Brian, I think the Cosmic with Seismics is the better campus board. The shorter, tighter turning deck will have greater utility on narrow walks and tight turns, and the board will be small enough that you will be able to stash it under your seat in many classrooms (if you can't lean it against a wall, etc...)

I am an artist looking for blank longboard decks. I have done art on aluminum short decks, but I am more a longboarder myself. Is there a vendor out there who'd like to work with me, perhaps they could have sponsorship mention on the board somewhere. They could be shown in any of the exhibitions I have coming up in Raleigh, L.A., Miami, Portland. my website is copyrightsalter.com

Hey I just got a Powell-Peralta reissue Lance Mountain deck. Its a rad design, but on the bottom theres a little design that looks like two consumate V's in a backwards L. Can someone tell me what that is? Like a signature?
Remember, consumate V's.

Sector Nine Cosmic / Seismic Trucks

I'm getting a new board to cruise around campus next year. I'm either gonna get a Sector 9 Cosmic2 or a Super Cruiser. I really like the responsiveness of the cosmic 2, but I'm used to a slightly longer board so it's 38" size sorta pisses me off at times. Aside from just cruising, I carve up the occasional hill and do a ton of slides; I'm 5'11" and 140 lbs. My truck choices are either the Gullwing Army trucks that come with the sector nine completes or seismic 157mm. Which deck/truck setup do you think is best for my riding style? I think I'm leaning toward the Cosmic2 w/ the Seismics...anybody have any feedback on this setup? Thanks bros

I weigh around 125-130lbs, been looking at the pocket pistols slalom boards, I don't know what flex would work for me? Just trying to get back into wiggling around cones. Any advice would help. Thanks. I am riding an old sanat cruz hutson right now, it feels like a medium/stiff flex.

I was just looking through an older issue of Concrete Wave "Vol 2 No.4 Early Spring 2004" and in the "noteworthy" there is a product review for Outlaw Skates. I'd like yo get more information on this company and the boards pictured in particular. Anyone know of a website or an email for contact so i don't have to pay long distance or if they are even still around?

Hey, my longboard was recently stolen and I'm looking to upgrade to something better then my old sector 9. I never knew the exact length, but I rode Randall Trucks,i think,(180's), Bones:Swiss bearings and abec 11 wheels, i'm not sure on the size of the wheels. I'm looking into progressing in the sport itself, moving into those longer controled powerslides i've seen in videos and fun stuff like hang-5's.Any ideas or suggestions are very appreciated.THANX!

Duane, if you think the shape will work for you, Steve at Insect will definitely build the deck for your preferred flex. He got my Big Bug just right. The camber is really nice, peaking in a sweetspot ahead of the deck's center. He even placed the wheel wells in the right spot for my choice of trucks/wheels. Great board, mine is.

Fibreflex 44" kicktail

If you're really wanting a longboard, but dreaming of your old TeamRider, then Fibreflex's new 44" kicktailed board might interest you. They're not skinned with Botuff, like a TeamRider, but the 'glass is dyed in orange, blue or green. I picked one up and built it with RII 150's and Flashbacks on .400" risers (wheelbite at .250"). I think the new deck is listed on their site.

Fibreflex 'replacement'

Christine16, Solidskates still shows Re-Issue Fibreflex Teamriders for sale. This is the kicktail,all-arounder type of Fibreflex, but made exactly the way you remember them to be! Set it up with tracker Fulltracs or RTS's, and Flashbacks, and you've got an instant Time Machine.
On the longboard query, look into Insect or Comet skateboards, or in smaller sizes (Slalom + G.S.) consider the wood-cored Roe boards. Summit, Indiana, CEM, are also viable, flexy-ish glass+wood boards that are available from Europe, all high quality rides. With the Fibreflex decks you're looking at, the construction used makes them fairly stiff, and they're long, good for cruising definately, but not 'nimble'. The 'Funshape' is more versatile, as the kicktail can help out in quick, pedestrian-dodging moves and with ubran obstacles in general.

Fibreflex longboard options

I am a 35-year-old woman who was raised on a Fibreflex 28" board circa 1978. I quit riding a while back but have always missed it (my FF was stolen, grrrr). I want to get a longboard for transportation to work and around town and I can't decide which deck to go for. I definitely want another FF as there is really no other board for me. I am wavering between the 42" cutaway and the 43" fun shape. Any thoughts? Does the fun shape have a problem with wheel bite b/c no cutouts? Do you put risers on and how much? I'm looking at the completes at gearguys, I'd love to hear any and all opinions, thanks.

Insect Pintail Or?

Anyone have any comments on this deck? I'm starting to get back into longboarding after a couple of years of primarily park skating. My first deck 8 years ago was a Flexdex Pro 41 that my son now has at college. Except for the weight, I actually enjoy the dampened flex characteristics (not snappy) of that deck for driving through turns, and I'm now searching for a replacement. I know the Insects have camber, but I'm thinking this particular model (wheelbase is close to the Flexdex) might work if I'm able to order it in a softer flex than is usual for my 175 lbs.
Any other deck ideas that might fit the bill? To compare, I've briefly ridden the Comet Pin, Loaded Vanguard and the Bozi MBII, and they all seem significantly stiffer (and yes, it's true, more responsive - but not necessarily what I'm looking for) than the Flexdex.
Thanks very much! Duane

I'll have to toot my own and Scott Moore's horn again about the "Pauliwog" model from www.subsonicskateboards.com . I used it in competition for the first time in Mukliteo Washington on a tight course and won 1st Place where pumping was the main ingredient as the slope was'nt very steep, one had to work the course to get ahead. I used the board pictured in the "Future" section with the wood core, Carbon fibre diagonals and fibreglass top and bottom. This board pumped really well and manuevered easily through the cones. Thanks again to Scott Moore for making the deck and to Gareth Roe for holding a really fun race (despite 3 rain spells). -Adios, Paul
