Esther, thats awesome that you are so stoked on skateboarding! I was reading you post and in my opinion... a 10-20 page research paper seems a little much for longboarding... even skateboarding in general... You could try that though: the history of skateboarding that would be pretty interesting and awesome! But then again 10-20 is a lot of pages... especially since there arent many books on it. Well good luck! Lauren PS that is indeed Sasha La Rochelle from Gravity... hAvE fUnn!

Hi! I just got my first longboard a few weeks ago, and ever since i've been pretty obsessed. i'd just like to say this is the COOLEST websit!! and also, i was wondering, is sasha the 15 yr old sasha riding for gravity? cuz if so, that is SO AWESOME! anyway, i have to do a senior project and we have to turn in our idea proposals by friday and i was wondering if it would or woudlnt be a good idea to write a 10-20 page paper on longboarding, would that be hard/too technical? or hard to research? cuz there doesnt seem to be too many books on it in the library...

First, everybody should skate as fast as Noemi Reichel. Holy Cow. That Super G hill was sooo fast and sooo long. It blew away Hood for speed and out-of-controlness. It was like coming into our Pump Station at 25mph, then bombing straight. Judi, I always like to race you cause it's anyone's race. I'm glad you made it to this and Breck. Three Women's divisions! Jr and not-so-junior. Lauren, I was kidding in the truck. You skate beautifully. Keli, BIG style improvement from last year. You are getting fluid power. Great job at the cyber. Sarah, you are too cute. You keep skating with your bro and you will become great. You're not afraid to beef. WoodCamp! You guys are really cool. You girls need to find an underground parking lot. You've got the fire. Terry, thanks for all your help with coaching, timing, kids. I still wish you'd skate. You scare me.

Hey i know must of you live on the west coast area....but i was wondering if there are any girls in virginia beach or around this area that skate. I havent really seen that many girls around here that skate but if there i would defn like to go skating sometime!!! I usually just set up some flatland slalom and practice at that or try and find some hills to bomb! I also make trips to northern virginia to skate some of the better concrete skateparks there.
So anyone that wants to go skating Just email me... Ohh and if you know any places to skate around here or within a short driving distance let me know. I just want to find a good concrete park, pool, downhill, or some awesome banks to skate!
Skate On, Jenn!

I was headed up to Strawberry till I read about the bowl in Sf on the pools and parks column. When I found out they were taking it out next weekend, I passed up Strawberry to skate that instead and I'm glad I did being as yesterday was the only chance I had to skate it.
Anyone in the SF bay area who has a chance this week, check out the Yerba Buena cener for the Arts on the corner of Third and Mission in SF. They built a wood pool with pool coping in one of the galleries for people to skate. It's like performance art. It's free to skate because you are an "artist".
The bowl is about 8 in the deep end maybe and about 4 in the tight shallow. It was a super great session yesterday with about 4-8 of us skating. I've never skated such a mellow fun session. The pool coping on the wood was wierd for sure, and it was slippery but not nearly as bad as Glendale. I wish I'd found out about it before now.
The rest of the museum has kind of a dark skater inspired exhibit going on. The highlight was the drum circle yurt kind of thing. Park at the garage at 5th and Mission.

Anybody skate any good spots today? Any plans for Sunday? Who's at Strawberry Bowl?
Spread the Stoke.
Scott Johnston and I were riding cones in a way-out-of-the-way residential street and got yelled at by an old guy. He threatened to call the cops, wanted Scott's License plate number, and told us we should be ashamed of ourselves for being in a public street. So we went to the high school where it really is illegal to skate, but the cops watch you skate cones in awe.

