Others might suggest different, however the racing infrastructure (rather than the racing standard) in the UK is at a very grass-roots level. With our working in conjunction with the UKGSA we hope to raise the level of our competition hosting with combined events such as Cadwell Park, but in the short term the UK races should be regarded as basic, but spirited. Once an infrastructure has been achieved, you can be sure that we'll be banging on the door for major acredition. Cadwell was regarded as a gateway event towards the possibility of a racetrack series that offers skaters the opportunity to race not only slalom, but all of the gravity sports featured under the UKGSA banner.     Rate post 265888 ! A similar body is being organized for Europe. After considering the information in the application for status, the contest coordinators will assign a status to the race (Major, Main, Prime, Basic ... these determine the World Ranking points possible for each race). In Europe, this Contest Coordination 3-person body needs volunteers. This might be a great way to seek more UK races of higher World Ranking status than have been awarded in the past. Cadwell Park, Sunday February 4th The Event will take part on 3 different hills. [b]Hill 1 - Soapbox and UKGSA Freeride[/b] Looking at the Cadwell map (see www.UKGSA.org) the Big Hill starts at Chris Curve and follows the course down through some tight corners, a 90 degree left and a chicane, finishing just before the Mountain. It is about 600m long and enough to chalange the best riders. [b]Soapbox Race[/b] - Round 1 of the 2007 UK National Soapbox Race Series. Teams are invited to enter and the new National Soapbox Rules will apply. Click here for rules [b]The Big Hill Freeride[/b] - Run by the UKGSA, this Freeride will be taking part on the main Cadwell Hill alongside the Soapbox racing. This is a challenging hill and if riding Stand-Up experience is necessary. Sign-up for the Big Hill Freeride is in advance only! UKGSA Freeride entrants will also be allowed to ride on the Lush Longboards hill and take part in the UKSSA Slalom. As a special offer 2006 UKGSA Members will get a discount for this event! [b]Hill 2 - UKSSA Slalom[/b] Hill 2 is on the Park Strait and can be run in either direction depending on the wind. It's not quite as steep as Brans Hatch, but it is a longer run and the surface is perfect. If bad weather causes the Slalom event to be cancelled entry fees will be rolled over to the next UKSSA event. [b]Hill 3 - Lush Longboards Session [/b] The Lush Longboards session takes part in the Northen Woodland Circuit, this hill runs from the Hairpin through Barn and down to the Start/Finish line. Sunday 10th September 2006. 1pm onwards. Where? Hillingdon Cycle Track, north of Heathrow airport. Right here Format? Similar to the Bude Classic. Single-lane timed and dual-lane knockout. Cost? £8 single entry, £15 parent and kid, £20 parent & two kids. Support from Octane Sport For those who haven't been before, this is a grass-roots slalom bash for allcomers. Run what you brung or try out what you covet. Courses are typically open so that you should even be able to run a longboard through the GS. If folks wanna run tight sl then it can be arranged, time constraints permitting. This day is as much a skater gathering as competitive event. And what if it rains? The Grapes pub that just off the roundabout and by the BP petrol station(towards Hayes) is also a Beefeater restaurant and so lets in kids under eighteen, provided they are away from the bar area: It does have a basic dress code, and if this is a difficulty then there is a delicious second dining option just over the road: But let's hope these facilities don't come into play until the light fades. It's a relaxed affair that is as much an excuse to talk shop and take in ale as it is to skate: Michael Stride is typically there with his magic truck of goodies, and all of the skaters are happy to lend you a board for a run or two. There are kitchen facilites, tea urn, microwave, with mugs in cupboards under the counters. You will have access to them all, but please clean up the kitchen and main room after you." And if all plans go awry, then we hit Hyde Park and go pedalo racing. Yes, I know. The shot below is a dinghy. Faster Timmy, faster! The traditional cry to recall such things after their hour's hire is "Come in, number nine, your time is up". -- "But we've only got eight boats." "Number six, are you in trouble?" Just here: Click here for link Best approach is by car from the M4. Head North on Junction 3 towards Southall, go straight over the first roundabout and then leave on the exit road up to the second roundabout. Take the right hand exit towards Southall on the A4020, moving over to the right-hand lane in order to take the first right into Springfield Road (It's the turning just after the large MFI warehouse and Wickes store). The entrance to the cycle track is on the right before the turning point at the end of the straight section of road. It is rather inconspicuous, but is to the left of the Technicolour club and sportsground: Parking is at the far end: And gives direct access to the track: Slalom slope is image centre. Overflow parking is in the park area a little further on from the track entrance and is open UNTIL 5:00pm. After this time it is locked! Toilets are located by this parking area and are also SHUT AT 5:00pm: Nearest food (apart from the park hut above) is from a small store at the far end of Springfield Road, over the dual carriageway. Alternatively there is a Burger King at the next road down towards Southall by the Retail Park: The approach to Southall after Spingfield Road is typically jammed with traffic, so the best exit is once again the M4 route. Best place for post race rendez-vous might be the regular haunt of the Queen's Arms in Kensington Click here for link, but this is open to change.
