Any see it on NBC yesterday? Dude -- looked like Biker took a nasty fall. I'm sure this is old news. I just like seeing the races, even if they are old. Its cool to have the events shot by a big network --you get some really good angles and views. Great sense of speed.

DOWNHILL MONSTERS INTL RACE

just a few words about the big international race that took place this wek end in Sao paulo brasil, that race was organized by the Association ABRADS, in collaboration with
RED BULL, Sector9 brasil, and many other sponsors and Medias,for the first time in the history of speedboarding in brasil there was a big price money of 2500$ and the race was really awesome and fast, around 60 mph max for the fastest guys, some riders told us that it looked like the american edi event of Santa Rosa, the very good and well trained brasilian guys like plinio, maia, yuppie etc...
made a big job and proved they could be as fast as riders like Manu and other big intl. riders, finally the result was 1-MANU 2-EDOUARDO di FIORI 3-MARCO AURELIO
That event was a qualification for the red bull DHX which is going to be hold in 2001 in Rio de Janeiro and brazilian
Everybody wants to thanks and congratulate MARCOS ANDREI
and his staff for the serious of their job and for making such an event.

to chaput for luge might i sugest some 76mm kriptos or 90mm labadas . and for stand up personally i would ride 70mm kryps . kryptos stick like nothing else and it helped the rogers to victory last year.

experience, watch that righthand hairpin or you will be

Kludy, My family and I are bringing a motorhome to park at Frank's. I've heard that the course is pretty hairball and that you've been rippin' it up. What's the chance of you showing me a good line up there? I'm doing standup, streetluge, buttboarding and inline so that I can see the course a bunch of imes in practice. have you been running Cherry Bombs, M-80's or Turbos? Any help from the master would be appreciated

race timing system

I have spoken to the Olympic commitie in Swiss about two days ago, we are being mailed soon about how we can make this happen

there needs to be one central governing body to start a federation with the rings, once I have further infomation on this, Badass will post it on our web site

at this time skateboarding is under the rollerskating federation body in spain, this can change, as soon as I have news you will all know

The French, Italian and spanish, Oly Feds support the sport, I have skated at their event in the past

At the end of the day all the Asc around the world will have to meet and decide on a way forward, I will say this is not something that I or BADASS would take on their own

making it through a hairpin standing

in order to make through a hairpin standing is incredibly hard . Especially if your racing . At barrett it's crucial to practic them because barrett has 2 and not the stickyest pavement . i spent most of saterday clearing debri from the first pin . i only road the coarse standing Bomb/carve and it was hard enough . however i got observe kludy and gary tackle them . these guys have ridden this course a ton of times. franks house (promoter)is literally a stones through away and i could clearly see them . they have it down to an art and were only air breaking briefly . may i suggest though that all newbies set up air braking then grab rails put foot down briefly , stand and tuck the turn.DONT TAKE THE TURN OR EVEN THAE WHOLE COURSE WITH A STONED OR HALF ASS ATTITUDE !!!!!!!!!! THERE AR ROCK WALLS ON THE OUTSIDE AND 100FT CLIFFS ON THE INSIDE!!!!!!! moNEY IS ON KLUDY :)

rules and regs will always play a part in sport. however, you must identify the purpose in the sport to define the rules and reg's.

i realy like the sport! my time at the seattle downhill was a blast and now i'm hooked. but the sport means more to me than that. it's a testing ground for new equipment. the NHRA circuit doesn't ban a custom camshaft because there weren't 100 made. what ever happened to hot rodding? i race my own prototype boards. i race my prototypes to fine tune my designs and decide on a production model. not the other way around..... racing serves a purpose for all fields of sport. it is a testing ground for new ideas and products. the racing industry benefits the rest of skateboarding in a huge way. faster bearings are being discovered. the trucks are becoming more stable. is this knowledge not beneficial to the rest of the industry? faster bearings and more stable trucks means bigger air in the pipe, less pushing in street courses and etc. speedboarding MUST continue to advance technologicaly for the sport to continue and grow.

as long as your safe, have control and am leaning to turn what the hell? give er!

Rules,what a concept!i guess the big picture is,are races to test technique,or equipment.Technique,like a gymnast on a pommel horse,might as wheel hand out stock equipment at the start, take them back at the finnish,try to prepare them as equally as possible and dispense them randomly.Are races to advance the technology of speed as its applied to a skateboard,no restrictions,only the very basic definition of a skateboard;lein to steer(all wheels steer)and standing on top(not inside or clipped onto),this seems closer to ideal,I think.If speedboarding contests were like racing your buds down the big hill,it woud be the most fun.You all chip in to get a permit to close the road for the day, and now you get to see who is the fastest,the guys from the next town are coming over too.Now if one of your friends was the first to get kryptonic reds,do you ban them?no,though it might be annoying if that rich kid from the next town got the first set.Now, wheel size and factory supported racers, that's kind of tricky,maybe it should need to be a production wheel,that anyone can/would buy,no custom 10 inch skateboard wheels,definitely no adapted bike wheels,that is sort of where this is going,isn't it?,or at least what they are avoiding.Define production?,100(0,0,0,0,add zeros until realistic) sets a year? some small companies might have a problem with that,while Labeda or whoever,would just make whatever it took to win the race,use them as a loss leader, knowing the publicity of winning races will make their normal wheels sell,ok so races are to sell product,not technique,not technology,you gotta use equipment that you're tring to sell(or close),no hobbiests,or scientists,just a bunch of capitolists.Alright,function,function,function, the three f's that should control things,if a controling committee of some sort,that somehow controls races doesn't want 5 inch wheels ,make it so they don't work,the key word is "work".Restricting helmets could go the same way,make them bigger and bigger and its gonna be some sort of pod you crawl into,aero sheathed legs sticking out the bottom.Do you have different classes,a plain clothes division,you know jeans and t-shirt ,so the race looks like skaters,and an unrestricted division so that race looks like the landing ramp for invading aliens.To limit equipment without actual rules you could have a giant slalom area,right after the push area,so you get up to speed,then swerve through a series of tight turns,nothing to hard,just making sure all the boards being used have a certain amount of manuverability, develope a certain amount of lateral g's(traction),then its tuck and point,either into the first turn or straight to the finnish of the most treacherous hill with asphalt on it.

