stickers and labels
On 7/15/2003 hugh r wrote in from (205.216.nnn.nnn)

I just received my first batch of custom hugh308.com stickers and labels from Ed at PT Bearings! I'll be posting up some pics real soon.

Best things were:

*No set up fee's (Zero dollars, nothing, nada)
*He used my 300 dpi art work and charged nothing for sizing and fitting and such (zero, nada)
*He charges nothing to cut the stickers to size, regardless of how many per page there are
*The are very inexpensive and there are no large quantities to buy (I did 5 sheets worth on my first order)
*He will work with you as much as is needed to come up with stickers/decals that work for you
*High quality nylon stock

I am sooooo thrilled to have found a company who will run any size lots of these at such low prices (around $3 a sheet or so) and with NO SET UP FEE!

This service is not on his site yet, so email Ed for paticulars... think of it, have your own personal stickers (I do!) HR

Glucosamine
On 7/15/2003 Sam Gordon wrote in from (193.203.nnn.nnn)

I've been using the Healthspan Product in my bearings for about three years and I haven't had to change a single pivot pin, despite the doc saying I should always sit with my legs stretched out cos'f cartilege damage in the knee from push-biking. And that was back in '83. 1883 feels like.

On a different tack, if you want to give yourself the best hangover in the world then take Creatine and go boozing. I'm no scientist, but after a small experiment I won't be taking that suppliment again!

GLUCOSAMINE & CHRONDROITIN
On 7/10/2003 G7enn wrote in from (81.132.nnn.nnn)

I'd just like to thank whoever it was who reccomended this a few months ago. It's made a huge difference, I hadn't even realised just how many of my joints were starting to get painful. My knees, ankles, neck and wrists are all completely twinge free now, and that's on only half the reccomended dose of Osteo biflex as I can never remember to take the second pill. I hadn't realised that joint pain had become the limiting factor on both my skating and cycling, i'm now doing both for long enough for my muscles to actually get a work out...

Thanks for the tips, guys. I'll try the Stimulators this weekend, I guess. Not sure if they have Doh-Dohs at my local shop.

Bushings
On 7/9/2003 Chuck wrote in from (65.141.nnn.nnn)

For those of us, uh, BIGGER guys who DESTROY Bones hardcores in short order, Soft Doh-Dohs are an excellent alternative.

If you want to get really sporty, lathe down a Stimulator for the pavement-side bushing as well as using a full-size one for the board-side.

Bushings for Randal's (@Ratty)
On 7/9/2003 Mark wrote in from (192.18.nnn.nnn)

Ratty,

Here's what I'd suggest for your Randal's:

* Replace stock bottom bushing with Tracker Stimulator (either soft or medium)
* Replace stock top bushing with Bones Hardcore bottom bushing (either soft or medium)
* Replace stock bottom cup washer with thin, flat washer
* Replace stock top cup washer with thin, flat washer

I have this setup, and it works great (doesn't require a longer kingpin).

Bones Bushings on Randal 180's
On 7/9/2003 Ratty wrote in from (192.12.nnn.nnn)

I swapped out the stock yellow bushings for Bones Hardcore (medium). While the bushings seem to be much more lively than the stock yellows, I can't seem to carve as deep with the Bones Hardcore. Its like the size difference btwn the 2 sets of bushings is limiting the max angle of the board.

The deck is a Landyachtz Mummy. While I like the action of the bones bushings, I am unwilling to give up any 'degrees' of deep carving taht the stcok Randall's provide.

Has anyone else noticed this? Is there a better replacement bushing with dimensions closer to the stock Randall bushings?

Thanks for any advice...

- Ratty

aero helmets
On 6/30/2003 david wrote in from (165.247.nnn.nnn)

how come i'ver never heard of this kind of aero helmet. does anybody outside of australia use them. as far as aero helmets go, i've had a chance to use eli smouses dr. go-fast helmet, that is a sweet helmet, but considering they cost upwards of 1000 bones, and i don't even think they are even made anymore. its nice to see a aero helmet for around 200.

also, i have a vigor vamoose II, while its marketed as a DH mountain biking helmet, i've heard that it was orginally designed as a speedboarding helmet by the legendary roger hickey. i have a face sield on mine, and its pretty aero and only cost around 150

Oh to be LED astray...
On 6/19/2003 psYch0Lloyd wrote in from (24.148.nnn.nnn)

The extended time it takes to heal as we age seems to get longer and wears pretty thin after two similar injuries one year apart threaten to take me away from the thrill of competition. Worse yet, is the fact that it also keeps us from creating/testing new products for the sport. Injury is a fact of life for most of us so I can only blame myself for not having been physically prepared to withstand the punishment.

Until now I have been relying solely on some of the more recent developments in joint health medication but haven't been able to treat the injury directly at the wound. Then this evening, after reading about findings in LED arrays I feel that there might yet be something looming on the horizon. Heck I don't think I'm going to wait for FDA approval...
...I'm gonna build myself one of these bad boys!

brakeboard
On 6/9/2003 hc wrote in from (207.212.nnn.nnn)

tim, one of local guy bought one and is trying to turn it into a handbrake system. We all thought the footbrake pedal thing is a joke.

The good thing about the brakeboard is they allow you to use any wheel of your choice.

I still have serious doubts about the brake system.

kevlar "leather"
On 6/9/2003 Duane wrote in from (64.223.nnn.nnn)

I should chime in here and remind everyone that kevlar will melt. It is a good casual abrasion protection, but if going fast, an extended slide may melt the kevlar. If using it it is best to have a non-synthetic layer underneath that will not melt (cotton for instance, not polypropylene). This will keep melted kevlar from becoming one with your skin. Melted kevlar is hot (500F), runny, and sticks like gangbusters to skin.

Question: If you wanted a brake system for your 'board, would you want a pedal system like Brakeboard or a cabled hand lever?
If you own a Brakeborad pedal system, would you buy a cabled hand lever conversion to eliminate the pedal AND the need to drill a hole in your board? www.skateluge.com -Tim

Edger griptape
On 6/2/2003 Mark wrote in from (192.18.nnn.nnn)

I finally installed the sample of edger griptape that Tracker's Buddy Carr sent me. It's aimed at pool/park/pipe riders, and even says "Not For Street Use" on the header card. You get 4 pieces, which is enough to grip a 10x34" board. I put 2 pieces on my BDS (tail, right over front truck), and skated it yesterday.

It's like freakin' velcro! First time I dropped in, my feet did NOT move. On my first "uphill" carve in the clovre, I immediately realized how much energy--physical and mental--I had been expending keeping my feet in their preferred position. After about 45-60 mins, I got used to it, and could move my feet around enough to adjust position, etc. Not sure if it was the tape wearing in or my shoes' soles breaking down. ;-)

Installation is a bear. Break out a fresh razor or utility blade and don't use your good file to clean up the edges. While it's not pizza grip coarse, it's way coarser than Wooster, Jessup, etc. It's stiffer and thicker than regular tape, so make sure you press it down hard.

I like it a lot, and I'll definitely buy some more.
