Matt A. in Santa Barbara, you're a pansy and your killing the great sport of LongBoarding. If your going to continue on the golf courses get a block of ice and lick your cheaks so you don't fall off. If you're going to skate, then skate. In Goleta you can ride Walls, just of Hollister on the beach side of the road near the DMV. If you're looking for a good downhill try Alameda Padre Serra near the mission, GOOD LUCK! On the serious side, Walls is great, its a spillway that is pretty dry. There are also tons of small but steap roads in various parts of town, look in Montecito and Hope Ranch. I'm an ex Santa Barbarian, but am in Colorado now, for the hills. If you're looking for a good group of guys to ride with, look up Doug and Drew at Surf Country in Goleta on calle real. The paths on golf courses are prime, you can go all balls out and not worry about the crash, but stay off the lawns. Tiger might come after you

Cottonwood Pass CO

Another downhiller from Portland Oregon here to inform you of the hills in Colorado. Cottonwood has many 30-40 mph sections and some clock in at 50+. Only one side of the pass is paved the other is dirt, so traffic is not as bad as some of the other rideable passes in Colorado. The road was paved a few years ago and only gets summer use so it is still a creamy blacktop. Check it out.

sasebo is surrounded by mountains on every side. nice long smooth rides...little traffic, except rice farmers..mirrors conveintly mounted on poles on hairpin curves so you can keep an eye out for oncoming traffic. there are also some long smooth one lane runs full of hairpin curves lined with guard rails, and 20-50 ft drops into rice patties if you happen to slip under or over a rail....i slid under a rail at about 45 kph thanx to a car and a buddy that couldn't quite make the turn. we race these one laners at night layin' down...and it usually ends up in a pile up...no pads just old sneakers, jeans and a shirt (in the winter). pretty much all of japan is mountainous and you get little hassle from the fuzz.

this mountain is in sasebo japan.....sweet long smooth runs some to 8 km long down one side...little traffic, mostly rice farmers. the other side is a long smooth one lane ass draggin' hairpin suicide ride that usually sends one person over a guard rail, there are mirrors mounted on poles to help you keep an eye out for oncoming traffic...but the rides usually end in a pile up, it's a helluva night ride, makes for a good ol' sit down race...and ya don't have to fall as far. japan is an excellent place to ride downhill...tons of steep mountains all over the place and no hassle from cops like DC & maryland.

There is a place called 'Pico do Jaragua', close to Sao Paulo, Brasil. It's a little mountain, 4.300m of pure madness. To get 80Km/h is easy ! To stop !? It's more difficult ! The left side of my body knows very well ! To take a shower after that, it's a declaration of love to longboard ! There is a short escape area ! But..... I love it !

Ok, swansea is an ok place to skate on normal decks, but for those with a longboard who visit this small sea-side town (pop. 750) and aren't into watersports, there is only really one place. its short (500 meters, including run-off) but its hell. it must be a 45 degree angle at least. you'll probably kill yourself. but thats about all we have. its the old tip road bye.

The best parking garage ever. 8 floors of pure heaven. I mean pussy isn't even this good. Smoother than a baby's but. If you go toe side, you can do some nice slides. Top speed is around 30. You can drink beers at the top while inmates stare, turn around and ride, then take the elevator back up.

San Fransisco is the city bouilt on some of the steepest, curviest, craziest streets in the world. Unfortunately, it is also the city that never sleeps so traffic is almost always a problem. Just cruise up the hills in the very early morning and keep your eyes open for areas of light traffic. Have fun, but be real careful.

I'm looking for some mellow hills to carve in and around the Boston area. Preferably spots that are not too steep or crowded with traffic. A pretty good place to just cruise in boston is memorial drive on Sundays, they block off traffic for a mile and a half stretch.

New to the sport but hooked already! This spot is good for everyone from beginners to the pros. Starting at the bottom of the hill (stop sign) go all the way up past the trail crossing (stop sign). After that you will reach a somewhat level area, turn left towards the picnic area and park in any lot. We usually hike up the road you come in on (towards IBM) as high as we want. You blast down this hill and make a right onto the picnic road, this is the run out area, but it is a very mellow down hill that is super smooth and great for carving. This road circles around and eventually dumps you into a parking lot. This spot is the best on the weekends when no one is working at IBM. The traffic is really light(weekends only) and the road is nice and smooth. Never been hassled by park staff or anyone else. If you are really skilled and ballsey, don't turn right, but go all the way down to the bottom, there is no real run out so watch it. Take highway 101 south, exit Bernal road (west) follow it all the way past the golf course and up the hill.

