we will just skate, hang out, take pics, and just get to know each other. I am hoping that it will also be a chance for us newbie slalomers to learn something and practice..

I can host up to 5 or 6 at my house for any of you who want to stay over Saturday night if you don't mind crashing in the basement. As I have said before, my house is within walking distance to a great sports bar, pizza place, chinese takeout, subshop, fancier restaurants, etc. so that night we might all mozy down to the local sports bar to hang out and grab some grub.

I look forward to meeting my new skate buds in person.

downhill is a distant memory, so the bowls will

Longboard Decks w/ Concave
On 12/25/2004 Henrik wrote in from Hungary  (195.56.nnn.nnn)

Hi all. Happy Holidays. I've got a question on what people are running for longboard decks with flex AND concave. We've been running FiberFlex Funshapes, and they're great, but a little concave would be good for a little more secure footing. Any suggestions? I'm running ABEC 11 Flywheels (83mm, 75a), Exskate trucks, and Curve bearings. In Boulder, it helps to have a fiberglass laminated board, since regular plywood boards warp like crazy in the dry weather. Thanks, H www.curveinc.com

Bongs and Billies?
On 12/24/2004 North Carolina Longboarder- DownHill Billies wrote in from United States  (166.82.nnn.nnn)

Everyone is asleep now at the house but me in anticipation of the coming gift unwrapping free-for-all that is Christmas morning at our house and I thought I would check in here.

Joseph: To answer you question, the word billies is just a part of the word Hillbilly, which is basically anyone from a mountain region that sees him or herself as good ol downhome folk. The Beverly Hillbillies, Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs, drinkers of Mountain Dew (and I am not talking about the soft drink), Junior Johnson, are all examples of Hillbillies. As far as the bong reference, I imagine at one time of some of the members of the DownHill Billies lives, a bong may or may not have been a part. LOL

Merry Christmas Joseph! (a very appropriate name for this time of year-One of the most unselfish men in history.)
