Sasha, That was a fun race. We missed you, but it went pretty late, and I know you have to drive far. Vert is definitely fun and calling to me. Only problem is everytime I push it, I get hurt. Like hurt where I can't skate, can't surf, can't snowboard. So I took this year off of vert to slalom. It hurts less. I'll go back to the parks after World's, and maybe I'll get the vert bug again next year.

Already made my purchases of deck, trucks, wheels...etc. Wondering if there are any groups that skate in Connecticut (Fairfield area)? Would really like to skate with others since I'm brand spankin' new to this. Drop me an email.

Last year, there was a really hard hill at Elsinore. I had no idea how hard it was, and if my teammate hadn't shown me how to tighten down my wheels, I would probably never make the course, have gone home discouraged, and never raced again.
Before the race, I was psyched up, and trying to psych up enough gals for a women's division (4). I probably pushed some of the smaller girls too hard, and they were torn between what they wanted them to do, and peer pressure.
If a race is coming up that you think may be too difficult, I would recommend that people prepare for the race, go to the hill, walk up it with the group, and if they feel like they can make it, go for it. If they feel like they want to tighten their wheels, then go for it. If they want to sit it out, then sit it out. But people won't give the hill a chance if we scare them away before they even show up.
A really funny thing happened at San Francisco last year, on the steepest, ugliest, fastest hill ever. Judi and I both showed up. We were riding the hill from the middle, deciding whether to race. We were in game mode, not talking to each other, and we both thought "Well if she's doing it, then I'm doing it" and we both made the course.
So the moral of the story is, don't do anything you don't want to do, but at least show up and look at it first.
Thanks for listening.

Glad to see such a big pool going to worlds! I hope someone comes out and does the super g with me. It should be make-able on 3dm reds. Remember, it's not a downhill, it's a slalom course so if you go 65 in a straight line in a car that weighs 1000 lbs, you're not necessarily going to go that fast zig-zagging a tuned-down board. I don't think Jack and Adrian would pick a hill that most people couldn't ride. Christina Thomas, where are you? Excited to meet new blood. Does anybody know who Niall Horton-Stephens is? and why hasn't Noemi signed up yet? Time to skate. Pumpstation sessions every Thursday evening now to October. Any San Diego locals, newbies, visitors, come on out! The hill is butt smooth and has a super mellow, then a bit of a hill, then a monster hill, and a super long flat run-out. You don't even have to footdrag.

Wow, two new categories on DCDSA and I fit 'em both! Being a woman skater and over 45, I'm stoked to have these new forums. I started longboarding in a big way this spring. I had wanted to skateboard for years but shortboarding as a girl wasn't really an option around here back in the 'day. Now that I've discovered longboarding I'm having a total blast and there's more to come as I know that slalom is just around the corner for me now too. I skate mostly with guys and in Vancouver we are fortunate to have a big longboarding community...with of course mostly guys. All the same, I have only ever felt welcomed and respected by longboarders and rarely think about the fact that I'm usually the only woman skating with the boys. It just isn't really an issue because we just all love to skate and share tips and offer encouragement. It is actually so cool that gender doesn't matter when your skating!

The best part of these races are the people, and let me tell you being able to race with the three lovely ladies of Road Kill Racing was a pleasure. It was great actually getting to spend time getting to know you all this time since we missed out on that in Luna. I really hope to spend time with you all soon. Sarah your one fast little cutie. Laura it was great watching you race you run very clean and have a personality to top that. Meg, my scar buddy and twin we have to get you up here soon we've got some fun to have.

It is so fantastic to see both a forum for teens and women how super is that!! I was looking at the sign up for the World Championships and became totally stoked about it! To see so many women signed up for the event was awesome! This year I'm going to be racing women at the World Championships! Shows on! I'm really looking forward to meeting those newbies who are racing there this year!! Keep practicing! its going to be an awesome event! Lauren PS. are any of the women racing on Turry Road at the Worlds (Friday)?