Haleakala (hall-ay-ah-call-ah) is the world's largest dormant volcano. It's not the Highest, but the road goes all the way to the top; 10,023 Ft., and the road is 38 miles long, ending up in Paia at sea level. This is a mother of a ride folks, expect leg cramps if you're not pre-training. The pavement is rough at the top and the rangers bite, so I start at the park entrance (7,500 Ft.) where the road is almost new. Tour busses can be a problem, but the downhill bicycle companies will help you out by creating a barrier behind you so you can look to the front more. I have been training on this hill for over a year now. I'm still worn out before the bottom, but I can do it all the way now. You pretty much want your wheels and equipment to be in top condition, my wheels get HOT and wear out faster because of it. I used to skate Mt. Shasta in Cal. but Maui's mountain is twice as radical. To get there from Airport/Kahului Just take Haleakala Hiway UP, UP, UP you CAN'T miss it. There are other killer roads over here. Here's a few names: Kauhikoa St., Kokomo Rd., Ulumalu St., and many others that, while not as long, are way challenging and easier to get to. Keep on bombing!

First i want to congradulate all the skaters in the world on a fine choice of transport. then i wanna ask why there are so many tasmanians on this page? (E- Mail me) then i wanna add that its true, Aussie pigs hate skaters, but seem to luv roller-fags.
now for north hobart road. its a sic place to go down at 1 - 2 in the morning, on both long and pro boards. i've done it many times myself. not too step, but nice roads and plenty of lights from the shops to wizz by and finger. ends up at elizabeth street mall , so is a cool way for people who live in north hobart / Newtown to get into town on a saturday night. SKATEY'S RULE, ROLLERFAGS DIE!!

There is a killer place located at a huge mall in the suburbs of Paris called Parly II!! Yes dudes it is one of the coolest place I know for my favorite activity : Downhill skateboarding yeEEEE Haaaa Hell yes! In fact, there is an enormous parking complex made of several floors. We all take the stairs to go on the top and we made up cool speedy tracks going always down with cool killer curves. We go through the parkings from the top to the bottom and finally we just have to take the stairs again. We skate like that all day long and even at night thanks to the lights. The tracks are various and there is a wide choice of ways to take. On top of that, there is a fast food inside the mall and also a supermarket where we can buy beers at really low price. Shortly speaking, it's an awesome place!!! I skateboard with a Cloud 9 from Sector9 and my friends got original Downhill(my old one I bought in California when I used to study at Sac State) and powell longboads with Kryptos wheels. Peace to Sylvain and Yann Breton, Special thanks to Sector9 for making great boards and Total Respect to Hawaii Surfshop in Ivry sur Seine!!! SeeYAAAA

Someone else already posted about this excellent run, but two things they didn't mention are the steel pipes built into the edges of the curbs (for those who like to do effortless 15 foot 50-50 grinds) and the bus lines that take you to the top of the run (for those who don't like to hike 20+ blocks.) The 71 Noriega takes you right to the top of the run, and its last stop is at the end of the run. If you get a bus transfer you can do the ride 3 times for a buck!

Short little hill rides, some times after it rains the hills can get a little treacherous with all the dirt, rocks and other crap that washes off the shoulder. But pretty much fast short strait rides but it's in the nieghborhood and I don't have to across town.

There is two possible ways down the northern face. The old and new.The new one is a 110km/h(60mph) road, and that´s wy we prefer the old one with a lot less cars. 3,4 km stright down in an angle that will make you go over 65 km/h (40 m/h) and the road surface is smooth and perfect for big carvin turns, but watch out for the 24m trucks coming up the hill face to face. The hill ends with a t-cross that allows you to easely slow down. to all you longborders around... stay downhill. This is the most challenging ride I've ever done, The road is THIRTY EIGHT miles long! and descends from 10'000 to sea level. I usually dont start all the way up, as the road is not great. From 7,500 ft. it gets oh so smooth and wide. Check your equipment well boys, if you lose a wheel it could be all over. some of the hardcores do it at night under the full moon, but just the high part in the park but below the rough stuff, but I charge during daylight and avoid the huge tour busses that are the main daylight hazard except for an occasional cow. There are many other roads (averaging 7 to 10 miles long)Kauhikoa, kokomo rd. etc. Some good training areas for those who don't have the stamina right away. After four or five miles the legs can start to cramp and bearings will get hot, melt wheel, and boom. I've been skating for 25 years, my last name is Hill, and I grew up in Petaluma (means 'little hills' in indian dialect) so take it from me, Tis is the shit dreams are made of. Oh yeah, dont forget the incredible pakalolo (herb) that is grown here, I prefer it to the mass cloned high yield indicas predominant on the mainland lately.
