Back Foot Only! (for standup)
On 7/2/2004 roger wrote in from (130.166.nnn.nnn)

If you are a mongo pusher (push with front foot), you really need to learn to push using your back foot, then learn to brake with it. It takes a while for it to feel natural, but it is very much worth it.

Bulk Leather??
On 7/1/2004 Myrran wrote in from (67.116.nnn.nnn)

Does antone know a website i can get bulk leater from to make my own cheap leather reinforced pants!!??
This is a great idea cause i am far 2 poor to be buying leathers and am looking for a higher comfort level than tight leather pants. I'm also so ridden with scar tissue that now with the slightest bump my skin has the tendency to "rub" off.
the ones in the pic a couple posts down look kinda like what i am envisioning but i am open to all ideas.
Has anyone else made somthing like this?? Thanks!!!

fat ass pants
On 7/1/2004 sam wrote in from (194.230.nnn.nnn)

LOL! yes, i had the same problem too, so i just glued up the leather of almost half a cow, it covers my hips and ass completely and works very well. but for the next time i'll make the pieces a little smaller, the look is just 'super-fat-ass-like'...
it's much more comfortable than tight leather pants

man, i thought people will be amazed of the pic and now it seems that they're 'just' amused... hehe

ride hard, sam v.

2-handed slides are sick, even more so at 35mph+.
ok HC, i'll try to learn those supaflex slides, but we will need loooong boards, i think its all about putting all your weight on the front.

dunno if you noticed last time we skated, but i learned how to do those slides sergio yuppie does when he bends both his knees to where they are almost touching the ground. you have to be somewhat flexible to do those! not very good for the knees..

On 6/28/2004 everett wrote in from (12.7.nnn.nnn)

yeah you are totally right i goofed that one it was the two handed one that i like the best just cause the speed you do it at is very impressive. it would be one thing just to go fast and huck it but i remember the slide i did in front of you two weeks ago and looking back to see your two hander...very impressive. don't know why i said rail grab but hey mistakes happen. miko don't worry about being out i feel you. i still have my sprained right big tow (hey its only been a month and a half) and a cut right at the pinky toe of the same foot. HC, have been peeping your website for a couple of days and am stoked on it. i love the interview with presidente coleman. although my damn computer wouldn't load that french video you were talking about but i am trying a different computer tomorrow to see it for sure. but that garage was super fun.

S.J. Wednesday...
On 6/28/2004 Miko wrote in from (69.19.nnn.nnn)

Hey David, Everett, HC... (others?!)

It's always a treat watching you guys freestyle sliding on your short boards. Someday I'll learn to do some of that stuff!

As for wednesday, I'm feeling pretty crappy right now, and am thinking I may be smart to rest. I've done about 4 slalom sessions since we rode, and surfed today... Now I'm feeling really bad! 8-) Rest needed!

David - I got my Icaro and it's sweet... We'll have to do some drafting tests with it and trade to see if there's a change in the results next time.

I'll call or shoot out an email tomorrow night if I'm feeling better, but at this point I think I'm out for a few days.

On 6/28/2004 david wrote in from (165.247.nnn.nnn)

me and everett discussed this last time(and first) we skated together he was saying he can't do heelside 360s, and i said i can only do heelside 360s, i have a hard time doing toeside 360s even though i can toeside pendulum just fine. hey everett, some to the berkeley hills sometime, slide fest galore!

i think HC was one of the 1st people i saw do a coleman slide. now i can smoke him down any hill..hahaha just kidding man

i just got a job don't know if i can make it down to san jose this wensday

360 slides
On 6/28/2004 everett wrote in from (198.81.nnn.nnn)

yeah those videos plus flow should pretty much do it for you. i just watched sergio's san fransico in 1/16 speed to see what it was all about. as far as learning it on a hill or flat ground i couldn't really tell you. it took me a day of sliding (3 or 4 hours) to learn how to do them but i ate some fat piles of s#@! in the initial attempts. the only con to a hill is that if you don't do it at lightning fast speeds (the spin i mean) you normally get pitched in the air backwards (on the toeside 360), land on your butt and stop dead cold in your tracks. i still have some of the scars but whatevas. If you do it HC's way on a flat surface, just make sure you are going a good speed so kick a lot before you attempt it. if you get the heelside down let me know cause i have only made it twice and its the most frustrating trick attempt i have done. the only other thing i can say is hard wheels. Bones team 61mm/97a or sergios 60mm/99a (which i recommend). good luck and be prepaired to fall but it will pay off.

