If Google ever gets around to re-crawling our site and indexes our older pages, I'll reactivate the 'Search Google/Ncdsa.com box'. Until then, the search results are nearly worthless since Google's current index is based on random Ncdsa posts-by-ip links. From everything I read, there's no influencing or predicting Google.

Now that Ncdsa.com's forum URLs are static we are starting to get crawled by various search engine bots who never before had access to our inner (older) pages. Some of these bots are putting a heavy load on our server which is slowing page-load times for everyone.
I'm working on further optimizations/upgrades to help alleviate the problem. Thanks for your patience in the mean time.

From the webmaster..
Ncdsa.com will soon be undergoing a global update to make its URL's easier to read, bookmark, and search. All gen_tab2.asp?CatID= type URLs will be replaced by new URLs that are both human-readable and contain the static page number range from oldest to newest. If you have bookmarks or web page links to our old style URLs, don't panic! Our web server will translate old style URLs into the new style automatically and forever.
Please bear with us if off-site links (i.e. URLs and linked images embedded in forum posts) are temporarily disrupted as we fine-tune all the new code. These changes are global in nature and there's always one or two things that we don't catch during development and testing that slips into produciton. Please email me at the link above if you notice any weirdness or bugs.

WT-That was a bad story all the way around. It is always a tragedy whenever someone dies at the cost of someone else.I have been taken out on the slopes before by my own friends and complete strangers it really pisses me off when my friends do it!! It is always when we ride close together and fast.I feel like more than half the time when I fall it is someone elses real fault.Everyone seem to assume alot on the slopes.Like, they really aren't stopping on this blind hill were they are endangering themselfs and the people rollin over the blind hill.I feel accidents do happen but, also there are a lot of people out there who think they can ride just because they have a board and have paid there lift ticket. So many people tend to ride terrain that is above their level.Just like the last time I was in Snowshoe a little girl barely 5 years old on skis coming down the terrain park stopping and falling all over the place. In this case if this little girl gets hurt who is to blame. In the other case if there was complete disreguard for any rules the teenager is already going to have to live with a heavy burden. Also communication on the slopes is key.Whenever I get close to someone or someone gets close to me I scream "on your left or right" we as extreme people sometimes are to deal extreme situations.Saying these thing I will say (God bless this poor person who was just trying to have fun and enjoy life.)RIP and may good rest her soul.

I don't find it at all alarming; I find it refreshing. After my wife, a beginner skier, was mowed down from behind the second time by an out-of-control skier she called it quits and I can't get her back on the slopes. Her knee is still whacked from where the last fat-ass, unapologetic jerk fell on her leg and hyper-extended it.
He didn't even stop to see if she was OK; he simply got up as quickly as he could and left the scene. Almost all of these accidents are never reported, and "there's never a Ski Patrol around when you need one" so the perps usually just skedaddle.

I heard about this today on the radio and looked it up on the web. It's scary. Remeber this the next time you drift off into outer space and walk out into a race course. Remember it if you decide to snake onto a course during practice and no one knows you're coming.
This is really alarming:
***********************
T een charged with manslaughter in fatal snowboard collision in Wyoming
JACKSON, Wyo. (AP) - A teenager accused of fatally injuring a skier with his snowboard on a slope has been charged with manslaughter.
Witnesses said Heather Donahue, 28, of Shrewsbury, Mass., was skiing slowly on an intermediate slope at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort last week when she allegedly was hit by the teen on a fast-moving snowboard.
Donahue died Friday at a hospital, apparently from head injuries.
Authorities did not identify the 16-year-old snowboarder, who also was charged Friday with reckless endangering. Teton County Sheriff's Sgt. Lloyd Funk said the county attorney would decide whether the teen should be tried as a juvenile or an adult. The manslaughter charge carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison.
The snowboarder suffered only minor injuries. He was released to an adult family friend and has returned home to Maryland, authorities said.

