Purple Skunk surely is the best skate shop out there! Since i am very landlocked over here in germany, i really depend on good longboard stuff. Lizzie and the whole crew gave me the very best information on their products and due to their friendly and patient replies i finally ordered the landyachtz DH Race....I couldn't believe it, but i received the parcel the week after i placed my order! I can heartly recommend this shop to all the people, worldwide.... I am sure that i will order some more stuff within the next weeks...
Summer is coming,
Dankeschön and peace out!

I found these guys online yesterday while searching for Bones Hardcore yellow bushings. They had the best price: $3.99. I ordered 4 sets yesterday afternoon. They were sitting on my desk when I came into the office this morning. Less than one day. I kid you not. That's shipping from San Luis Obispo to downtown Los Angeles. Oh yeah!

What more needs to be said? They know the need for bigger boards and realize all oldschoolers don't come in one size.

In Memory of Brian Rogers - Helmet Use

The Purple Skunk is onboard in promoting Universal Helmet Use. As of NOW, we will sell helmets at cost with the purchase of any complete so that dear Brian's death was not in vain, but a wakeup call to the skate community. This is the least we can do to avoid another tragedy in the skate world. Retailers, let's all jump on the bandwagon and make a special effort to promote helmet use to our customers. We're in the consumers face, so it's up to us to spread the awareness of protective lids. Thanks for listening.

skate team tours and shop support

An interesting thing happened recently. Our local park/shop, a privately owned ‘pay park’ was arranging for a tour stop with a big new school skateboard company. The company had told the management, if they ordered $XX of merchandise within a certain time frame, they would be added to the tour stops. After the order has been placed and most of it already sold, the skate company feels that a tour stop at a privately owned venture is not something they want to be part of. Also their allegiance rests with another shop, and they cant stop at our park because of business ‘nuances’ with the other shop.
There is an exceedingly large group of local kids that skate and shop at this park. They read the magazines, street skate, and buy these products and videos. They would definitely come to support this tour stop, they look up to this company. Sales for their product would soar locally, as the little kids (with parents’ money) bought the signature decks and such.
The newschool company is garbage, they are limiting their growth based on what they perceive as ‘real’ skaters versus grom fad level skaters. On top of this, they feel a pay park is not a good invironment.
I am thinking a boycott is in order. With the main reason being, the new school company simply does not want to support their customers unless they are of a certain skate personality type.
What is everyone’s take on this. On this board, there are lots of parents (old tranny skaters, downhill, freestyle, and slalom) that are dealing with our younger skaters that primarily street skate. How would you all feel if you knew a new school company was taking this sort of an approach which concerns their customer base?
As shop owners or company’s, how do you react to such an issue?

O.K... So I found out about Purple Skunk skate in Concrete Wave magazine. I visited their website with some questions, and after an almost immediate response from Lizzie I knew I had to hit the shop the next time I visited my sister in San Fransisco. WOW! Big kids toy store supreme.
I've gotten back into skating via longboards this last couple years, and have never seen such a selection of goodies. Did I mention Lizzie and the gang are friendly, knowledgeable, and cool!
The thing about their store I found most amazing, was the demo section. I mean, you won't believe the selection of ride before you buy combinations they have. I've wanted to switch gear and upgrade, but didn't know what to buy because no one I knew had the gear for me to ride. And I'm not going to buy blind and sit on the gear if I don't like it. So I know having such an extensive demo section is a big finacial commitment, but what a pay off for the customer. Thank you Purple Skunk!
I must have taken 8-10 boards out for a spin in the course of a half hour. And it really hepled me make up my mind on what to buy then, and in the future. Plus, it was a blast to just kick around the block on all those different set ups. This shop rocks! I will visit evry time I go to San Fransisco.
So if you're ever in the Bay area, you gotta hit the Skunk. You won't be disappointed. And all you other serious skate shops out there take heed! It's worth it for you to provide even just a few boards for your customers to ride, so they know what they want. You'll create rabid loyalty by doing so.
Thanks Lizzie and the rest of the crew at Purple Skunk!
...Just another mid-life kook trying to carve some turns and have a good time in this crazy stress filled world. Craig...Portalnd, Or.

Lizzie and Gang, It was simply an awesome and fun experience at your shop last friday! Never before have I seen a skateshop that had Abec 11's, 3DMs, Seismics, Landyachtzs, Fibreflexs, etc... on display! And I dont know any cooler sales folk than you or Eli. Being deaf, a lot of people freeze up and dont know how to "act" when dealing with us. But the way you guys were, it was as if we were friends for a long time. The world definitely needs more people of your kind. The purple skunk isnt just a skateshop, it is Mecca and a longboarder would know this just as soon as they step in the store. I wont be writing to Santa Claus any more since I will now go to your shop for all of my skating needs. And have some laughs too!
Stay fly, Mark P.S. the cutaway with 3DMs and biltins was really sweet!!

I think Purple Skunk sounds a lot like our own Brixton Cycles! (even to the point of me knowing they treat deaf customers like any other,Mark!) A great store, with enthusuatic staff. And a skatepark 20 feet away. Sounds like NY needs a 'purple Cycles' branch soon!