yeah hc- while we are in the compliment zone, your rail grab pendullums are... ridiculous to say the least

360's
On 6/27/2004 hc wrote in from (68.125.nnn.nnn)

mike, first learn to slide toeside and heelside.
you can't get by with only toeside (you need to see where you are going).

you can do 360's from heel to toe or toe to heel.
the other way is the 'supaflex' way (see their mpegs)

videos are helpful for learning those 360's.

Bones Brigade Video Show - three sliders
Future Primitive - sliding around corners
Animal Chin - check slides
Public Domain - Stacey sliding

Gravity 'Flow' - great sliding footage

BTW, I learned 360's on the flat with a short board.

Everett, dig your 360's.

360 slides
On 6/27/2004 everett wrote in from (198.81.nnn.nnn)

pretty much what you want to do is put your uphill hand down first and right when it touches (depending on speed) the ground put your other hand down. this will two handed for only a fraction of a second because when the second hand touches you want take your first hand off again and lead the spin of your body with the outbound hand. if that helps.

I was just wondering how people pull off 360 slides. I can slide but I can only get the board to go 180. Any advice? Btw, I ride goofy and always slide toeside.

The World's very best slider!
On 6/24/2004 Cliff Coleman wrote in from (209.148.nnn.nnn)

Thanks for the respect Marcos. I, like you feel that Sergio Yuppie is the very best that I have ever seen. He is like a son to me. I feel like all sliders are part of my family. The Brazilians are very good!

There are also sliders that have never seen the lime-light living and sliding all over the planet. I was in England recently at an event put on by the guys a "Lush Longboards". I expected that the level of expertise would be for most at a novice level. I was wrong! Many great sliders live in England. Especially the guys from Cornwall. Yes I will never forget how they blew me away with such great sliding.

My goal is to travel to skate and teach slide techniques around the globe. This way I can live out the rest of my life skating with and meeting as many of you as possible.

My next trip takes me to Tazmania and Australia. I hope to teach clinics in Sydney and in Queensland during the month of Sept.

Female sliders
On 6/21/2004 Leo wrote in from (200.84.nnn.nnn)

you have to see or girls sliding!. here in Venezuela we have pretty good sliders. the main problem its that non big sponsor has come to see us, nor none of us (except the former girl champ who moved to tha states) have travelled to show or skills.

i would love to see the brazilians sliding, for me they are the best, ale maia, yuppie and many many others who didnt got lucky or havent been discovered.

anyone have a video of yuppie making a superman? i have a one flick of one teammate of team speedmasters doing a 180 superman slide.

Isabelle---ultimate setup??
On 6/21/2004 eastcoastslider wrote in from (66.130.nnn.nnn)

Hey Isabelle.....i've seen your gravity vids and your slides are awesome!! I was wondering if you could give me some insight as to the best setup for some rad sliding. I'm not a beginner I just want to try sliding with some new gear. I'm trying to decide if i want the 47"hypercarve or the mini-carve. Which board is your favorite to slide??Also i am pretty lite, i weigh 110 and am about 5'1inches tall which i find often has an effect on the decks i use. also what wheels do you find slide the best? what trucks do you use???
thanks:)

sliding the dh
On 6/20/2004 Ryan 'VA' wrote in from (66.239.nnn.nnn)

Airin, i think you'll enjoy sliding alot more on the DH. to me, it's a little more comfortable, and easier to control than a higher mounted deck. this is just personal opinion, and there really isn't a huge difference in sliding it than any other deck. Enjoy the ride, what're you puttin on it?