Snicker if you must - electric skateboards rock

Finally, an electric skateboard line for the masses, with a price just about anybody can afford and the high performance old timers have come to expect. Wouldn’t Henry Ford be proud?
Get ready for a full line of Raptor Series powerboards from Exkate to be released in the next few weeks. The Raptors are Chinese imports designed as an in-company rival to Exkate’s top selling X-24 powerboard, the granddaddy of electric skateboards long considered the “most expensive in the world.” Get yours today through Slide4less.com!
The Raptor Extreme 4.0 is manufactured by Exkate in China and sells retail for an exceptionally reasonable $499.99, or about half as much as the X-24. It is essentially the same board (40-inch longboard, fully proportional wireless remote control for acceleration and braking and a 400-watt motor, with a cruising range of 10 miles on a charge and speeds up to 15 miles per hour) but now the price is expected to make this board affordable to a mass market.
The Raptor line consists of four new boards: The 4.0 Extreme, Raptor 3.0, Raptor 2.2 and Raptor for Kids with retail prices ranging from $499.99 to $199.99. The two larger models (4.0 and 3.0) are available for purchase through www.slide4less.com and are suitable for use by adults. Contact us at 1-800-659-8731 for more information.
Slide4less has long supported technological innovations and market competition in motorized skateboard development. We can now offer the consumer a chance to select just the right board from a multitude of models, styles and prices and purchase it easily and directly from us on-line.
“The 4.0 and 3.0 will be out within the next 30 days and are carried by independent dealers, while the two smaller ones are in department stores,” said Exkate Owner Dave Kaplan. “All the Raptors are imported from China. This was purely about price because the market at $1,000 is really limited. At between $200 and $500, there is a huge market there.
“These boards now have a battery gauge built into all the models, which is a nice addition,” Kaplan said. “The two things people didn’t like about the older line of boards was price and weight and with these it’s a whole different animal. For example, the 4.0 weighs only 52 pounds and the 3.0 is 28 pounds. Portability was key, so you can pick it up, put it in a locker, carrying into a store…it fits everywhere.”
Kaplan noted the 3.0 has all the same electronics as the 4.0, with a variable throttle and brakes. The adult models have Exkate’s cool regenerative braking, meaning the remote trigger stops the board when pushed in reverse.
“They work very well and we went through a lot of testing to get to this point,” Kaplan said. “You know what happens when somebody gets on one of these? They come back smiling with that feeling of freedom only these powerboards can provide. People are already excited about it and they have a passion for this product. Before, our market was 25 to 40 year olds because that is who can afford to X-24. Now we’re going to have everybody riding these things.
“We’re still shipping the X-24 as well,” he added, “because people still want the super performance.”
These and other board styles are featured exclusively on a website devoted entirely to electric longboards: www.electriclongboards.com and are also available via www.slide4less.com.
All board designs offered for sale by Slide4less represent cutting-edge developments in electrical, remote-operated and compact vehicles. These are the only electric skateboards in the world to offer truly effective remote operation, a necessity for rider safety.
“Motorized boards will likely become the world’s most advanced vehicles with innovations that rival any other vehicle,” says Steve Steinberg of Slide4less and Segway of Oakland. “They are inherently dangerous, but sophisticated acceleration, braking and board control are key to making these machines effective for extreme sports enthusiasts.”
Steinberg notes that riders assume substantial risks with motorized boards, as with any other extreme sport. (Could that be a factor in the board’s wildly expanding popularity? Decide for yourself.)
“Remote, hands-free boards require a unique frequency and a handset system which uses the rider as the exclusive antennae in an attempt to eliminate interference, which can jeopardize a rider's ability to maintain balance and control,” he explained.
Given this, Steinberg predicts that “these extreme machines will offer a higher level of fun and excitement and the incredible precision-crafted electronics make them a reality for serious riders and extreme individuals.”
Stock Exkate X-24 boards feature a cruising range of 12 miles on a single battery charge, with custom, high-power Lithium battery packs available for purchase separately. The boards offer an out-of-box, blistering top speed of 22 miles per hour.
“These are the only vehicles in the world to give you a functional and safe wireless remote throttle and braking system, right at your fingertips,” says Slide4less and Segway of Oakland partner Darren Romar. “These skateboards are designed to emulate the feel and responsiveness that snowboarders and surfers love. This is an extreme sport that does not require waves, snow, wind or hills. People in the flatlands of the Midwest can have just as much fun on these boards as those living in hilly Sausalito, Calif. Maybe even more!”
Powerboards are one of the most environmentally friendly vehicles available on the market, with strikingly silent operation and zero emissions. It is snowboarding with no lift line, wakeboarding without a boat and skateboarding without your feet ever touching the ground. You just step on and accelerate! With the X-24 motor specially built to suit the powerboard, you can blast away to top speed in under four seconds. The extreme torque will easily pull you and a friend up the steepest hills, and the revolutionary longboard truck eliminates speed wobble while providing for an astonishing 10-foot turning radius. The unique bushings are formulated for the powerboard to absorb road shock while keeping you in firm control via the wireless hand controller.
Slide4less offers all new powerboard models and also pre-owned or refurbished boards for less. We carry natural-color decks and highly customized board styles including black, white and blue with blue tires; black, white and red with red tires; and natural wood with either red or blue tires.
All of our electric skateboards can be easily maneuvered through a crowd, yet can attain very high speeds. These are cutting-edge, hand-made electric vehicles with no expense spared. All parts are engineered and machined specifically for the board and not “adapted” from existing skateboard and electric vehicle parts.
You can test ride an electric skateboard for free. Contact us at 1-800-659-8731 for more information. And most importantly – Have Fun!
WARNING: These electric skateboards are designed to be high-speed, extreme machines and should be operated with extreme care. Interference from overhead high-voltage wires can interfere with operation under certain circumstances. We recommend operation in a wide-open area that has limited signal interference. Motorized skateboards are illegal on many public roads. Owners of these boards assume all risks of operation. Helmet, gloves, and leathers are highly recommended!

