Guto,

Check out Sergio's second son. He can do everything his older brother does and then some. I would say that he has more tricks than his dad does! I got a good look at his skills and his older brothers when I was in Brazil for a month earlier this year. Oh yeah, the younger one was ten when I was there. He can do nose slide 360s with or without grabbing the rail.

TV commercial
On 7/17/2006 Guto Jimenez wrote in from Brazil  (200.165.nnn.nnn)

Hey Cliff.
I was thinking about that commercial idea of yours, and I think that the perfect team would be you, Lloyd, Sergio and his older kid. He absolutely kicks ass!!! Amazing long BS nose slides and all that tricky stuff Sergio is famous for. That kid certainly can't deny his roots, and is the living proof that skateboarding skills do have a proper gene on the DNA.

On 7/12/2006 Cliff Coleman wrote in from United States  (67.161.nnn.nnn)

Eddie,

Go to "McMaster.com". Then using their search window, type in "UHMW". This stands for "Ultra High Molecular Weight" Polyethelene. Then click the go button. This will take you to the order page for UHMW plastic. Buy the oil impregnated stuff if you want it to last. For example, if you were to use a cutting board for your pucks, they are HDPE, High Density Polyethelene. This will only last me about a day or less. The UHMW last me years! Spend a little extra when you purchase your plastic. You will save in the long run.

Good luck and ask again if you need more help.

Eddie,

Be carefull using polycarbonate pucks. They will slide ok, but if you hit them hard on anything, they will break at the edges and become so sharp that you could cut your self with the pucks. Keep the corners and edges round and you should be ok.

Lloyd Kahn/Get on Your Hands!
On 6/27/2006 Cliff Coleman wrote in from United States  (67.161.nnn.nnn)

For those of you who might not know, Lloyd Kahn who was saved from injury by wearing his slide gloves, is 71 years old! This guy is my hero. I can only hope to keep in the same kind of shape that he is in as I age.

Lloyd, I'll give you a call. I would love to visit in Bolinas some time. We can share stories of our travels. I also started a book. I don't know if I will ever finish, but it is an interesting endeavor.

Stay safe Lloyd and have fun. I think you and I and possibly a young slider should do a television commercial. it would be fun.

Velcro
On 6/27/2006 F wrote in from Canada  (70.48.nnn.nnn)

Use 3DM velcro, the one with the glue. It rocks, and will never move if you sew a X with a textile machine.

Peace.

bonding slide gloves and polycarbonate
On 6/24/2006 eddie wrote in from United States  (64.132.nnn.nnn)

finally got me a sheet of polycarbonate instead of cutting board for slide gloves. what would be the best way to attach it to a pair of leather gloves? i dont want to melt this expensive stuff, but i cant afford to have some crappy velcro fail me.

Get On Your Hands!
On 6/23/2006 Lloyd Kahn wrote in from United States  (67.142.nnn.nnn)

About a year ago Cliff Coleman said to me, "Remember these four words when you're going down: Get On Your Hands! This is assuming you're wearing sliding gloves. Sure enough, I was skating down the main drag in Mill Valley last week at 1 AM (no cars) and there was a 3" wide crack in the pavement that my wheels dropped neatly into and stopped. I went flying forward, got my hands in position and the sliding pads on my gloves skidded along the pavement, saving skin.

PS Cliff, if you're out there, let me know. I lost track of you.

Lloyd

Cliff,

Thanks again for the great lesson. You are a class act and a great teacher!!!

I am looking forward to your next trip down to So Cal so you can help me further improve my skills. Maybe by that time I will have my new MRI machine (soon to be the best in the county) so we can do some high tech imaging.
