He wasn't the greatest e.g. compared to Mike Weed, but the dude was FREAKIN SMOOTH. and he turned the world on to Cadillac wheels! Significant! Urethane baby! Taken for granted now but back then, holy sh@t!
Thanks for the master 45+ memories bro! You still around?

I agree with Rene, the legends racing was a unique and great event. The winners rotated through the 3 events and we all did well to compete. Better luck next time to all of us and let's do it next time.

I know some of you and as I got to know you guys over the years had no clue who you are.Had alot of respect before because you where my age riping what you do best, now as time goes by I am blown away by how long you guys have been ripen hard. Even more respect to you guys. In downhill I am very old but no rider takes me for grANTED!YOU GUYS ARE ON TOP ALL THE TIME AND THE YOUNG GUNS ARE JUST TRYING TO KEEP UP, THATS COOL, KEEP RIPEN!I have been close to Waldo for a very long time and we have shared many things but I had not a clue that he was right there back in the hay days and he never said a word. I have raced waldo , him on his luge and me stand-up, when he would hold my leg at 50 I never told him that he was wrong and could have killed me because I guess deep down I knew he knew alot about stand-up and did it right.I guess I was right!

Hey Layne,
Long story, I'll e you this week. You know I just had a funny thought. The class of 78 at Clairmont High School included Layne, myself and Dennis Martinez. Now I guess you could begin to understand why, Fast Times At Ridgemont High was written about my senior class.

Man, how the heck are ya !
Do ya see how Richy is doin' RACING - nowadays?
-remember WAY back then - - -mid 1970's... brother David and I slalom raced - ...and Richy WAS THE FREESTYLER !!! -sheesh !
We all will be racing @ 2006 La Costa.
You should be there.
-someone told me that my pro skateboard bubble-gum card was the 'rarest' in that series.
hmmm.
Racing in the 1977 Catalina Classic was a blast - Santana Skateboards paid for everything for me - to race in that event. I even went home in a helicopter !
Dick Wolf was even there @ Catalina - he was lookin' for me and some others to sign some papers concerning us being in the 1976 movie SKATEBOARD.
He is the producer of LAW AND ORDER on T.V. !
Did you remember that Bruce Brown manned the main camera for ABC WIDE WORLD OF SPORTS ?
Great weekend. -I have some pics of me & Chuy Madrigal racing @ Catalina , I gotta find them.
Here's to the OLD days !
BELOW: 1976 - BROTHERS RENE, RICHY, AND DAVID CARRASCO - CARLSBAD MOUNTAINS. 3 DIFFERENT KIND OF NOSE-WHEELIES ! -MAN, WE WERE HAULIN' !
Take care, Layne -

Rene, how are you? I've got 1 copy of my card but people still trip when they see it. I just spent a weekend on Catalina and saw a Golf Cart with a fibreflex sticker that was probably put on it about 30 yrs ago.

6th Sandia All Around Challenge

We may have enough skaters at Sandia this year to have a Masters Class, if you are interested please sign up on the contest calendar and in the comments field mention that you are old. 6th Sandia All Around Challenge will be held September 22nd – 24th, 2006. This event was featured in a recent issue of Concrete Wave magazine. This event has the highest exposure of the TSR 2006 Series because it is possible for spectators to see all 9 of the events that competitors are earning points in. Add that to riding the endless ditches of Albuquerque and you have plenty of riders and rippers making the weekend trip to explore this legendary event.
This year is expected to be the biggest All Around yet with defending champions Chris Chaput of ABEC 11, Will Brunson of TimeShip Racing and runners up Rob Palmer of Sector 9 and Ryan Ricker of TSR battling it out for the title of the Worlds' Best All Around Skateboarder. This requires competing in High Jump, Ollie High Jump, Longest Grind in the Combi Pool, 360's, Best Trick, Banked Slalom, 8.3 mile Cross Town Race, Downhill Race and a Slalom Race. 3 days, 9 events and a 3 board minimum. This is the All Around Challenge. In 1978 in Long Beach Ca, Tony Alva was crowned the World All Around Champion. In Albuquerque we have revived this tradition for the 6th consecutive year.

Marty -
I used to bring brothers Richy, [-I think Richy was 14 or 15 back then ] -also David, Skate Photog Glenn Miyoda, Mike Schwartz, sometimes a Paskowitz or 2, sometimes the Ferguson brothers... and our SUPER DOG ~ "SAMMY LEE!" to La Costa Sunday Races.
Remember that old 1963 beige Rambler I used to drive down in - well, .....someone from Europe emailed me years ago asking if that was my car - they saw in a Europen TV Commercial - my Rambler, and skaters stuffed in it - with a black dog ! -Wow ! -it was supposed to be a commercial about THE CALIFORNIA LIFESTYLE - I think.
Hey man, - I'll see ya @ Bicknell Hill Race, or 2006 La Costa !

Yeah they were every Sunday. The cast that used to show regularly was incredible and then the folks that would drop in from up North made it different every weekend. La Costa was the place to be no doubt about it.
I will always remember Di Dootson sitting on the curb with her clipboard recording times and keeping us in line. She was La Costa!!!!!