Landingham helmets / Biker Sherlock, Roger Hickey/ Olympics

Landingham helmets have never been banned. Chris Chaput was wearing one at the last mammoth race, Manu last year at mammoth, and Orton the year before. I think all this trash talking should be left in the trash can.

Biker Sherlock and Roger Hickey have done more for our sport than any other people, and i will defend both of them to a point. All this talk about Biker this and Biker that is just stupid, and some is slanderous.

I think we should look ahead to the future, and if we are serious about our sport than the Olympics are the highest achievment. But our sport is far from there. Why?
Well Simon made a great point, there are too many organizations or the lack of ONE centralized - world wide organization with the talent to manage such a project.

kevlar leathers

craig kevlar leathers are as safe or safer than reg,leather they are also better fitting more comfortable and better aerodynamic, road racer are falling at excess of 150 mph and they say they hold up as good if not better than leather.as far as the landingham helmets they were band at the last mommath race but thanks to dr.go fast that has been taking care of the helmet are now legal un less chris chaput keeps beating biker (ha ha).
i just read e.d.i web site and the rules they have right now says that kevlar leathers are legal so i guess biker has not rewote the rules yet so chris you are still legal for now maybe you should let biker beat you once or twice so you can keep your leathers,kind of like a pool shark (haha)keep low go fast!!!

SKATEBOARD RACING - SPEEDBOARDING

In reading this stuff this is how I feel . Day 1 in racing downhill every rider helped me and showed me how to be competitive. You know what - I was told by one of the best, stand -up guys are family . It does not matter what side of the tracks you are on . We all have fun and put ON one great show every time we race. You may not care for BIKER but I tell you now he is a stand-up guy and does not want to see anyone hurt. If you beat him or whoever is on that day it is because you are a better rider that day, nothing more.KESSING and HARDWICK showed me time and time again it's the RIDER. Like it or not rules are there for safety , You may not feel the same as I do BUT THE PROS RUN WHAT FEELS GOOD AND WORK WTHIN THE RULES. We love to ride and winning or being the fastest is just a bonus. We ride hard we ride real - real fast and allways try to win. There are to many great riders racing for any one guy to '' TAKE OVER '' I do not live in the real world I live in KLUDYVILLE AND I LOVE IT . later gator

Rules and Regs

There are a number of good reasons to have well written and comprehensive rules in place for racing. First of all, the definition of a skateboard should be known and understood so that you don't bring something that wouldn't be safe or fair on the mountain. You'd be surprised at what some people bring. If you can imagine what a bouncing 60" supertanker (with weights added to it) in the middle of a narrow section of road would do to someone coming up on it at 60mph then you understand. A 4 inch wheel diameter limit, 12 pound weight limit, 48 inch x 12 inch deck limit "lean to turn" vehicle is a pretty commonly accepted standard. Eliminating sharp edges and "spears" is a good idea. Plastic baseplates and wheels without hubs are a bad idea as are thin cheap mounting bolts and nuts, no griptape, cracked decks, etc. Believe me, if you don't have the rulebook, it's chaos. You aren't just endangering yourself, you're taking out the pro(s) with the right equipment with you. I don't think you're going to find many "spec" races where everyone has to ride the exact same equipment, unless of course, everyone has to buy MY boards and MY wheels and MY trucks at my price ;) As long as the equipment is structurally sound and sized appropriately, it should be allowed.

With regard to the kevlar leathers, some people think that there is more than just liability to consider. Although Biker and I disagree on this point, I respect his reasons and beacause I want to race in all of the EDI events next season, I will comply with whatever the rules demand. He doesn't want to see everyone at a race in speedsuits because he doesn't think that that is what skateboarding is all about. I think that racing is but a small faction of skateboarding and that whatever makes you faster, without sacrificing safety, should be allowed. The kevlar leathers that I wear withstood a huge wipeout (hit from behind) in Seattle, but I broke my big toe, cracked a rib and sprained my wrist.

The best research and development for fast, strong, lightweight products result from the need for speed. Sure it takes money to buy or develop the best. It also takes hard work and determination. If you're not the wealthiest guy on the planet, prove to a sponsor that you are going faster than anyone on what you've got and tell them that you'll rule the world (or die trying) with their support. Also, just be glad you're not into streetluging, motorcycle racing, kart racing, dragsters, funny cars, indy cars or formula one, where the pricetags are huge by comparison.

In a perfect world there would be a gentlemen's agreement as to what racing is, what racers use, and what racers do. In the real world there are politics, misunderstandings, whining, lawyers and chaos. I live in the real world and I'm easy to spot. I'm the the one wearing the white hat ;)

Rules are very much needed when you put on a race, they give structure and help maintain order. Its when a rule/regulation is kept at a double standard that we have so many problems and issues.
