Remember last time you've seen something you know you're not supposed to? Jaw drops, eyes bug out, and you say "NO F*%^$&$ WAY!!!" Happened a couple weekends ago watching Dong come screaming down a tight-ish hybrid course I set, clipping only 1 cone. Nobody ran that course clean that day, it was meant to be tough. The main thing was that he was FLYING through the offsets - yet I didn't hear any wheel chirps, sliding or grinding sounds. Whaaaaa?...then I noticed....the wheels were BIG RETRO TEST GUMMIES in LIME AND LEMON!!
Chaput -- when are these comin' out!?!?!

Abec 11Gumballs on a sector 9

I wanted to get a board set-up that would be able to pump like crazy yet still be a descent cruise board. I was thinking a Sector 9 Sumatra 34", Randal II 150mm, and ABEC 11 Gumballs(75A). I wasn't sure if the 150mm's would be too small for the wide gumballs. The Sumatra has forward truck holes though that might allow enough room to prevent wheel bite. What does everyone think?

The old blue Kryptos are still being made. They are just under a new name. Landyachtz sells them and they are called Hawgs, available in 80a or 82a.

I'm looking for some really big sideset wheels. Anyone know which ones are the biggest? I'd love some old Abec 11's before they went down to 97, but I think they're center sets, right?

I have to say Abec11 wheels are the best wheels on the market for all your skateboarding needs. We just started to sell these wheels and I'll tell you what I should have 3 years ago. Thank you Chris.

I've been wanting to try the new shape flywheels and strikers, but I have this magic set of blue kryptos that is completely fuc&ked and coned and grainy, but they work... I've used them at the last three races(pre race practise, race pratise qualifying and races), and they just seem to be working. I think the magic is in the fact that I know exactly when they are going to let go and that kryptos slide sooooooo smoooooothly...(can you say directional control?) beautiful beautiful beautiful

Personnaly I'd go soft on the Gumballs. We have the reflex formula pink ones coming very shortly, which combine the great Gumball mass with the newer reflex formula.
Softer does not mean slower with todays wheels. The hill at Bude ofr instance was faster on 75as than harder duros.

Embrace the freaks. They're inheriting the earth. I'm not worried about how they'll perform at your race. I'm worried that they won't even be allowed on the course at SLOW races, but confident that they'll work well at FAST races. It's not a fashion show, it's a race.
SLOW = Skaters who Look at what Others Wear FAST = Federation for the Advancement of Skateboard Technology

Chris...rather that worry about the fight, why not buils some, fly to Colorado in april and give them a shot in a race where I have decided to let it happen? letdsee how they work...if they dontwe dont even need to waste the bandwidth on the topic...if they do...well then the fight is on one again! We still dont have a prize sponsor for the experimental division at the race...Mabye Abec11 would like to throw down and be known as the "experimental innovator sponsoring Slaolm skateboarding?"
I am interseted to see how the splits work...and personally, I have no problem with that idea...its something fairly inexpensive, it does not look freekish from a distance (not as scary to newbies or kids) and can be done in your basement or garage, without buying more Radikals or Splitfires..(yes, I know 6 wheelers can be made from Trackers and Indys).

Split Wheels

Hey Herbn, I'm just pointing out how technical rules have to be when race promoters start banning equipment. If they ban fairings, racers will make the shape of the chassis aero (and it got more expensive to be aero). If they ban double-consumer wheel setups, racers will make custom race wheels (and it got more expensive to gain traction). If they lower weight limits, racers will use exotic materials, etc. Every time that something is banned, the price to stay competitive goes up, not down. It's counterintuitive, because often times they are banning equipment to try and keep racing cheap. It never works.
So anyway, if a rule was put in place that banned boards with more than four wheels, the question would come up about split-wheels. Maybe they're okay because there are only two trucks and two axles? Maybe it's not okay because there are 8 surfaces that can spin independently of one another? If you limited the bearings, racers could work around that and still get 8 wheels on the track. So the question remains, is a split wheel one or two wheels. I can see it either way.

listen,i'm not antichaput and by no means anti progression, if it were up to me you could do anything to the board ,trucks wheels ect aero attachments, foot hooks, wheelcovers, truck fairings ,airdams, extra wheels that run only on extreme flatsliding corners, who cares, gravity is your motor there's the finnishline get amove on it. but they'rd probabely be jumps and berms,on the way,i'd like to see DH skatercross. For now, if you want a wheel that wide you should probabely make it, and make it available to people who ride against you,i think the idea is that a racer shouldn't need to be a machinist/handyman,or have a team of techinicans on their payroll, plop down the amex and go to the races, pay the bill with the winnings.

So if I put mono-bearings in each of the two wheels on all four corners, you'd honor that 8 wheeler with the title "skateboard". Hope spring eternal.

you got the 20 dollar handheld or the 120 dollar table version? if i were a judge and i had it out for innovation, chris chaput or both,i would define a skate board as having two wheels on each truck one truck at each end and each wheel having only two bearings.

dont forget if you do glue them, its not for life. one could easily use a fine air saw to seperate the haves , take out the old glue, clean or swap out bearings, and re glue. BAM! good as new!