I would absolutely love to surf, my dad surfed, mostly was big into wind surfing... but I found an awesome work out for surfers using a stability ball, supposedly it strengthens "the core muscles" and you balance... I just eat spinach. I know I feel better when I get up earlier... I know for a fact I feel better when I exercise... but I'm a lazy bum. I do envy anyone on the west coast simply for all the wonderful places to skateboard. More places to skate = more skaters, the girl who taught me to skate was from Seaside Oregon, and she could rip. It just came so naturally to her, she of course surfed... SOMEDAY... when I'm done eatin my spinach

I am blessed to live in Sunny San Diego where we have a very special early early morning exercise called Surfing. But on days that are flat or blown out (many of them recently) I wake my butt up at 5:30 and get to the gym. Endurance, flexibility, and strength are all helping my skating, because, as an entrepreneur, I have to work ALOT. By the time I get out of work, get home, cook dinner, then I'm pooped and want to crash. By setting the clock early 3 days a week and spending 1/2 to 1 hour on me, Next weekend I will skate better, and be less sore on Monday.
Morro's gonna be a blast!

Well, Lynn... I haven't finished college, I really want to, just haven't decided what peice of paper I want, 'cept the green kind. I have to work right now or my husband will kill me. I am currently at a lawfirm, and like working the same hours as my husband, but unless we get rich quick (i.e. not happening) then our skateboarding (good, lengthy sessions) are limited to weekends. I'm pretty frustrated about it all because I'm not progressing. I will try to go skate after work, and once I get through traffic to the VERY few spots we have here, it's dark, it's not safe, I'm tired, and OH MY GOD the bugs are HUGE (I think all the Floridian bugs have come here, they haven't been this bad EVAR)... then the weekend comes, I get a couple good days of skating hard in, then I'm sore all week... I'm thinking, if I want to do the things I love and still make money, one of these kidneys is gonna have to go. :D

Betty, I seriously recommend quitting your job. Retire now, when you are young enough to enjoy all the things you want to. Work will still be there when you get back.
Disclosure: Now remember kids, Betty is finished with school and can do what she wants now. You have to do what your parents say.
Has anyone seen my monkeywrench?

Keli- Took the VERY long drive out there yesterday on the way home. We drove the road for an hour looking for the course. No luck. I don't know if we just couldn't see it from the van or what, but we finally gave up. So long story short, since I couldn't find the marked course I just looked at all parts of the road as whether I would be willing to skate it or not. With that in mind, It all looked good to me. But on the other hand, I'm used to skating all kinds of stuff, so maybe this is not coming from everyone's perspective. I think people should look at it and decide for themselves. Either way, it looks fun. I just got confirmation I can't go for sure, so best of wishes for a great time! And thanks for the directions.
Lynn, wish you could have made it. You would have placed well. CB, Lyn-z, and Apryl were rippin it to shreds. I'm doing a write up on it. I'll let you know when it's posted. By the way, funny commentary :) L8r....

Hey Sasha, Good luck in Huntington. I'll be less lame next year. Sorry to hear you think you won't come to Worlds. To each their own. That's what makes skateboarding so great. If you get bored with the ditch, you can go to the pool. When you get kicked out, bomb a hill. When you get a paycheck, you can join the Y.

Keli-Didn't have time to stop on the way down. I'll check it out on the way home. Just found out I have to film the weekend of the world's so don't know if I'm gonna make it :( Plus the $100 entry fee doesn't sound too appealing as I only want to do the super g. But I will get back to you about it by Monday when we drive through.
Lynn, Sorry again about sunday. I've just got too much going on. I've hardly had time to do any slalom events this year and I'm bummed!!! You should skate the vert comp on Sunday. A very small turnout, only about 5 girls and I know for a fact you're better than two of them for sure. Today's street comp was the same old same old...But I did run into Fish there so that was cool. Surfed tonite at Doheny. Hitting it again in the morning and Huntington in the afternoon. If you're considering the vert comp, riders meeting 7:30 pm at the Hilton across from the pier Saturday nite. Gotta run.....

I hate that it's getting darker sooner... once you get off work, and get out to skate, run some cones, the sun is setting. Last night me and Meg went out to skate a little bit, and we were running this hill, and about a quarter of the way down you just get bombarded with insects... once it's too dark to see the cones, especially if you have to keep your eyes shut to keep the bugs out... it's time to pack it up. I'm gonna have to quit my job.
