Chicks that Longboard. Earlier I had said that we need more girls in this sport. Well, I was at work the other night and what do I see but these two chicks with Longboards. I almost passed out. So I was talking to them and come to find out their roomate has one and one of their boyfriends does too. So no longer am I the only longboarder in this town. And our numbers keep increasing.
Keep bombing.

Regular readers have heard me harping this before .... but .... there has been a spate of posts on composite convex decks on the other forums. My question is has anyone tried exkates on a snappy flexi deck ? The deck I tried them on made them feel hideous, but is this just me. Also I still maintain with high turning truccks a stiff deck will work better. My theory is that the energy will get transferred to the trucks quicker than with a flex deck and the response will be more 'real' and controlable especially when you have to turn the trucks back to a straight line. With a convex flex composite deck I found it took too long to crank the trucks back .... Would love to hear other opinions on this though. Mind you I am talking high flex composites here not the sort of flexdex flex.

no matter what you do there will always be someone trying to bring you low, F~@# 'em. If someone wants to ride shortboards then great, let them do their own thing. As long as they don't interfere with your fun. Skateboarding should be for fun no matter what lenght board you ride.If they want to whine so what, like you said it won't change a thing.We'll keep on riding our longboards no matter what. You just keep up the positive vibe one day it will rub off. They will eventually see how much fun we're having and try it for themselves. Never let them bring you down.

Not the same. I'm pretty new to Texas; did most of my skating in Illinois and Florida, starting off on the ol' store-bought Nash and then the Powell-Peralta. Longboarding has been the renaissance of my skating life. Better late than never, and West of Austin is like a longboarder's dream come true. Greetings from the Hill Country!

Hey, Tommy P from Austin. Are you the same tommy that used to skate the Texas Pipeline with hubert back in the day? Where in the hell are all the old Houston and Beaumont skaters from the 70's/80's.

I saw a preview for a show on The Learning Channel called Speed
Demons. They showed some downhillers in the preview. I think it is
going to be on tonight at 10Eastern. I cannot guarantee that they will
do an actuall segment on speedboarders but it looked like a possibility.

Hey Sandy....
i got to thinking. Pretty much everyone on a longboard started on a short board sometime in the past....And when you were riding back in the day, you were a rebel. Skateboarding was (and still is) a rebel sport not recognized by the main stream. Now get this: Longboarding is totally ignored by the "main stream" shortboarders. Therefore, we the longboarders, are once again the rebels. I think that is pretty neat. All you shortboarders, keep ignoring us longboarders! We like it that way! Ok, just my two cents for the day.

Has anyone besides myself skated a Realwood board? I think that I haven't been on a better board, though I must admit loving my old Sector 9. Just looking for any comments, as I've never met someone else with one, which I think is sad, because they truly ride amazing.

I was just being sad about all of the juvenile flaming that's been going on in some of the other threads, and the apparent hostility of some shortboarders towards our fine sport but I had a thought that cheered me up somewhat: I think that this reaction and emotion PROVES that longboarding is seriously on the rise. Think about it: why would anyone go out of their way to hassle longboarders unless they thought that we were threatening their scene in some way? I think that longboarding will continue to grow in popularity for quite some time, and I expect that the more people get into it, the more shortboarders will whine about it. Not that their whining will change anything :)
