Or you could wipe your wood...

...with a moistened towel (massage it in good).

Gorilla Glue foams out as it dries wherever it isn't completely surrounded by material but this will not be an issue if the plys are clamped down tight. That's whats so amazing about using this glue with foam and wood combinations.

A little moisture in the wood actually helps some types of glue cure. I didnt realize gorrila glue was of this type.

Gorilla glue

Doesnt gorilla glue expand as it dries? I think it is great stuff but not sure how it will work between 11 plys.

Glue

Gorilla Glue is the Bomb.I'm a rep. and I recommend it on a daily basis. It really doesn't require a lot to be used.Just read and follow the directions on how to apply and use.Remember to mist the wood before you glue them together.

balsa
On 2/25/2005 herbn wrote in from United States  (64.12.nnn.nnn)

i took one of my stock shapes,i did a run of shop long boards to offer as blanks, really plain, but an accurate shape and drilled straight. They havn't been selling, maybe a pintail shape would sell better than a full clearence shape. A friend did a bit of abstract painting on a couple of them, still nothing. Well yesterday i took one of the boards, routed railgrabs, and beveled the edges, and truck pockets. It flexes more now,i'm gonna glass or carbon the area between the rail grabs, running the glass into the pockets but not to the edge of the board,i have nonstick plastic patterns for the rail grabs, i'll use those to press the glass in the pockets. Today i finally unpacket my balsa, i made a few patterns for top routing,i'm gonna lighten the area under the foot areas(from the top) and a central area between the rail grabs(also route from the top but more than halfway through the board, so carbon cloth under these sections of balsa will be under tension, acting as a lower layer of carbon. The balsa cut easy and clean.

pintails
On 2/21/2005 herbn wrote in from United States  (152.163.nnn.nnn)

a pintail would not be a throwback to the seventies, right? All the longboards from that era where all single kick maybe flat, but they all had enough tail to lever a kickturn. Which longboard companyu was the first to discard the tail and leave a board that is 100% carving purist?

shaping is the core of my designs
On 2/20/2005 psYch0Lloyd wrote in from United States  (24.148.nnn.nnn)

just got word from the hill that chef's got some strange things happenning at the very high speeds he's getting out there in cali. it's the important information like this from you can respect that feed the hunger to create.

sent me back to the drawing board which was really tough because i was almost finished with a core which in my mind became at that very moment virtually useless. this is the second core that i've bailed on in midstream, a previous one was already skinned when new features came into play. with great difficulty i was able to remove the outer carbon layer on the bottom with the hopes of changing the features but now this info changes the whole ball game. to be able to learn from ones mistakes and move forward is what it's all about (at least that's what i keep telling myself).

it wasn't difficult finding the fix that should compensate for the issue encounterd and a discussion with cnova who has an engineering background gave a better picture of how performance can be improved.

now it's time to lay up the new and improved version (again)...

Having Fun
On 2/19/2005 Jack in Aurora wrote in from United States  (207.69.nnn.nnn)

Having a blast. Just bought a 46" unfinished blank from http://www.e-surfshop.com/. The product is as promised. Baltic Birch 13 layer plywood, 46" long x 10" wide x 3/4" thick. I spent 3 hours this afternoon w/ my son modifying the wheelwells and finish sanding the board. I plan to rout out mortices to countersink the angled riser pads to keep the board as low as possible. I'm starting w/ Invader 950 trucks and 70MM 9-Balls. If I don't like the Invaders I'll switch them w/ Randal II 180's. I'm giving the board a natural finish, with a logo graphic I created today. Grip will be roll-on clear to show the beauty of the wood. When finished this board WILL be a sick throwback to a 1970's, flat as a pancake, longboard. I can't wait to ride it. The next one will be a study in quarter sawn maple veneer so I can get that that awesome tigerstripe effect.
Cheers,
Jack in Aurora

God rides a longboard.

So... Sidlo. You think you'll come to Luna this year? April 15-16... Would love it if you could make it. Should be a lot of fun. Gitcher Email fixed so we can talk, right? I'm really wanting to make it to St. Louis, Athens, we're going to skate the Bear next month, we'll miss the race, though... I don't know where else we'll make it to, I want to go to the Farm. Lemme hear from you.

Wide Belt Sander
On 2/19/2005 Lynn Kramer wrote in from United States  (66.27.nnn.nnn)

For sale, a 24" wide belt sander. Great for planing blanks to the correct thickness. You know just .010" makes the difference between a noodle and a great flex. You want this. (858) 274-9860 or email me.

Glue Dispenser
On 2/19/2005 Lynn Kramer wrote in from United States  (66.27.nnn.nnn)

I have a really cool glue dispenser for sale. It mixes epoxy resin and hardener in the correct ratio. It has a pneumatic foot petal so you'll need a compressor to run it. This beats the heck out of trying to pour glue from a 5 gallon bucket. Geared to a small production facility. Email me for details, or call my office, (858) 274-9860.

bamboozled
On 2/16/2005 psYch0Lloyd wrote in from United States  (198.160.nnn.nnn)

if you've ridden a gary cross commet you've been on bamboo. noticed another deck maker working w/the stuff lately, having come accross the fatboy site.

what one has to realize when working in bamboo is that it starts in a tubular form. understanding this wavilinear structure and the virtues in its construct is critical to any design application.

this brings us full circle to the incident on the road. one cannot injure the spirit incarnate whereas one can do damage to another with false claims. so if you really kill a buddha it is believed that he will return and may come back as your kid... always askin' for the carma.

And, oh ya, I'm an aspiring buddhist/anarchist, too, and I agree, if you see the buddha in the road...he's undead! Cause I already killed him, so kill him again! Blood-sucking monster! Maybe this should be under Soul Skating. ?

team fun
On 2/15/2005 psYch0Lloyd wrote in from United States  (198.160.nnn.nnn)

hey now john...

sorry but we got away from the big iron projects and now are stylin' in bamboo carbon and foam. we're doing something different but you wouldn't know by looking at it.

came to realize that if you want to improve on a process or do something really unique one has to respectfully consider all predicessors as having been in error.

hence, when you see the buddha on the road...

...kill him!
