2009 Worlds in Hood River
On 2/11/2009 Stryker wrote in from United States  (98.225.nnn.nnn)

The 2009 Slalom Skateboard World Championships will be in Hood River.July 17-19, 2009.This will mean ALL CSA members attending will be need to help out to make this event pull off and show the World that The CSA is a well ran group of dedicated racers.Gareth is a very busy man so. Let's post here with any info. and tasks that people are willing to volunteer to take on.If each person takes on just one task and see it through the whole event would work best. Like maybe 1 person be the one to set up the ramps each day. or course set-up( that would be 3-4 people), timing, schwag gathering, medals, barracades, hay bales,Cone heads and Cone Marshalling, Someone to put together a visitors packet with Race and area info.Race T-shirts need to be made. All these things need to be worked out way ahead of time. If each person does 1 thing this will be a smoothly ran event with no stress. Make housing arrangements soon. Rental Space will be limited and going quickly.

My 2 Cents and Ramp starts

Hey, I have an idea, if we have no ramps then how about push starting from all the way back from the bathrooms for those who really, really, REALLY have the need-for-speed? Just my 2 cents. -P

Ramps for the State Games
On 2/7/2009 Pat Chewning wrote in from United States  (24.21.nnn.nnn)

I am willing to use the ramps if they appear.

I am not promising them, since they seem very hard to obtain.

Last year (when I had money), I almost built some for the OSG.

This year (no money), I won't be building.

Calling Dan-O
On 2/5/2009 Paulskiivoxg wrote in from United States  (12.108.nnn.nnn)

Dan, call me at (541)754-7826 or email me back. I can't use the "name click email thingy" at the computers where I work.

I'm getting closer to having something for you. Just so you know, you'll need to buy arrows($60 to $100 per dozen depending on type and where you get them, Get WOOD with FEATHERS-not plastic and ask to have some "Spined for 40 to 45 lbs"), plus and arm guard($5.00 to $20.00)and a finger tab($5.00 to $8.00) plus preferably some sort of quiver to transport and keep your arrows in. I will be going to Eugene sometime and going by an archery store that carries all that stuff so I can pick it up for you if you want or you can probably find it up in your area. Let me know either way.

If you get it in your area, call the archery shops first, most of them WON'T have traditional archery supplies like wood arrows and you can save time and gas by calling around first.

The bow will be cheap. I'm making several at once until I get one from a good piece of wood that does what I want it to. The first one is only about 25 lbs pull so I doubt you want that one.

Schlater -Paul

CSA hello
On 1/19/2009 John Ravitch wrote in from United States  (70.231.nnn.nnn)

Hi CSA friends
Just a quick hello to say I really enjoyed racing with you all last year across the US of A. Definitely my favorite group of racers and community, along with other friends like Gib and my Norcal brethren. Hope to see you at events in the new year. Let me know if you are going to be down this way and if you plan to have some races up North - I will keep an eye on the contest calendar. For work I was in Paris and walked the Troc course on a rainy winter day - looked like 5'9" cones on center - too tight for my hybrid bones. Are any of you going this year? Have yet to get on a board since Antrim. This year I will be racing on the cheap - definitely Hood, perhaps one round of Salem or anything Pat/PW organizes. Feel free to ping me with any news at jravitch@ideo.com
Best
John

Gorge Games
On 1/19/2009 Judy wrote in from United States  (67.185.nnn.nnn)

Hey Everybody - we are actually still around over here on the dry side. It's no sunnier over here though - two straight weeks of gray with about a 4 hour sunshine break yesterday. I installed a full spectrum light on my desk so I can make believe! At least we aren't flooding though, so there is a bright side.

I'm filling in calendar and trying to get a handle on skate events and horse shows. Can somebody give me dates for Gorge Games?

I am psyched that I have no conflict for Oregon State Games - so Pat, you can count me in as one of your worker bees.

Mark says, "What's the deal with scheduling all these events in March before he's even home from Steamboat?" I don't know about you guys, but I'm not having much sympathy when he's posting 16" of fresh pow and sunshine in Steamboat as his Facebook weather report. It will be great to finally get him home in mid-April. Then you will see our smiling faces at the events again.

If anyone talks to Paul in Tri-Cities, let's see if we can session there at some point. I have three horse shows there and would love to combine some skating with riding :)

Master's age limit -- it was a joke
On 1/17/2009 Pat Chewning wrote in from United States  (24.21.nnn.nnn)

I was joking ....

I don't care how young the people are who I race against.

In fact, some of my most favorite and fun racing is with upcoming youngsters like Millie Chapman, Darrin Moy and Peter Ramirez.
I imagine that in about 8 years I'll be calling for a 60-year-old master's age limit.

Master's over 50
On 1/17/2009 Gib wrote in from United States  (76.25.nnn.nnn)

I"ll go with Norski's perspective. Master's racing over 50 sounds great to me. I have some vision that I am getting faster (sometimes). Racing against those 45 and up youngsters (and even competitive pros) is getting harder and harder.

Status of Hood River Race
On 1/16/2009 Pat Chewning wrote in from United States  (15.252.nnn.nnn)

The Gorge Games race has not been given a race status by the ISSA yet.

Petition Gary Fluit since he is running the status stuff this year.

A WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP race is a MAJOR points race in ISSA.

Last year's Gorge games was a MAJOR status race, but not WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS.

There are a number of people who would like to have the World Championships in Australia and as part of the IGSA downhill World Championships. But that effort seems stalled.

I helped Gareth fill out the application for the Gorge Games and this year I am not on the ISSA board of directors and am not on the sanctioning deciding body -- so I can't give you any more info.
