Kash, I'd have to agree with your assessment.
From a slalom racing point of view, I think with better technique less help from the deck is needed...although I kinda feel like a little bit of flex makes the whole board a touch more dynamic to ride, and maybe gives a sense of forgiveness when your defensively soaking up speed with your legs...If you know what I mean??

Cool,,,thanks and understood,,,,,,,here's a question for tight slalom,,,
I've been using a PPS hybryd foam core,,,flex set for 160 lb person,,,,,,with my foot stance is basically over both front and back trucks,,,with this stance the board flex is minimal and/or unnoticeable........therefore I'm not benefiting anything from the flex,,,, make the board softer/flexier,,,I may have to much flex and pop off of the line thru the course or off the board completely.
Having seen some racers this past year using a wood core board,,(the axe board), kind of make sense,,,,all the energy from the rider is directly initiated thru the board ........resulting a faster speed thru the course ( as long as the racers technique is sound)???????

as the deck flexes the steering angle of the trucks progressively get steeper through the turn. The "ever tightening turn" is the accelerating force that keeps you going forward.....

Sorry to ask a silly question,,,,, but I'm familiar with board flex with snowboards,,but not as much with skateboards....
How does the flex of the board benefit a rider in slalom and giant slalom??????

though a re-issue, it's quite comfortable underfoot even for the tallest of riders. if one dislikes 'short', j. plummers'classical shape may surprise. i find it portable, appealing, & yeah whatever, nostalgic. seismics & grippins currently dress this slightly under-rated plank. two 1/8 inch shock pads buffers nicely.

I own three Flexdexs and think they are great. The board hugs the road completely differant than a wooden deck. For carving and sliding I find they wonderfull. I only need one so if people want they can get back to me.

i have one and it feels great underfoot but i have a few issues with mine. 1 it wheel bites with downhill randals. i wanted to run flys but it just isnt going to happen with the amount of wheelbite i get with gummies.
2 i got a defective board. it is delaminating in the middle. i inquired about it wanting a replacement but was told this problem had occured many times and the board would be fine. well i'm not too happy about having a delaminating board under foot at 50 mile an hour and i dont think anyone else would think different.
as for my opinion if you want to carve get another board. if you want to bomb it feels great but i'm certainly never going to buy another landyacht. i'm getting a rayne or a kebbek.

Dan, these decks are built for carving hills in cruise mode, standing toward center there's a 'saggy' flex that comes to life once you put some speed behind it and carve it like you're surfing. On flatland, it doesn't rebound as fast or as high as a cambered slalom deck or longboard, but it shines when you're into surfing the slope. The material is dense, it seems 2x as heavy as other decks the same size. Lasts forever, long as you don't nose or tail slam it. No longer selling any currently, but still have a collection and posted pics & impressions on this page: home.comcast.net/~jampet99/rides/gear01.html

I agree with more risers for no wheelbite. Also use some wedged risers with the fat end to the tail of the board. 10-20deg front and 5-10 back. This makes the front end turn more than the back and feels better.

Scott, first thing I would do is add a bit of riser. Other than that Swap out your front truck for an Race Track X It has a straight pivot for a quicker turning front. The RTS has a bent pivot, is more stable, and generally better suited to the rear. With the RTX you can a tighter front and still have it be very turny. What size wheels are you using? Hope this helps and good luck.

Help with my Mallard Set Up

Howdy all!
I am an old skool skate rat from the 70's. I was a huge slalom fan back in the day(had my first Hester Slalom with Special cut Road Riders, Gull Wing splits and wearing the cat eye Vuarnets before I could drive and evolved to a Sims Team Summer Ski in the 80's (lost these awesome works of art back in the 90's to a thief (My Powell Beamer and other Fibreflexs went with them). Just bought a 31 1/2" x 8 3/4" Fibreflex Mallard Model deck with Tracker Race Track S trucks and 77a Abec 11 wheels. Bearings are REDS (thinking about getting back on it!). I took it out today for the first time and noticed a nasty wheel rub on the front (which are canted towards the tail). What are your suggestions to fix? I weigh 230 and the deck is real stiff. My fixes would be to: Cant the front trucks forward, drill further up, adjust the riser height, change the trucks change the wheels or both. I do not want to tighten the bushings (it feels pretty smooth to this old dog right now, don't want it too tight for pumping around the block). Any ideas from the gurus out there. Any feedback will be appreciated.
Scott

I've only stepped on one Flexdex in my life -- a board maybe 32-33 inches long with a basic surfboard shape. It was saggy. The setup was less than optimal (small wheels and tight trucks) so I can't really comment on the ride. As I recall, it felt heavy for a smallish skateboard. My impression wasn't really favorable -- though it did LOOK kind of cool.

Chris, the first thing you should know is that landy won't be making any more drop races for 6 months. they say that the drop speed has a nicer concave anyway. you can trust it will be plenty stable, and i'm sure it carves as well as any other downhill board. -dan
