The movie is off the hook. My wife who isn't in to skate scene loved it. Great story and the cinematography is amazing. This is not Skateboard the movie, but a tale of relationships that skateboarding is the vehicle that holds the plot solid. The skate scenes are wild. Ending ruled.
Hanging out with the crowd after was something I'll always remember. They were all there. Russ Howell doing handstand at the edge of the balcony and down the stairs. Skip, P.C., Sarlo, Stecyk, Flores, and Jay. Jay is a true ambassador for the sport.
There was even a "Jack-tor".
Go see it for sure.

Posted this on other sites, but I think that going to the new Lords of Dogtown feature film will be a most opportune time to get petition sigatures for that local public concrete skatepark you always wanted.
Get 'em going in the door(you don't really even have to necessarily attend the film)and get 'em going out!

The site of the skateranch was a dirt lot for as long as I can remember. I could be wrong but I always seen to remember the hardcore bettors parking their trailers out there when the track was open.

You, know I always just thought that those old Skateboard Mag spreads by Stecyck & whatnot were in black & white because he was artsy. Now, I realize, that must have been all you guys HAD back then, man!
Would the photographer stay under the hood the whole time, or just stand next to the camera holding that big "flash" torch thing? Did the smoke get in your eyes when you were competing? Was Jack Murphy actually there? Jeez, you didn't even have Bicentennial Quarters yet...
More seriously, the way they shot LODT, it made me think that the 1975 Del Mar contest was held at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, rather than across the street where the Del Mar Skate Ranch was (at least by the time I showed up). Is that right, the contest was over in the fairgrounds? When I showed up in Del Mar my first time to skate (just after the development of color film, I think), my buddies and I all thought the SkateRanch was the location of the earlier contests. I neve gave it a second thought until the other night at the preview.

The 1975 USSA San Diego contest was held in the parking lot of what was then called the Jack Murphy Stadium. Now it's called QualComm Stadium.

I think that the Del Mar nationals was the last contest that I missed before getting heavily into competitions. Later that year (September 1975) I entered the USSA World Skateboard Championships in San Diego where I first saw Russ Howell, the Z-Boys, Chris Yandall, Tracker Trucks, etc. I took first place in Freestyle in the Boys Division (12-14) and did okay in the slalom around those big cones with the bases. I think that my first Del Mar contest wasn't until 1981. Skating had changed quite a bit by then.

On the sony site there is a sweet little clip in the webisodes, called Meet The skators. very cool clip with lots of skating and mention to all the cameos, Hackett olson, chaput etc.

As Lbk & Justin mentioned , the DC Premier was the place to be last night....plenty of memories were brought back to life. The skaters were the ones hooting & hollering at the rad 'old-school tricks'and it was obvious who was thrilled to see the rad slides and to try to pick out the infamous peeps, despite make-up and period outfits. Heck, even today's astronauts where many hats...or is it boots? WesE bought all those who arrived on 4 urethane wheels the super-size popcorn to annoint those in attendance. Skatethedowner,WesE,lbk, and myself got to skate an underground parking garage several times while looking for lbk's ride. Thanks skatethedowner for allowing me to crash on your couch,the 3 hrs sleep until I had to roll to work was plenty, plus we found and skated a lighted new parking garage on the way home...that was a nice post-midnight soul session. Beth,DCDCAnthony & Doug,Rob,Seth,Frank,Jam LB's Marc & Eli and the rest...twas great to see you all. Hey Pacific Hessian, I think we picked you out of the crowd, nice job. PS: Don't skate in Moonboots!

Well, I checked it out at the first San Diego premiere, and had a good time. This is a different animal than Z-Boys is, with high production values, a different focus and more drama... of course.
The skating is cool, the soundtrack is very well keyed to the movie and the CAMEOS are good fun, just by themselves. I was sitting next to Chris Chaput and he started chuckling, "that's Jim Muir", and damn if he wasn't right. There are plenty more of that deal, and it will be fun looking for more at the next screening.
My four year old liked the boob shots and the skateboarding. Jeez, is that CPS at the door? First, I take him to a theater full of skaters and then let him watch big fat boobs swaying in...well okay, I distracted him with an offer to sip some root beer... but he still liked what he saw. When "Tony" or "Stacey" pulled a killer move or whatnot on the screen, my son would toss his hands in the air and say "alright!". So did half the crowd, so we were cool.

add another one to the 'snuck in' list..apparently in 2005 the phrase "i'm just looking for my friend" still works :)
i'm not going to review this movie...it ruled my face. 'nuff said.
