New to slalom
On 8/8/2005 Utah trish wrote in from United States  (70.56.nnn.nnn)

Ok, calling all women racers.

My name is Trish and I have just recently taken up slalom. I have been going to Martin Draytons Thursday night sessions and running cones. The more I ride, the more I love it and I thought maybe doing a race would be fun. Martin seems to think Morro is in the cards but I can't make it this year. Because Breck is so close, maybe it would be an option. But here's my question. Is it a good place for a new racer? I acually was there last year watching my brother race. It looked pretty intense to me but I have never seen slalom racing before either. Also, becasue my brother won't be there this year, would any of you women racers be willing to give a newbie a hand? Any ideas or comments woud be appriciated. Thanks a bunch and maybe I will see some of you in Breck.

Yo Iz,

Sorry we didn't get to hang out much when I was down there :( It was hard being carless.

Are you and Mitch ready for another trip up north? I sure would love it if you'd teach us NorCal folks how to tear up a hill like you do.....

Lunchtime carvin'
On 7/15/2005 Greta wrote in from United States  (206.173.nnn.nnn)

I hit a smooth cul de sac at lunch on my new ZFlex Plumer deck in the oh so exclusive neighborhood of Kirkland WA. Finding these sweet spots makes working in the burbs totally worth the commute. It was a "Neighborhood Watch" neighborhood, but all I got was a long astonished look from a retired gentleman walking his dog. :) Totally rad smooth pavement, no cars. Now I have to try and focus back on work....whoopsie. ;)

Parking Garages and Paychecks

Skate Parking Garages! Super fun, always dry. Good to rotate your bushings after all those left-hand turns!

Way to go Gareth of Roe Racing! Longtime supporter of Judy Oyama, kicked down EQUAL Prize Money in Hood! This is a great race, great venue, and great attitudes!

Keep skating! It is my goal (for someone else, hopefully not me) to get 9th place in an American Women's Slalom Division, and NOT BE LAST!

AGSJ

Hey Sasha,
I haven't been skating ramps hardly at all, but may go to agsj just for fun.

Gruningen was awesome, props to Noemi, Natasja, Bettina, Olga, Kristina, Leinite, Evelyn, Lea, Elena x 2, and all the other women who came out. You rip. European Slalom is so strong, 15 women each day.

I agree with Midgette, more women need to come to races. It's so much more fun and you get so much better racing with other women. Pump Station July 3! You can do it!

Hey everyone,

I feel like it's been forever since I've posted on here. ...Lynn, I'm in LA for the summer staying in San Pedro (without vehicle) but if you're up that way for any reason, email me so we can skate!

The Santa Monica opening was fun. Peggy Oki was there along with a bunch of old schoolers which was cool.

Wanted to remind everyone of the Girls Rule Weekend at Woodward west July 3-9. I'll be there, don't know who else is coming yet. Also AGSJ mini ramp contest at the San Diego Warped Tour June 30. Lynn, you should come for that one and show off those vert skills!

Lastly, anyone who wrote to me about doing a feature, my webmaster changed email programs without telling me, so I lost everyone's contact info that was one there. So, if you haven't heard from me yet, it's because I don't have the contact info. Please email me at info@sashalarochelle.com I'll start up writing again when I'm home mid-August. L8r, lady sk8rs:)

On 6/20/2005 Laura Henn wrote in from United States  (24.170.nnn.nnn)

Lynn: Great job in Gruningen- I am going to try to make it next year- I would love to skate with you again soon.

Midgette: Hopefully soon more girls will be coming out. With the opening of a new board shop in town that specializes in longboards and slalom set ups, there have been plenty of boys showing up at our Sunday sessions trying the slalom, but no girls yet. It will happen.

Pink skateboards: saw the ad on the back of my concrete wave and read the description- seems pretty accurate as far as I can tell, when I first started skating I wore boys shoes (too big) with a couple pairs of socks, that seemed to help me out with getting more grip on a big boy sized board, but now that I've been skating I'm really looking forward to seeing this skater girl population grow.

All you womens is "fuelin' the stoke"... If money were no object, it'd be great if all of the skateboard moms and all the women on NCDSA could all get together for a week of downhill, slalom, skate school tricks and tips, parks, pools and sliding.

I wish I could travel more this year, meet more people, skate more terrain, race more, money is just tight at the moment. I'm hoping by next year I will be able to load a SUV full of skater girls up to race with you, Midgette.

I'm also really interested to see what Chris & co. have designed for us female riders. I'm DYING for a board that's an old-school shape (squared-off kicktail, pointed nose) but no more than 8.5" wide/14" wb, CONCAVE and fairly lightweight but sturdy. Something I can turn and carve more easily than the 10" wide board I'm trying to work with now. Fingers crossed that pink skateboards will have what I'm looking for!

You're just ahead of the curve...the stuff you saw posted on the 'fish is all sortof "pre-release", even though the wheels are in final form. The Chaputs sent PINK equipment down to the SD event since they knew most of the students in the class were women.

pinkskate?
On 6/13/2005 airin wrote in from Canada  (142.22.nnn.nnn)

So what's up with pinkskateboards? I wrote them like a week ago applauding their efforts to designing boards with girls and other light riders in mind. I asked them about the flex on their longboards and queried them about access to trying out their set ups. But nothing back from them....silence... Anyone know whether they're still kicking or starting to go under?
