I have just posted some pictures of some very nice old-school re-pro decks made by Evo. Three designs are shown; Alva, Stople, Sims...
hit hugh's longboarding off of the NCDSA links page

I think if my edge glue project works out even close to the way I imagine it ,graphics would be an eyesore ,Though I've considered a knock off of the old "SIMS PURE JUICE" logo in red ,just like the original.with the little bars on the sides like wings.

I am very interested to see how everyone's boards are turning out. We should start to post our pics or leave web site adresses so everyone can view them. I'm sure I'm not the only one that wants to see them.
Keepin the vibe

Nev, i noticed a few posts back that you mentioned that you used to make boards using New Zealand + Aussie hardwoods. What types did you use and what results did you get? As i,m having trouble finding maple veneers, maybey i could try something else.Cheers.

RooX,
You might try hobbie shops. Lots of guys use glass cloth on their model airplanes. Boat supply houses usually carry cloth on the roll for hull repairs. You might also try auto body shops. They might be willing to sell, or at least to turn you on to their distributor. If you have small airports near you that do plane repairs, they may be able to give you some direction too.
As a last resort you could try ordering online/mail order from one of the US hobby companys.
I have never been to Canada so... are you sure fiber glass is not considered a controlled substance?!? smile... smile... HR

anyone ever try to wood burn images and graffics into a deck?? it looks great, very relaxed look to it and you can get really detailed designs that look great.. im working on a 57" that has been my pet projects for the last while and im going to cover the entire top with hibiscuss flower burn ins. Should be nice.. but i have a question too, where are you guys getting your rolls of fiberglass cloth?? ive tried both home shops and automotive stores and niether have been much of a help.. im in canada at the moment and after all this discouragment im even considering crossingthe boarder and takinga trip to the US just to get it.. any help would be greatly appreciated as always. Cheers guys, RooX

Nev, theres only a few of us longboarding in Levin.Myself and one other mate have been making and riding our own boards for a coulpe of years now and theres a crew of about 5 guys and a couple of girls who are getting into it.We have a bowl which is basic, but fun on a longboard and a few hills.Theres some real good hills out in the country a bit but very big soft wheels are needed to ride the rough surface.A trip to Wellington is always rewarding. A set of indy,s retail for about $140nzd, decent wheels $90, bearings $40.Sector9 decks retail for $190 and completes $420, so you can see why we build our own.I,m not sure about a woodshop, i do my work at home. We surf up and around the coast of mainly lower north island, but i,ve lost touch with the weather lately so don,t know about any hurricanes. There,s snow around but i,m not too sure how much as i,ve only been boarding once, but hope to get up there some more in the near future. Cheers.

Does anyone know how to sandwich cloth onto the top of a deck? Do you put it underneath the fiberglass or what?

Made my own angled risers using very short lengths of hardwood which was pre-machined for use as skirting board. Your local timber merchant should have some off-cuts. The angle's about ten degrees.

Nick from New Zealand, these are the numbers,in inches, that my homemade wood risers come out to.Length,3-1/8",width 2-3/8",height at thick end 1/2",height at thin end 3/16",ramp angle 5.3 degrees.I use these under Indy's or Z-Rollers for speed boards.Since plastic is far easier to slice into thinner pieces,I would have you consider using the old Tracker or Cell Block 9/16" flat risers to make thin wedges,or steeper wedges, but that all depends on what you have to work with.Good luck, mate.

I just found someting really cool at a thrift shop. It's called a Sea Sled. It looks sort of like a cross between a toboggan and a waterski. It is just over 20 inches wide and about 62 inches long by about 3/4 inch thick, all marine grade plywood. The deal is that you would tie it behind a ski boat and hold onto the handle and ride it like a waterski. The thing is that at that length and width, I should be able to cut it down into two killer longskate decks. The way the nose slopes up, it will be perfect for kicktails. I'm probably going to make the first one 54" and then see how it holds up before I make the second one. 54" is a good length for me. Any longer than and it doesn't fit in the trunk of the car without putting the seat down. It only cost $10. I couldn't buy the wood for that. If you find one of these things, jump on it. I'll let you know how it goes. Later,
Chris

I've seen that you're interested in brakes. Check out Brakeboard.com for an interesting approach.

as for the hand held brakes... i know that Mountain Board Sports makes some for their boards, they are not normal longboards but maby the idea could be adapted
