nice work h0dad.
on the same note, just got into a relationship - a few months in now - and i realize the importance of havin' a chic who understands how much i love carvin' the streets. she knows it's something that i probably won't get tired of doin' any time soon. it's funny, my girlfriend was talkin' to my bestfriend's wife, Jamie (my bestfriend andy, a fellow longboarder) and she told my girlfriend,
"sure there's times when i want to say, 'Don't go skating, how about we do something?' but i know that skating helps him reflect and think and that it's important to him. i married him for who he is, and that's part of who he is."
so now my girlfriend understands, and believes that there's hope for us after all. if more people were this understanding the world would be a better place. Jamie, thanks for the good words.

Whoa intense. The h0dad just terminated a 1.8 year relationship and found that in the free and selfish days that followed his skating was blowing down doors...got the edge back..

went out skatin today...its been so cold here lately, i hadn't been out in awhile. went to my favorite place, this trail in the middle of the woods, nicely paved, long, quiet, and full of hills, nothin extreme just relaxing fun, an escape from reality for a long hour. watched the sun go down through the trees while sailing down through the curved path carving in and out slowly ceasing as i near the bridge. brings back old memories, remember babe how much fun it was, i think about it now, how much better it was walkin back up the hill by your side...god it was great today, but with u its 10 times better...i don't want to be without you...you bring me to life...i miss the days at the beach...i miss takin out our boards whether the waves were head or ankle high...no pressure, just pure pleasure...things have been rough lately...but take me back, i'm still the same one you fell in love with still the same one you hit the hills and waves everyday with and held in your arms later on...i'm still the one you fell for, give me a chance to come back to life, and u 2...i miss you...u haven't been the same...lately you smile less...and b/c of it i do to...lets take a chance before the moment passes us by...lets live life now cuz 2morrows too late lovin you...missin you...rememberin the good times...come back there with me..."Where the sun is shining and the water's blue...Somewhere brighter on the other side...I saw inside of you things that others couldn't see...Now people put you down for the way that you lived But those people never knew you the way that I did" lovin you 4ever baby and then some

Your familie's poetically very inclined, Their writing is even wonderously timed I had planned to do Kafka readings today, But, instead, I've been forced to play. Riders and their lovers, thank you all, Today I'm flying -not walking- down the hall.
You have a great family, C-Money!

Then, not to be outdone, my 11-year-old daughter, Andie penned the following, also taped to the Afroman box:
"Box" By Andie Blair Kincaid
'Twas the day before tomarow [sic] and all to my sorrow I open the door and there's one more. It's Mark with a box (I'd rather have socks) Wake me up from this dream I couldn't have seen that one more box.

I just returned from a business trip, to find a box on my desk with the following poem (by the lovely Mrs. C-Money, Jackie) attached. BTW, Tasos, in that box was an Afroman Numbchuck (my 2nd one), this is 38.5" long, 9.5" wide of pure park riding joy. I highly recommend it. Anyway, on with my poem:
"Skinny Boxes" By Jackie Kincaid
Someone's knocking at my door I leave the mop right on the floor. Mr. Mark the mailman with a box! Oh boy, maybe for ME, this rocks! Return address reads "The West Coast?!!" Oh my word, what I fear most! It can't be, no! Tell me it's not true! Why does he need another one? I have no clue! Maybe the old ones are too slow? Could he hate the pictures on the old decks? They're boring or scratched, they look like heck? Maybe they're just not "cool" enough Actually, I think he just needs more "stuff." It doesn't matter what the reason 'cause it's not going to stop, no matter the season. Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall Skinny boxes, waiting, standing so tall.

steelwheelbob-i enjoyed reading your post. like others, finding skate pals of the past is such a rush. i wanted to ask you-what board would you recommend to me to pool ride in as a longboard. i rode a 44" sector 9 today with kick and all and it was great, but a little too long. i thought 38" would be perfect. i don't want it to fell or look like a short board at all. is 38" long enough for that? any ideas? peace to you ( iwas just reading today about russ in the concrete wave book-not that i didn't already know everything about him)

