Cool to see some of the big events this summer have Masters Divisions. Hopefully the days of us being embarrassed by the youngsters are over...we're just going to be embarrassed by the other Masters like Claude now and Paul Price & JBH etc soon! ;) Great!

Martin - Happpy Birthday Man!
Tina with an 8 wheeler - Here's my 2 cents having owned several back in the late 70's/early 80's. The main trick to it I'm going to tell you is based on the assumption that your feet are not as long as the deck is wide.
1st - You will need to be able to shuffle from one side to the other so that you have enough toes on the toe-side of the deck to make toe-side turns, then shuffle back to the other side so your heels are over the heel-side to make heel side turns. I'm generally refering to using a surf stance, but just to make a point, one can shuffle parallel ski-stance or semi-parallel too if you want to but I would'nt recommed it until you get the surf-stance version down pretty solid.
2nd - Learn to anticipate your turns ahead of time and which side of the centerline you will need to be on so you can shuffle your feet at the right time. Learn to shuffle your feet QUICKLY, real quick to keep things under control. This applies both to carving and kickturns, wheelies, G-turns, nose wheelies, etc.
3rd - If all else fails, the backup plan is to center your feet on the centerline of the deck in a surf stance and do tick-tack turning, this will be totally and completely style-less but you'll get by for awhile until you can shuffle and carve.
Remember, the key is the toeside/heelside shuffling of the feet. The more you do it the quicker and smoother and more natural it will become.
Where did you get your 8 wheeler? Bulldog skates, Factory 13 or someplace else?
Good luck -Paul

My first post here...Actually I finally assembled an 8-wheeler, and need to learn how to ride this beast!!!
I took it out last evening and couldn't even steer it.
I'm a woman,(lower center of gravity?) and a so-so skateboarder, but I aim to at least learn to flatland this baby.
It would be a gas to show up at the skatepark someday and at least carve the bowl, though...!
Thanks for any links, tips, etc! ~ Tina

Hey, the PEOPLE'S SLALOM and BBQ original date has been changed and changed again due to rainouts. It could change again and we will go week by week until we get a good forcast. Presently we're looking at Sunday April 27th. Just in case that is of any interest to anyone.
Over and out- P

I just got back from the early bird dinner at the local Old Country Buffet and found my new membership card to AARP in the mail. Don't you think there should be a class of AARP racers at the next big Slaom event?
Dagnabbit... the kid next door just kicked his ball into my yard... it's mine now!!!.

This is sweet. I can practice for another six years and then enter as a Master. I love it!! I used to get a magazine called "Geezer Jock". Their official cut off line for a Master's athlete (aka Geezer Jock) was only 40.

The saying that is used amoung the DHB is: "If you are going to be stupid, you better be tough." ...referring to the many slams taken by the crew because they were ..well..lets just say...GOING FOR IT.
