Thanks for the info Dan, Unfortunately I'm not real familiar with all the names of the people that you threw out on your last thread, since Iv'e been out of skateboarding for almost 6 years now. It would be cool to meet some of these people and you some day. Lynn was a great teacher, brother and freind. I breifely got in contact with him over the phone one night in October 2003, and planned on catching up on old news, but it never happened, he's probably busy. I think it would be cool to jam with him againone day too. Thanks for the compliment on the videos. Sincerely, John

John, I had the good fortune to run into Lynn Cooper at "The Grind For Life" in West Palm Beach Florida a few weeks back. He is total class! I'd been using an older Reverse Freestyle deck that was the closest thing to the old Rodney "Mutt" model that I could find. Indy 109s and a 20 year old set of Powell freestyles! Lynn let me try his setup and I hit 3/4 flip to edge... and edge to edge so easy that you would swear the deck was designed just for me! I just had to have one that day! Thanks Lynn! We've had 3 freestyle contests this year with notables like Frank Lee and Will Sullivan and I'm sure we should equal that number of contests next year. Big thanks should go to Mike Rogers (MR's Skateshop OelsnerYMCA Skatepark) and Steve Marinak (FloridaSkater.com) for promoting Freestyle and all skating in our area. Check out the FloridaSkater.com web site to see what we're all about. It’s got links to photos/Tim's Vintage and MR's sites and ton more.

wheels, yes, a big thing. I met George Powell 1.5 yrs. ago in Germany and asked him to make some Freestyle wheels even w/o graphics; sent him an e-mail again, but no answer. I believe that they still have the molds, so it would be not a big problem. After that I looked for alternatives and have found some great freestyle figure skating wheels which are made by Roll Line. YOu can see them on my webpage in the 'products' section. They are 2mm less wide than the first Powell Freestyle wheels with almost the same shape.

Hi everyone, John Trimble here. Don't know if you know me or not, But I was the near reigning champion in my age division, Factory sponsored group for about 5 years in California. I also placed 9th in the nation at the Arizona championships, (Terror at the Towers) competition in 1989. I was about 13 at the time and had beaten around 25 other people almost twice my age that day. I worked very hard for that significant day for a lot of Freestyle skateboarders around the world. It was a good and fun time for a lot of people, and was also a big moment for me. Now that I'm done bragging, It's really unfortunate that freestyle competitions were stopped all together in C.A.S.L. and N.S.A. The year I was planning on turning pro, was when they decided to stop all freestyle contests. Shortly after that I lost all my sponsors, which I asume all if not most other freestylers did so as well. I decided to get into painting, so now I have my own mural painting business, and I'm going into graphic design as well. I f any of you are intersted, you may take a look at the web sit I developed using Flash, Dream weaver, Photo shop and Illustrator, as well as Movie editing software. You may take a look at my art work or you may be interested in viewing quick movie clips of me in past freestyle contests and 1 commercial so far. (Popsicle Twister). There is also a short movie clip tribute to Lynn Cooper since he was not only my brother inlaw at the time but he was also a big inspiration to me. You can visit my web sit at www.artistitouch.biz and to see the video clips and photos that Lynn Cooper and other epople took of me Skateboarding snowboarding and snorkeling, you may visit it at www.artistitouch.biz/Talents.html or you can simply go directly to the Kids portion of the web site then click on the Sports and Hobbies fish icon to get you there. Hope everyone is doing well, and If anybody knows when and where the next freestyle competition will be held please let me know. I'm still young enogh to compete where I won't hurt my self. Thanks and God bless. John Trimble

I would buy some in the old Powell shape. The shape they used at the end...the one with the graphics that contained many skulls...I'm not interested in the graphics just the shape....oh and in a 97A...I think the wheels was 57mm.

There will be a flatland freestyle jam at Venice Beach California on Saturday, December 27th. The jam site is right next to the "plaza skatepark" on the beach near Windward Av.
The Jam will generally be from noon to 4:00pm, some skaters come early and stay later, so just show up when you can. The plaza skatepark is cool, a big round open concrete area with a few boxes, ledges and small transitions, so bring your street board also. Photos will be posted on www.noicing.com
To get to Venice Beach ( North of LAX ) from the 405 San Diego FWY. Exit Venice Blvd and go west. For some reason Venice Blvd. splits in two, stay to the right and it will become No. Venice Blvd. stay on that and watch for Venice Way then take that off to the right. You will end up at Pacific and Windward. Windward dead ends at the strand. The jam site is out past all the lawns and slightly off to the right, just left of the little plaza skatepark. Hope to see some new faces and out-of-town visitors there.