Hey Chris, Its 2:00 am in Aurora, Colorado. I'm just about as lit as I can be. My wife is a wonderful, long-suffering soul. She puts up with a lot of s**t from me. I have 5 kids, from almost 12 down to 5 months old. We finally figured out what the problem was and got the plumbing fixed. ;-) I miss my best bud Wolfy. He committed suicide about 26 years ago. He and I skated the CAP pipes together in 1978 when I went to school in Arizona. I'm still here. To this day I'm pissed at that son of a b***h for killing himself. I miss him the most out of all my skating buds because he accepted me w/o any condition. I had a deck. I rode it the best I could. In his eyes I wasn't a hodad. Our senior year in high school we skated a lot together. That was the year I broke my left arm the first time. I was trying to windskate using an old bedsheet. I was probably drunk or stoned. Who f**ken knows? Wolfy got the biggest kick out of that and told me I was the craziest son of a bitch he ever knew. The death of those we love is one of the hardest hurdles in life that the Lord puts in front of us. I've survived Wolfy's death and my Dad's death. They were within five years of each other. My best bud and my Dad. I was lost for a long time after Wolfy and my Dad's deathes. Years. I probably forced away the best woman I ever knew at that time because I couldn't take being close to anyone. Who knows? Skateboarding and rollerblading helped keep me sane. I came back to skateboarding after 13 or 14 years. My son, Ethan, brought me back in December 2004. My son and I skate together now. He's all heart. I love him more than I can express and he reminds me of Wolfy. You take good care. Peace and God's love on you bro. Cheers, Jack in Aurora

Hey all,
I already posted this on the slalom and pools and parks forum, but since I don't know who frequents what part of this site, I thought I'd better post this here also. Sorry if it's a repeat....Many thanks to those that have written in so far.
I'm looking for skaters who've led an interesting life "on board" that might be interested in getting a little media coverage. I'm currently writing for several magazines and websites and am always looking to promote those "lesser known" rippers. High profile types are welcome also.
I have primarily focused on female athletes up to this point but have recently had the time to start pro-moing the guys as well. Gary Holl was the first, surfer Matt Beacham is next, anyone else interested ? This will mostly done by email and phone unless you live somewhere in the bay area or I run into you at an event.
If interested, please email me at: info@sashalarochelle.com Thanx

New York Times Magazine article

For some reason I still think it's amazing when a mainstream publication like the New York Times (the Sunday magazine, in this case) covers skateboarding with the same seriousness that it does any other topic. It's come a long way from when ANY mention of skating would make you drop whatever you were doing and stare (anyone else remember the half-second-long snippet of vert skating that was on the intro to NBC's "Sportsworld" in the late '70s or early '80s?).
The following paragraphs are from the Feb. 6, 2005 issue of the New York Times Magazine. I don't want to copy & paste the whole thing. Online access is available at www.nytimes.com (registration required, but free).
''Beautiful Losers'' is an exhibition featuring more than 50 youngish artists who were and are, according to the show's catalog, ''influenced by skateboarding, graffiti, street fashion and independent music.'' It seems peculiar that skateboarding would be a prominent influence for a group of visual artists. But there is little question that over the decades this activity has been around, it has come to be at the center of a specific subculture, aesthetic and maybe even a worldview.
Mocking the cliches of the rebel-focused marketing strategies that sell sneakers, sodas and other trappings of the skater ''lifestyle'' makes sense for a company like Toy Machine. But there's something else going on here as well. Templeton recalls the skaters as the only high-school clique that would accept him. Aaron Rose, co-curator of ''Beautiful Losers,'' tells a similar story. And the catalog's introduction takes this community-of-outsiders notion to another level with references to the late 1950's beat heyday and by finding commonalities among figures from Barry McGee, the well-known street artist, to Spike Jonze. Maybe what Toy Machine's image really appeals to, intentionally or not, is a sense of community: it's not just the outsider activity, but the band of fellow-feeling outsiders to share it with.