Greetings, I was wondering when the next issue of Int. Longboarder was comming out so I thought I would ask here. PsychoLloyd, your post caught my eye. It is great to connect with friends from the deep past. It just so happens that 3 of the 4 skaters that have been at it non-stop from the 50's live here in Santa Barbara. That would be Jim Fitzpatrick, 51, Jim O'Mahony, 56, and myself, 58. The fourth is Russ Howell, 51, he lives in Bosie. Back in the day, 1957 to 1965, we all lived in LA county and belonged to Surf Clubs that competed against each other. However we were not aware of this until the 90's! Fitz and I were members of neighbouring surf clubs and J.O. and I had belonged to the same surf club but a different times. We all knew Russ in the 70's and I saw J.O. at the Signal Hill Downhill Championships, he was the promoter. Then Russ and I lived in the same neighborhood in Long beach in '79 and '80 and skated and hung out together. Now Russ comes to Santa Barbara and skates with J.O. and I once in a while... but the 4 of us have never been together at the same time...ever, except maybe at some event in the 60's or 70's before we knew each other. The local entertainment paper here was going to do an article on the 4 of us as 'The Rolling Stones of Skateboarding'. I informed the dude at the paper that Russ would be here around Sept. 13th and that the 4 of us would do a photo session at the skate park. Well, Russ had a bad fall at the Cambria slalom event on the 10th and twisted his foot, and Bin and his bad boy's took out the towers on the 11th....that was too much for Russ, he cut his vacation short and beat it back to Bosie. So no "Rolling Stones" article this year. Fitz is an active soul carving longboarder and CEO of the Professional Skateboard Manufacturers Association and was the man behind getting the laws changed so we could all have skate parks in our local communities, J.O. lives across the street from the skate park and rip's it up everyday. He did a photo shoot with Scott Starr last week at the park for an ad for this device that goes on your back truck and sparks a lot when you grind, yes he can do phat grinds on coping. He was the editor of Skateboarding magazine for 2 years. Russ has his own skate park in his back yard and still rips freestyle and mega 360's and is active in developing skate parks in Idaho. In the last 4 contests I have been in, I have placed 1st , 1st, 4th, and 5th....in three of those events I used my 38" longboard 2x4 with the steel wheels. I'm now the CEO of WFSA and have a GRS chapter called Cal South that is planing a few things.
It is a great thing to have old friends to share memories with....and even greater to connect again and still have enough ability left to create new memories with. steelwheelBob

today i when to my local park on my pin tail and WOWed all the newschoolers. i got some looks like i was a kook but after i started skating that changed. i warmed up by doing some long, graceful g-turns and heelies. then i started doing 360's, i got up to about three. after that i busted out with some endovers and piroettes. then came my favorite trick, kickflips. people really started to trip on those, asking me how to do them and stuff. all in all it was great fun and a rather soulful session.

Skatin' can keep you young... ...at least it brings you back in touch with the friendships of your youth! In the past week I've reconnected with three very prominent people in my life from way back in the 70's. How many people can claim to have friends with that kind of history? (Now just to avoid all the people I pissed on, back then.)

...and I'll probably be sayin' the same things 30 some odd years from now.

Just wanted to say hi. Just found this list tonite, glad to see others who know the feelin. Im just gettin back in boarding after 20 years of being way to normal, growing young again, starting to board at anychance I get, noticing hills & smooth spots on the 30 mile drive home that Id never noticed til now. Nice to forget things & feel free for 2 min at at time .It was way cool & windy last fri nite, so I found a nice new 5 floor parkin garage to ride, no wind, 1/2 warm, quiet, just the clack clack of the cement joints.....got a few looks being a bit older & in a high end part of town, I just smiled & flew. Anyhoo, hey all.......Bozi

Jeez I thought to myself at work yesterday, having another mini-burnout. Wonder whats the weather up to, there's meant to be some swell...
www.metservice.co.nz/maps/tnz_1200_analysis.asp
...now since I live on the east coast of that bottom island, I lost rationality there for a while. It was like the movie Big Wednesday..a friend whom I'd not seen in 2.5 years pulls up outside, it was like we last surfed yesterday. We went down to the shore and feasted our eyes. It was breaking a million miles out like I'd never seen, sun reflecting in a long band off turquoise faces, spray plumes flying back as lips plunged slowly over forming dark shadows on the face. I have expended myself fully and today am really enjoying that coffee. Plan to pitch a tent on the shore tonight and take a glassy one tomorrow.

By the way, those bowl pics look great Mendino...you should take a big board in the faster bowls. I have had a 57" board up to the top of a 6` quarterpiped corner...yeah, you really have to get the board going fast, but there is no feeling like it when you are up there and horizontal!