Bob, thanks. Sounds like what AJ/JJ are doing is exactly what I did from 1980-1985. We did freestyle demos by the dozens at schools, shopping/strip malls and other street fairs. Hey I even remeber skating in the Macy's Day parade...I'm slowely getting back into riding my freestyle board...I'm a little rusty but not too bad. I appreciate all the input on current decks available that will work for rail tricks, 50-50's etc.
thanks, -g-

Thanx Gary. I would also like to mention, as a way of introduction, that the skaters that responded to your request , J.J.O'Donnell, Terry Synnott, and John Sargent are among the cream of the east coast crop of new generation freestylers and activists. Several other skaters that have posted here recently, Joe Humeres, and A.J. are a part of that same close knit, progressive core of east coasters.
J.J. and A.J. are always on the move with highly successful and highly visible demos, jams and clinics etc., they work well with kids and community leaders. They have also been succesful in aiding other pro skaters and activists in finding sponsorship and funding, as well as being successful competetive skaters in their own right. They go by the name of the "Philly Connection" they are brash and out spoken and, to me are reminesent of the dog town boys, they are the most popular figures on the WFSA F-Forum.
Joe Humeres has been around for a few decades and has been a successful promoter of skate events and is now the go-to activist in New York State. He hosted a jam in NYC ,on the same day we were doing the Rengstorff Jam. He is planning future events with the local NY State freestylers as well as other area North Eastern skaters.
Terry Synnott has been a top 5 competitor for several years and is the go-to activists in the New England area. He frequently contdibutes to the global decision making process. One of the nicest people you would ever want to meet.
I'm not familiar with John Sargent's skating ability, but over the last year he has emerged as one of the most stable and level headed voices on the WFSA F-Forum, giving positive advice and observation on a variety of flatland freestyle issues, after all he is the Sarge.
Yoyo I'm sure you know, how about that guy! Third Place in the GFSA World Freestyle Championship, the legend lives on!

Bob, thanks for the kind words but without your scheduling of these events I wouldn't have found myself on a freestyle board again. for the past 28 years I have enjoyed skateboarding (freestyle, street, park, pool, ramp, and more recently slalom). My roots are planted in freestyle.

You younger guys on the east coast may not be familiar with Gary(H)Holl. He is an outstanding, solid re-emerging pro freestyler,a great all-around skater and a top ranked slalom racer. He has been the host of several of the No Cal fgflatland jams this year, he is very entertaining and works well with the kids. Recent photos of Gary at the Rengstorff Jam can be seen on www.noicing.com An article about the life and times of Gary Holl will appear in the revived WFSA F-Magazine in the near future. www.wfsafreestyle.org/f

You also might be interested in trying an outlook freestyle.
www.outlookskates.com
They also sell offset wheels, 54 mm, much like the Nicotines JJ mentioned.
The Outlook Flatland deck, which I ride, is is double-nosed with blunted ends. Hte dimensions are a little bigger than the Cap. mini: 7.4 x 29.25

Hey Gary H. This would be a great setup for you. The "JJ O'Donnell or Terry Synnott" pro model from Capital Skateboards. Both boards are 7.3" wide, 28.5" long, with a 12.25" wheel base and 6.125" nose and tail. Both the nose and tail are blunted for easier truck stand tricks. Also Nicotine wheels makes a 55mm freestyle wheel which is offset which covers the axle and nut perfectly.................JJ

I have a few Equipment questions:
I'm interested in wheels for freestyle...I have exchanged e-mails with YOYO regarding "Rolline" wheels...they sound nice but I'd like ot hear from people that have tried them or any other current wheel used for freestlye...I really like the older Powell Freestyle shape (offset, 55-57mm, flat outer edge).
I also really like the YOYO board and I'm interested in hearing about other freeestyle boards available...I do like a slight concave and boards that are near 7.5" wide, I'd like the board to be closer to 28 or 29 inches long with a squarer tail and nose that is shaped close to the YOYO. Again what decks are out there?

Well, I was wondering if the Carrascos were available for another Edisom Park Jam in December. I have an urge to do a Jam in San Diego during the Christmas break but do not have a location yet, any suggestions? Another idea is to have the jam at Venice Beach.
