CliffSlider Gloves
On 11/6/1999 Cliff Coleman wrote in from (209.162.nnn.nnn)

Herbn,

I saw your post on the Decks page. That's me in the blue hat with Adam at one of the NCDSA meets. As far as real gloves go, I've had "CliffSliders" for many years but didn't market them. I recently purchased my business licence and other necessary items so that I can finaly start to market these sliding gloves. I will have a web-ppage up soon and will be selling the gloves also.

At the "GRA" Giant Slalom race 11-21-99, I will have some available for sale. The day after the race I turn fifty. I can't think of a better way to celebrate.

Cliff

flag men
On 11/3/1999 mike wrote in from (207.41.nnn.nnn)

how does everyone go down hills and deal with the car issue?
they repaved an old road i use to go down when i was a kid.
at the time we had to carve full 180 arcs just to keep control.
but now i want to do an all out bomb but i would need flag men
at the bottom to stop the cars or have radio headsets to tell me
that a car is on it's way.

how does everyone else do it?

Been there, done that!I have a scar on my left arm that's close to ten years old that is still missing freckles! But if you want a good low friction material, may I refer Y'all to the last X Games in San Diego, where the Rollerbladers wore Lycra, and they slid for a LOOONG time!I noticed that the Skateboarders were wiser and used leathers, but then again,we are just crazy, not stupid!

Sliding armor

I feel the emergence of a new sport, one that involves a skateboard and a big hill just to get up a lot of speed, then freeform street diving for distance and style points.

sliding suit
On 10/31/1999 mike wrote in from (209.91.nnn.nnn)

i just made a sliding glove & sliding pants. (i'm still learning on the colman slide)
the pants were awsome. when i lost my slide i would end up on my rear. it was like i
was sliding on snow. these were 30+mph slides. this all gave me an idea.
i use to work with a type of expanded plastic sheet, very flexable. i thoough that
i could make a body suit to cover my regular clothes, like armor. then no mater how i
fell, while learning, i could keep my cloths from ripping off my body. : )

what does everyone think?

expanded metal is like the stuff they put over catwalks, but this is expanded plastic

sliding gloves

plastic cutting board can be fastened to gloves with countersunk rivets, or even truss head skateboard bolts.
The metal does give off sparks sometimes when sliding at night.

Sliding gloves
On 9/20/1999 HerbN wrote in from (207.198.nnn.nnn)

I've posted how to make slider gloves before, epoxy is not a good glue for leather or polyethelene (cutting board) the best way is to drill small holes and use a razerblade to make a channel to recess the shoelace you use to tie the plastic on the glove shoe goe or epoxy (if you must)is good for glueing the laces so they don't come loose.

sliding gloves
On 9/18/1999 brian wrote in from (192.52.nnn.nnn)

sliding gloves are reel easy to make: just get some thick work gloves, find a plastic cutting board a the hardware store or wherever, gt some epoxy, or some people recommend shoe goo, but i've never gotten a hold of any. cut the cutting board into two palm sized pieces. epoxy to glove. you may have to do that again after it dries. just peel off the cutting boartd then put more epoxy underneath. good luck sliding.

RE: Pads for downhill
On 8/28/1999 james wrote in from (209.162.nnn.nnn)

The best pads you can buy are definately pro desighned, they are spendy true, but last longer, and are much more relaible, and compfortable. I dont know where to get em accept for skatecraft, and pro desighned themselves. As for pop's... dads right, you can scrape your face off very easially, but i wouldn't recomend a mask. Just eye protection and a very (and i stress very) good helmet. As for wrist...you might like the harbingers better as adam wrote cause they make a more glove style covering. But besides your wrist, pro desighned all the way...

P.S. tail bone protectors never hurt anyone.

Leathers
On 8/27/1999 Adam wrote in from (63.192.nnn.nnn)

Jake,

If you're really going as fast as you claim you should be in full leathers with a good helmet. If you insist on pads-only, Harbingers are in a league of their own compared to the others you mentioned. Most lesser pads will quickly "relocate" away from the body joint they are supposed to be protecting once they contact the pavement.

Harbinger? Pro tech? TSI? Pro Designed? Rector?
The prices vary quite a bit, what are you getting for more money? Im doing downhill now up to 40 w/ no equipment, and I need to go faster, so I need a full setup, helmet/elbows/knees/wrists, do I really need a face mask? I ride w/ both hands out in front....My pops keeps tellin me im gonna eat shit n lose my face, I say face plants are unlikely...whos right?
thanx for any advice!

wrist guards
On 8/19/1999 Matt wrote in from (207.252.nnn.nnn)

I will not ride without them. I am a large person and I tend to catch myself on my hands, what can I say it's a reflex, so I need them. I landed pretty bad on my hands once without them and I couldn't use my left wrist for a week or so. Who cares how you look just wear them. If you don't then you'll look even dumber when your mom has to wipe your ass when you have two broken wrists.

wrist guards
On 8/18/1999 Bob wrote in from (192.73.nnn.nnn)

After 23 years of not wearing wrist guards and at least 20 sprained wrists, about 3 months ago I had the wrist sprain from hell. Took about 5 weeks to get better, but x-rays revealed no broken bones.

So I bought some wrist guards, and I really think they are great. They saved me from re-injuring that wrist for sure. Like most of us, I've seen a lot of broken wrist over the last 2 decades, and don't want one myself.
