"Gravity Is God, worship in the style you chose." These are the words of a high priest of gravity, a ski instructor at Jackson Hole named Theo Meiners.
Gravity is the creator and destructor, the beginning and the end. After the Big Bang, all matter/energy was dispersed and gradually coalesced into stars and planets by the attraction of gravity. So our planet and its waters and atmosphere are all held together and kept in orbit around the warming sun by gravity. Thus life comes from gravity. Black holes are created and relentlessly draw in everything, attracting each other, and finally cause the utter collapse the universe and the renewal of the next Big Bang, in the Rhythm of the Cosmos.
We spend our lives struggling against gravity, to stand and walk and make our lives. We are always at risk of falling violently to earth.
Gravity provides the speed to glide down a hill and the friction to carve turns against as well as the threat of a wipe-out So, the various gravity powered sports take on a deeper and more spiritual significance. We seek "enlightenment" (getting less heavy?) and elation, and risk our health and lives. Seeking a harmonious balance between speed and inertia, between friction and freedom, between earth and sky, we enter a state of physical meditation on the most basic force in the universe, and worship Gravity.

Baby, you're a rich man! Ah, yes! Headed out at about 1:20 on my birthday yesterday (That's on sleep ago, though I was still up from the night before, so the sixth; it's currently about one-thirty in the morning on the seventh here). Within two hours of turning 20, I had: bombed a new hill, bombed an old on, and wiped out. But not badly. Hurrah for the Longboard!

So i was out and about riding today. I was looking for new spots in the surrounding area. I found a great hill with my buddy and we wet dow. It was really fast, and pretty sweet. On the walk up I hear the sound of thane on cement coming at us...out of nowhere a luge comes flying around the corner at 65 mph( i found that out later). When he got a lift back up he offered us one, seeing our boards. We rode with this guy Scott for a couple of hours, I thought i went fast when I bombed hills, this guys blew my doors off when he flew buy. We had the street lined with kids in 10 min, just kept takinh runs down this fast hill with 3 90 degree turns. What a rush. so yeah, he was flying down all of the hills, i oculd barely keep him in sight.....whew. Anyway, thats all for now.

hey guys the weekend pumped with swell, the link is to a clip of spot that broke last year on a swell half the size(just to give you an idea of the size) it is the biggest surf spot in Africa and is a whole ten minutes from my house. http://www.wavescape.co.za/MM/clip 007.mpg it was breaking 1 kilometer further out than on this day. On a further note I have been banned from surfing for the next month by my doctor because I got stabbed in the ear with an earbud and burst my eardrum.

first time I have seen anyone mention soap shoes, i love mine, my knees hate them( massive strain when sliding huge, steep rails), but they sure are fun.

hodad....the french do it with style but weren't the first, a radical dance company from the uk did it at the edinburgh festival in about 1982-83...."reactionary effects of bauhausian youth" or something like that...you can buy shoes now with recessed soles for sliding poles, wall walking and handrails...and the bbc features a dude doing rooftop grooves between programming.

h0dad was watching the tv last night and saw something that has him verry excited...you guys know the spiderman movie that 's out right now?
Some french guys have an extreme urban sport that has that essence; dressed in their three stripe adidas and trainers (you know the sporty hip hop B-boy look thats popular over there), groups of these guys take off across the city and express themselves upon the concrete archology.
They were the coolest, purest extremest that h0dad has ever seen. Disciplined, athletic. Four were shown in a segment running a rooftop course, hurdling air vents, ducking through a hole in a concrete wall, running up an embankment, jumping across to another roof, tumbling, up, spin, around a pole, over a rail, etc.
The emphasis was on style, not danger. It was so like h0dad's ideal of skating. They were talking about things like "moving art" etc. And they taught classes in this art to local youth, that was a particularly good part.
The class would go and rock out in the city at night, sliding bannisters in malls, oh yeah yeah yeah. Very much the vibe of breakdancing in fact.
If anybody knows of the name of this, please let h0dad know.
Inspired h0dads skating big time.

Sharon, Surface Motion is a great site, Keith really knows his stuff and shares his knowledge with us all. Checkout the section on Drop-knee carves, its great! If you want to get more tips you can also checkout the StillStoked web zine. There is a ton of tips,(with video clips) plus they have some cool stories, and plenty of stuff to get you stoked to surf-skate. Bye-Bye..... Hey Mikez, how many waves did you score? Tons I hope!!! __________________//////////////////__ ________bObO___________

It's been nearly 3 months since my Doc shut my skating down due to some heart problems (go figure). Having recently been given the green light to ride again I started back at it yesterday morning. I got up at 5:30am, broke out my little 57" Ed Economy Bankrider and hit the street. I live on a hill that's 9 blocks long and was repaved about a month ago. I could only do about 45mins. of carving and dealing with the walk back up before my calves were cramping. This morning I didn't even last that long, but I can't even say how good it is to be skating again. Thrownin' little standup slides and hard carving. It's the best way to start the day.

sharon - great link!
when folly beach was first announced, i had only planned on riding longboard slalom - but how can you pass up the opportunity to skate in each event! well, except for 360's.....i don't think "1" would give me a chance - but i can't wait to watch some spinnin'!
i hope to see the freestyle event encompass many genres of skateboarding
is anyone planning on wearing a sequined jump suit?
