So, you say there is no machine that mass produces wheels on an (semi) automatic way, molds are individually filled by hand from some sort of urithane mixing /dispenser similar to a west systems epoxy dispenser?

Wheels aren't made by a machine, per se. A mold is made on a machine and then urethane is poured into the mold to make the wheel. you can make wheels two feet wide if you want. But standard trucks have a limit for how wide a center-set or off-set wheel can be since it has to fit without hitting the hanger. Anyhow...urethane wheels sometime have problems with the plastic hubs, including abec 11. Wanna see some pics of my Noskoolz? If you have a problem with a wheel, contact the company owner (if he hasn't run away and joined the circus), and they are all really good about replacing them.

i know your not supposed to bash the small manu's that support this sport. How about a heads up?or is everybody supposed to buy wheels that have problems and sort it out in returns? In these days of internet sales, sight unseen, manufacturers sure would like this, ups loves it too. I have to hassle with sending back some speed vents, one looks like it cracked and then "healed" and it wobbles pretty bad a second one also wobbles, two are ok,but not really up to abec 11 standards it would be odd if they were made at the same factory, they are exactly the same width as bigzigs you would think a millimeter wider or narrower just to different. Exactly the same width like that's as wide as the wheel machine can do,and it's the same machine, different mold different core. maybe it's the same model of machine in a different factory.

PSR, the 101's I was talking about were 101mm wheels not trucks,I still like the old gullwing truck design cause of the angle allows the truck to pivot for road debris and if you remember-RadPads- riser pads that were angled about 22 degrees not sure of the exact angle and could be turned around for differant responses, / \ \ / etc., and they were made of rubber.later.

Russ, Indy '101's are kinda hard to find, but still an Indy. A similar truck now out is Tracker's RTX, which is so close to an Indy that you can swap hanger/bases at will. The RTS is a 'stable' geometry that uses a 'Dart' or old-school 'Gnarly' Tracker bent-pivot type of base/hanger, not compatible with Indy's or RTX's in parts swapping, but good as a rear truck most anywhere. Widths are 110mm, 129mm, and 149mm for the RTS and RTX Trackers. Bennett is also back with "Vectors" in two widths. So, yeah, Retro is 'In' again, and I hope the NewSchoolers learn to TURN this time!
Hizzout, I think that PowerPaw went under a few years back, so they'll be hard to find now. Look to Abec 11 or Seismic for that big sticky fast wheel fix. Those two companies have great selections in wheels, although neither makes Aluminium cores. I tried, I really did, but my shapes for new Paws weren't enough, nor in time to keep stuff rollin'.

Hey everyone. I used to post here all the time about 5 or 6 years ago. I took a long break from riding...got married, kid on the way, steady job...life happens you know? Anyhoo went riding the other day and it felt good to be back.
One of my decks has a set of 70mm 78a red Power Paw Aluminators but they're in pretty sad shape. I haven't seen these wheels for sale anywhere lately and they have been, and still are my favorite wheels of all time. Anyone know if they're still being made/sold and if so where I can get a set?
Thanks in advance

I don't know if I can "return" to riding since I had an ulcer surgery exactly 100 days ago and it feels like its acting up again, but i did like lookin at the old alligator wheels, and g&s fiberflex boards,(flashback)(ok). Are the 101's still made? I might go with the 85mm seismic whites @ $37. and try some of the ceramic bearings, and all that goes on my wish list. lol, later.

Russ, Logan's are back, kinda... Gravity longboards makes a laminate repro that's very sweet, and I believe I've seen them in larger sizes(34"?), too. You picked a good time to 'return' to skating, as what's 'retro' is new again, and there's stuff out there I didn't think I'd ever see in New Condition ever again, not even on Ebay! ;-) Check out Solidskates, Sk8Supply, or MileHigh online stores for some of the goodies now available. As for wheels, recall a guy who used to skate for Caster, Chris Chaput? He made the 101's, and has these wheel companies; ABEC 11, Pink, and Retro. I had a little input into the 'No Skools' wheel (think Powerflex 9's with centered bearings and a core), but I think you'll dig the Flashbacks as well. Kinda wide, but ideal for cruising with some speed.

thanx PSR, I,d like to see 101mm's,I guess I need to go shopping, it's been between 15 to 20 years since I rode around , all the tricks are different, I used 65 mm wheels on a bruce logan earth ski board w/ rad pad risers and gullwing silver, yes it has been awhile but back then went to a party with Tony Alva, he was wasted. later.

Russ, it's all about the kickflip. Rolling weight, that's the first reason for smaller wheels, and then quicker acceleration (well, to a point)and quicker deccelration, which helps control speeds (Eek) Without Turning. Thus, hard, small wheels are the antithesis of Longboarding Wheels. It's also why my smallest wheels are 55mm, biggest ones are 101mm, avg. size is somewhere around 71mm in my quiver. ;-)

Why are today's skateboard wheels so tiny ,Is it the saftey council, or just a really bad and long drawn out fad ?

i dont know if this is an issue with abec 11s, but there have been cases of krypto classics "exploding" because a bubble within the wheel was full of air, and at a speed, the wheel got hot from the friction, causing the air in the bubble to expand. this caused the wheel to be blown apart!!!!i have seen pics of this over on the 'fish. someone on the kebbek team experienced this, ian comishin i believe.

evanc. go ride your flys and enjoy. the likelyhood of a bubble being the cause of flatspotting is between sweet FA and nil. :)

Try your local skate shop for rejects, similar. Go to the local skate park ask around for used xtras. Ebay has lots of wheels for $10 approx w/freight, but no sealed bearings. Hope this helps... Vintage Man

i've ridden 75a and 78a abec 11 gumballs and have loved them. i bought 90mm 75a flywheels because i was satisfied with my previous experiances with abec11's quality and i wanted a huge wheel for my landyachtz evo. My flywheels have air bubbles everywhere on the inside of the wheel that can be clearly seen visually. does anyone think this is a big problem when it comes to sliding and could result in major flatspotting?

I have a set of blue 65mm Rollos. 78a I think. Bought 'em at a rollerskate shop 7-8 years ago after reading some online hype. They're nothing special.. no better than 65mm flat back Kryptonics, maybe worse.
Any certainly no match for any recent DH or slalom race wheel.

Sawisback, Rollo's are from the late 80's in design, but have been made as recently as 2005, made as an Outdoor Quadskate wheel. They're one of JG's fave urban trans wheels, as they're fairly fast, with predictable, not outstanding, but predictable grip. They're pretty resilient, too, taking on rough tar pretty well. They'll need 8mm wide bearing spacers as the core is narrower than the 10mm standard spacers. There's enough longboard shops that geared up with those spacers when Stingers/LaCostas came out that you should find them easily. If not, check in at a RollerRink, but be sure you get 8mm X 8mm spacers, as Quadskates often use 7mm diam. axles. I wouldn't use them for skateboard Slalom (well, maybe on a period-vintage set-up) as they're outclassed by anything made for racing after 2003, but as a longboard/old school cruiser wheel, they should be fine.

According to SolidSkate, 3DM Avilas are 72A in solid red, 73A in 'Road Rider Red'. In Avalons, it's like 74A S.R., and 76A in R.R.R., different by a few duro points in Cambrias as well.
